Probs for the massive 3d, but the whole xy-only-demo mess is getting tiresome.

The video sure looked great and everything but the real deal always looks greater then video so I hope you make a new geforce friendly version soon!

ati-only strikes back!

slooooooow yet impressive visuals.

Once again a cocoon demo does not run fine on my pc (well, this time it neither freezes nor reboots, that's a good start).

The music is good (good job Willbe) and the visuals look nice (although watching a demo through a divx file sucks imo, it soils Sheena's and other graphists'work).

Therefore thumb down to guille for releasing once again something that does not run on my pc (or runs at 4 FPS on my Geforce FX / 1700xp Ahtlon).

Thumb up once you release a decent nvidia version, demos are meant to be executed, not seen through divx.

some parts look really really cool and the music is excellent. but i still wonder why it requires so much of the hardware. also is the video supposed to be fucking jerky?
rulez added on the 2004-01-25 15:28:53 by raymon raymon
hey! where is the blood? where is the humour? now trance/techno with mecha style? :D that's ok.. A lot of work inside but I think that stills something to be great as demo..
rulez added on the 2004-01-25 15:30:10 by mrdoob mrdoob
i dont know if im missing something but wouldn't it be better as a wild considered it contained mostly meshes? and i assume those light, shadow and "glowing" effects came from some hardware extensions so from my pov. it doesn't look like the coder had much to do. The textures of the meshes were great but it lacked some really nice 2D-images and also the music was really "trancy" which is far from my taste. It's just about a piggie from me.

ookay....
pro: cool graphics, cool music, cool design, cool flow
con: sloow (radeon 9600pro here), and those glows had really ugly banding artifacts that I assume aren't intended...

rulez overall, but ati only (grrrrrrrr), and a final version is definitely in order...

It sucks beyond limits! WORST STUFF EVER!
STATIC MESHES AND HORRIBLE SOUNDTRACK.
I don't care if it dosn't work on certain cards, are we suppose to IGNORE all great GUS demos just because you need a GUS card?
Someone tell me what place it got, if it's 1st i wont be surprised since all lamers voted it up because of the COOL AND HIP soundtrack and being DRUNK didnt help voting either, did it?
Almost good enough for a last place, why wasnt it disqualified?
Superscroller is better!!

Awesome! I've been waiting for something like this for years.... rocking soundtrack, fitting meshes (even if static... at least these ARE meshes and not the Nth torus-knots), nice lighting, and surprisingly short loading time (from Cocoon at least :)))

The atmosphere somehow reminded me of the game Tron2.0, which is good for me, because i loved it :)

Great demo!

well hmm nice prod and everything. too bad i can only watch the video.
but i NEVER understood why the hell people have to put their audio uncompressed to the video.
Now the video is irritatingly blocky which isn't really a surprise when the it's about 90kb/sec (while the audio is 170kb/sec).

Cocoon mentioned during the prize giving that there will probably be no final version, and definitely no fix for geforce users.

nice demo by some very nice guys.
love the colors, meshes and shadows, but imho scenes are just a bit too static :)
rulez added on the 2004-01-26 01:13:28 by pandur pandur
The shadows are a bit blocky, and it's a bit slow, but some scenes are really nice. I especially liked the dreamlike quality of the final scene (yes, the simple one with the cubes).
rulez added on the 2004-01-26 02:05:24 by sagacity sagacity
Pro: Extremely pretty, and I like the music somehow. Con: ATI only, Radeon9500+ only, buggy shadows, slow code. A final of this thing (preferrably running on GF3-class hardware if possible and 5-6MB smaller) would rock. :-)

ok music.

but...
I won't thumb up a demo (which happens to be ati only ) that makes my radeon 9800pro crawl, with shadows and lighting that look like shit...

