a decent try on a generator intro.
good synth, nice texgen, nice objects and anims.

but there's still work to do. the textures are bad, there is no shading, there are no mipmaps, the cameramovements are jerky, so i guess i'll keep a sharp lookout for their releases later :)

oh and it drops back to windows with d3d debug. my desperate try to fetch a debuglog crashed it entirely :)

This intro is quite interesting, however, the textures are really really bad...
I noticed a few graphic bugs too...

.sound is nice, scenes are ok
but what sux is that there are "just" 3d-scenes without any realtion to the msx...no syncs, no change of scene on msx-change. it didnt realy touched me :/
but i liked the msx :)
extremly fucking bad production..

* Bad meshes
* Bad textures
* No shading at all
* One pattern-song

Wouldve been an ok 4k....

However, maybe this was a satir production of project genesis, if so iam sorry for my post..

Acctually i thought about project genesis all the time... And laughed... so thanks for the laugh... But if its meant to be serious: HAHAHAHAHA YOU SUCK!! =)

it was just an attempt to test our introengine... it was a fail on some points and a success in others, still gfx bug, and the textures weren't that good but we actually don't have any 2d gfx artist wich can do them for us. i hope the final of this intro grow =)

sorry to say this for a first prod, but.. yuck. :)

I just can't help it but I've grown bored stiff with most intros that's been released after fr-08. 3d flyby intros with an end scroller. ;) Honestly, this could be alot better with nice textures and a little bit of new ideas. Your next one will be great!
added on the 2003-11-30 22:19:43 by ekoli ekoli
Ok for a first prod...
music was cool, though the sounds where abit whimpy... and 3dflyby is boring... through in some eyecandy next time and it will be fine :)

not bad but not good ;)

added on the 2003-11-30 22:19:44 by velo velo
you already apologised for the textures, and this is a first prod so i guess i shouldn't be too harsh...
but: is it only my machine or this is butt slow at some places? (at the endscroller, and at one of the tunnels, where it is most noticeable.)
And never forget synchros. never. or if you do, do it in an elegant way... not like this...

omg, ugly textures, very unsolide engine and the music sounds like from scoopex 4k intro at breakpoint 2003

technically good, but sounds so familar with scoopex synth :D (how that?) all in all ok production, and handshakes to dylan :)

Hey! Nice work! I like idea of authors' names show :) Stylish enough...
I see, you like Farb-Rausch, eh? - "... is on the keys ..." etc ;) I like them too! Continue workin on it! And one more world: I've got sound-crack-like effect when objects moves fast especially in the elevator with fans...

how deep could a coder sink to release shit like this? even its ripped. compare the 4k from scoopex (BREAKPOINT) to this one, its the same (softsynth) but the quality of this produdction suck so much ass. unbelievable. so please dont rip next time. lamers in time!
very sucks down!!!

sorry, i forgot, but why could this lame production nr. 1 of dreamhack? there must be something wrong.. dreamhack sucks too from now on!
added on the 2003-11-30 22:42:17 by fishbone fishbone
@nuke the scoopex4k synth was a completely different (and actually was a sample generator) and lostcluster did it... but if you mean of the vst i did for scx you are right.. it's the same.. i did it so i reused it, i see no problems ;) thanks for the handshake.. handshake to you too.
@fishbone: actually i can release the source code and if peci/lostcluster do the same u'll not see a line equal... i don't see how it can be ripped.. the 4kb code was pure asm.. mine is pure c++, i don't see any scene wich looks the same and the object generation method it's COMPLETELY different.. but well if you want to thinks that, u are free.. just don't say bullshits you can't prove
added on the 2003-11-30 22:44:12 by _dylan_ _dylan_
I'll echo what everyone else said about the awful textures, but that aside I think this is a very promising debut.

The groundwork for the engine is in place, it just needs a bit more touching up. Hopefully they can use all the criticism here to guide them in the right direction for their next intro. I'll save my vote until then. :)
added on the 2003-11-30 22:45:47 by Wade Wade
debut???
the coder already released other productions in scene, so why is this a debut or first demo??? BLA
added on the 2003-11-30 22:49:13 by elkmoose elkmoose
Umm... Your first 64K outing. It's a little more ambitious than most other debut intros. Texture generator, soft-synth, many scenes, etc..

But it's missing so much: The textures -- yikes! The music is kinda repetitive. Modeling is dead simple and not very inspired. (And maybe it's just me, but those benches weren't attached to the ground...)

Ah well, it can only get better from this point. It's seems most of the tools are in place, now something good needs to be made with them.
this production hangs a lot on my machine

ah nuke.. i forgot to say that this synth was coded when i was in scx yes.. but it was NEVER used in a scx production..
blue knot used another synth (wich i coded too)

@fr-666: yes i coded other 3 scene productions.. but actually this is the debut of the group, of the introtool and of the softsynth

added on the 2003-11-30 23:13:41 by fishbone fishbone
fishbone.. i'm not using any excuses.. the textures aren't good. we don't have any 2d artist wich can make it and this is the best buzzie and trigger can do (actually they are coders), i'm simply saying that accuse us to rip something is a complete bullshit
added on the 2003-11-30 23:21:09 by _dylan_ _dylan_
pretty cool :) But would be much better with other textures, they where to0 dark and dull :( Music is pretty decent. The scrolling text just cut at the end here, didnt manage to read the last part and i realy hate the expression "at the keys" hehe. But not bad for first production :) Keep it up!