Superb 3d models, textures, concept and atmosphere...Yep this seems to be the year of the "GLOW" effect, (first seen in 2001 by recyled/ByteRapers?)...the code is ok, needs some fixing? here on Win98SE+DX9+ATI Radeon 9800, the shadows appears *NOT* soo soften, and every 0.5 secs, the demo stops and go on. Althought LOVED that DOF applied to some scenes!!! Great!
rulez added on the 2004-01-26 11:24:42 by JaK JaK
It was hands down a carpetbombing of cool visuals, and they were lucky that the fuzziness of the beamer masked the ickyness of the shadows and glares. I'd love to see that fixed one day, but even still...good show!
rulez added on the 2004-01-26 11:38:26 by Shifter Shifter
Overall tremendous and well-polished. Use of pixel shaders
is now far less "demonstrative" but far more "effective".
E.g: the DOF is used with plain adequacy: not too much, but
gives this prod a "mood" i'm found of.

Kind of demo that makes me think the scene is
ever maturing to catch up with technological novelties.
And that's exactly what i expect the scene to do...

(along with whining and complaining, of course :) )

reptile: you're right. good job should not never be flamed. I like this demo. to be honest, it's very impressive despite the ugly 1-fps divx :p.

BUT could you explain me why it's ATI only when most demos are optimized for geforce?
you will say: it's the same problem for ATI users!

ok, but who told sceners to prefer geforce if they want demos not to be f**** up because a lot of demos are "perhaps working on ATI"?

only NV or only Geforce demos are not a good thing. The fact is that I own a geforce like most sceners so I even don't see it when a demo is "NV only"...

Noone exept for maybe shiva/kolor would prefer a geforce infront of a r9500+ card today, obviously as its the card that supports most, and is fastest. And also has better imagequality than Geforce crap...

Sorry to tell you this, but throw your geforce card out thro the window, not many demos are gonna work for you from next party EITHER!

And still, I DOUBT this is REALLY ATI only due to DX9 api wouldnt allow such shit... My guess is that Geforce FX doesnt support something or that it acctually works on Geforce FX but just runs shitassslow (but hey, what doesnt on geforce fx?;).

A great demo.
The music, the visual (code and scenes) and the rythm of the demo are just at a higher level.
As it was finished a week before the deadline, I'm just waiting the final version with some scenes going at higher framerate and with a smoother gradient in the glow effect ;)
For the ATI only label, it only means that is uses capabilities not already supported by current nvidia FX cards (I don't know what, I don't really see FP-Framebuffers), but next nv cards should be fully compatible. (Unlike the GUS story)

A very nice demo!
Everything was good, the music, the graphics, the 3d and overall design... maybe some of the overlay graphics were a bit too pixelated, but guess it was meant to be that way :) Engine also rocks, though the shading routine seems not to be perfect (or it's yet another style thingie) and it surely ain't the fastest one around.
Extra points for making it ATI only ;) Have seen too much of those "nVidia demos" around :P

the divx is too bad to really get a feel for the demo. But its obvious from the graphic quality and the cool tune that this needs a rules. Looking forwards to a fix so it runs silky smooth on my gf4mx, or (more likely ;) a better divx.

I really hope the final will run better on my system as the party version is stuttering heavily (Radeon 9700 Pro, P IV 2.533, 512MB RAMBUS PC1066). Still the prod looks good and the music fits in nicely.

it runs alright on quadro fx1000, only too slow in one or two parts (like the 'jesus scene')

All right, I killed all my background processes (keep hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL and 'End Task' until you're left with nothing but your shell a.k.a. Explorer) and that seemed to fix it. Runs smoothly throughout all scenes now. :)

Try picking thourgh the datafile a little, it's not like they're doing something even close to pre-rendered nonsense in here.

Hmm... Some nice bits here, but presentation wasn't much more than, "here's the first part, here's the second part, here's the third part, etc.." Lacked a sort of thread to hold the entire thing together.
+ Nice visuals
+ Good music

- Mainstream demo from Cocoon
- Slow and buggy code

This demo did not run on any of my nvidia cards when it was released.
oh, actually it ran at 1.5 fps on my FX and then froze afair. GF 6x00 series did NOT exist when this demo was released, thus it was ATI only.
Anyway it's not big news that cocoon demos usually don't run on shitloads of configs (even non outdated ones), check the previous ones and comments...