sucks ass on every front. excruciatingly simple and immature coding (which would be ok for a first prod actually), no visual features, no design at all, horrible colors, even worse texturing, lighting perhaps? and besides that, it's as stable as a stengun (made one of my machines reboot).

presto.
and nuke, you're just pathetic :)

ehm.. okay, the objgen isn't that bad, quice nice scenes actually, but it can be improved as well..

the textures are YUK! and they ruin the entire intro. no lighting either. and no sync at all.

sorry, but this really sucks.

and fix that softsynth, I heard some clipping.. (and you know, we have something called "stereo". ;) )
sucks added on the 2003-12-01 01:39:19 by fox fox
okayish object generator and a good number of scenes besides.

but then, low-res, low-detail textures (often without filtering and mipmapping), "debatable" choice of colors, uninspired camerawork, no sync to the music (that doesn't fit the intro at all), no lighting, numerous glitches in the coding department (notably bugged frustum culling with objects visibly plopping in, scroller plopping in and out, etc), and the overall lack of polish (z-fighting galore, visibly non-fitting stuck-together geometry, glitches in the transitions)...

not bad for a first prod (tho atleast some if not all of the people involved aren't first-timers), but there's just too many sucky things about this intro to give it a rulez.

so i'll give it an "ok" and wait for hopefully better and more polished further releases. (breakpoint maybe? :)

let's write some rows about this intro.
first of all, this is just a test of our introtool/engine. Im really sorry for the horrible textures, never send a coder to do a gfx-guys work. other then that i think the scenes are quite nice, wkk did a great job!

Yet another tool testrun :) we get lots of these lately, I'd say this may be the promising sign for new levels of intro standards withinin a year or two...
As a test of an introsystem, I think this is a success, although there would be lots of stuff to improve, but you surely know that :)

Hm okay, I don't think the problem is with the code (although I can't say it's too impressive, that doesn't really matter) but the fact that this intro just seems to copy some other demos/intros (and rather badly at that) and goes 'okay, this is enough'.

a little innovation never hurt anyone (except the native americans perhaps, but they got rescued by, ohhhh, let's say Moe).
added on the 2003-12-02 20:45:31 by sagacity sagacity
I think it is nice to see the native americans come out of their wigwams and do an intro without any lighting from time to time.. I expect more smoke signals in the final version.

Music was ok, bad textures, demo itself look-a-like late 90´s 3d-flyby.
But I dont give thumb down cause this is first intro.
added on the 2003-12-03 16:37:46 by blueflame blueflame
I can see why people like it and why people don't like it... As it is, it's a solid meh.
It would be better imho if 1.) The patterns used on the textures were of consistent and higher resolution (and higher grained), 2.) If they fit the objects they were texturing, and 3.) If the colors of the textures were more consistent (in a gray scene, having something bright brown or green is garish)
The sliding feature with the benches in the subway scene was interesting...
Other than that it was good.
added on the 2003-12-05 06:33:37 by crusader crusader
i saw the first scene, before it spectacularly crashed my pc with a load of corrupted shit on the screen, requiring a reboot. fuckings for that, at least.
before that happened, what i saw was some reasonably decent 3d and animation for a 64k, but really incredibly appalling textures and bad music. and then there's the renderer.
the weird thing here is that you got a quite hard part right (the 3d and animation works), yet forgot to do all the comparatively very easy bits (like hm, lighting?).
oh, and was the frustum culling code really so bugged as to require providing different exes with and without?

time to go away for a while and fix your rendering code, guys, then come back with something decent.

BoyC: maybe you think the introscene will evolve with this lame test intros.. Good for you, but when you wake up you will notice this is how intros has been done for ages now, and it hasnt evolved anything the last years.. Hell, not even FR-08 was 'new' technologywise... It just had a funky scroller, and a great softsynth (ok, that might be considered as 'new'.. realtime softsynth that is)..

Seriously, primitive generators arent fun!

I must thimb it up. Did anyone notice it was a software renderer? Just look at the floor jumping around, no hardware will give you that. And it's fairly fast as well! This already diserves a thumb up. Okay, synth is somewhat simplistic and the textures are nor really inspired (they rarely are in beginner intros), but else it was quite a good start.

I see that it imports Direct3DCreate9, however that's the only way to create a surface in DirectX 9 since DirectDraw has been eliminated and its functionality merged into Direct3D

Ok, i believe you that hardware could also start jumping around, but i'm still not 100% convinced. I unpacked the exe and i don't see any other pointers to what it would be. Neither by scanning for strings nor by walking dependencies. Not that DirectX would tell much since it all goes through offsets in pointer tables!

Still, i would not believe *anyone* would release a prod where texturing mode is set so stupidly as here if it was hardware rendered!

DirectX still installs ddraw.dll for compatibility, thus you still can use DirectDrawCreate.

Another "product"'s illegitimate child. And like most of his offsprings needs a soap and comb.
Very dynamic and well connected parts, but no texture filtering suprised me a lot (we have it for free on most of modern cards, don't grudge). Very promising for a test production, but i don't remember any more 64Ks from you guys. Are you making "paradise" or what?

Actually, now I find this to be a quite interesting production, to say the least (and, to some degree, always did)!.. Maybe it's not everything it could have been, but the architecture is quite tasteful and really feels good! And the music is not actually unfitting, if you think about it (although I indeed imagined something different when I first watched this intro - I apparently watched demos without sound for some reason at the time)...
