Well,...hum..perhaps...
Well ... no.
Awesome!
excellent
i really wanted to thumb it down, because although i feel that it was made with the strong intention of being funny, it is actually not funny anymore. and probably never was.
however, i have to admit that it was also made with a deep understanding how the shit with voting on a huge party works. it may be a bit too hard-headed, but it worked (again). because nobody could make a really, i mean, really good demo (cocoon tried, but, uh).
so, well, i don't know why it takes too long to utter, but i hope this is the very last space pigs demo in pc demo compo. i mean, in pc demo compo, not in the wild or shortfilm.
piggie for now and i want to take my time (back).

Pure greatness! :D
I laughed my ass off. AGAIN.
sq - how about asking a question about the intentions instead of mansplaining? Would be a good move forward.
What's a really good demo in your book?
Where has been yours in the compo?

Thumb for the demo and for sparking another Winnerdemo-like discussion :-)

@rp^frstl, i just didn't like that demo, i guess i shouldn't be sorry for that. Probably, i didn't get most of the jokes, but i think i understood the rest of them (not the inner ones), and even i didn't laugh, i have to admit that they were decent, professionally-made and well executed.
speaking of the demos i love (are you really interested in it?) i love most of cncd+flt and still demos, i used to love asd demos, and i love the latest holon's demos from the recent. i love tbl at most. i don't love senseless 3d flybys through the churches and factories, thus i don't love cocoon's.
the compo wasn't that strong as in the last year, so i can't say i loved something from there. maybe that's why sp04 came 1st. because it hasn't faced real competitor. i hope, at least.

I'm getting dejavu vibes from Breakpoint 2004 when Winnerdemo and Silkcut were their respective compo winners. My theory: TBL bribes German PC groups to make big joke demos.
But seriously (©™ pouet oneliner), I was entertained. Might not sit well with anyone related to the recent Boeing 737 MAX crash victims, though.

sq - of course you don't need to be sorry about not liking something. Tastes are different.
Talking about intentions: I'm absolutely sure that JCO etc probably have a shit-ton of fun making these. And that's that there mere cause for Kevin to exist. If they wanted to be sure about making the 1st at Revision Democompo, they'd probably aim for something entirely different.
Despite the adventures of Kevin lacking state-of-the-art effects, it brings something else and unique to the table. Which doesn't fall into the "let's make a demo in a week"-category.
There's a good amount of things to be learned from these. About timing, sound-design, choreography, not showing stuff and letting the brain fill in blanks.
And imho that deserves to win.

I don't remember when was the last time I laughed this hard.
Watched the earlier Spacepigs releases on my sofa, but this time I went to the party, and oh boy, is it a different experience! Had a nice spot in the second row, center. People left and right going crazy and laughing their asses off.
I literally cried from laughter (as in, soaked through two tissues) and I can still feel my sore throat that this demo gave me.

Endgeil.
I like the shot a with the flower a lot while the fighting was taken place. Like most Kevin demos they have a good flow and are very amusing. Not number 1 material though but I guess crowdplweasers are gonna crowdplease :) So contrats! Oh and by the way I loved the pigmasks when picking up the price. Adds to the mystery.
lamers gotta die ;)
the daft pigs
I thought it was funny.
Hillarious and memorable, but I rather see it in wild compo....it can easily win
I dunno..
Tons of hilarious slapstic ideas :-) ...stuff like this deserves to be in any pc demo compo and hopefully will be also in the future...we don't need less of it, we need more !
Does spacepigs need to be subdivided?
Piggie for Kevin.
Just didn't find it funny ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just didn't find it funny ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
fuckin crap. If I want to watch the unfunny things, I'll go to the page with the memes, keep this shit away from the demoscene.
PC demo is the king of all categories! The best effects mankind can produce, no restrictions, all techniques allowed. (read: "wild compo")
Thumb for Analisis XD
Entertaining and funny in the Moment on the big Screen.thumbs for that. No rewatch Value for me at all though.
F the Lamers.
lol
It's technically well done, with good pacing, clean voice overs, and audio... I may even have found small parts of it funny during the compo, but it is a bit like "How far can we string along this Kevin thing?"
We also didn't need scamp's "reply" to "comments on the internet" during prize giving if this (or the 64k entry) was the reason for it. :-/

I am sure it was funny while drunk at the party. Certainly stands out.
Maybe fun live then and there if your drunk, but i watched the stream sober and it didn't work for me. Very surprised to see a joke-prod get first place at Revision.
I don't want to give a thumbs down because i guess effort was put in to it and there is nothing wrong with it. It is what it is and does not try to be more. I am more surprised at the outcome of the compo.
So a piggie.

What Trauma Zero said.
It is good and hilarious.
During the compo I was quite diappointed that it turned out to be an invitation, but taken in isolation I actually think it's fine. The compo had way too many invitations back-to-back so that affected my feeling on this demo initially.
I'm glad that this entry won. It's genuinely entertaining, gets all the beats right, and has genuinely good production. It's not a "joke-prod", it's a comedy-prod.

I was sufficiently amused by it while mostly sober at the party.
What is a "joke prod" anyway? Just because this has comedy in it? What a weird and lowkey demeaning way to put that (now thinking about those "joke movies"...).
Gargaj's immediate criticism was that it was too obvious where this was headed, but I don't think that's even the main attraction of the demo. It's about the journey, not just reaching the destination. I would say though that Spacepigs needs to create some new IP finally too and not just milk the existing characters since they don't exactly have an immense amount of depth.
Other than that this was yet another step up and forwards in editing, camera work and sound design (and I guess it was technically more competent too). I hate that it's an invitation though.

how it possible???
It's not even funny
Shouldn't this be moved to wild compo where it belongs?
I don't drink and I thought it was funny during the party. It's an alternative kind of demo and I think the scene needs more alternative stuff, being a weird short like this or simply stuff without *untz untz*,
That said it's way overrated, it's a very effective kind of humor during the party, but not elsewhere, probably due to some psychological collective phenomena of spreading laughter.

Actually that's not fully accurate, although it was part of it. My main criticism was that while Hello Kevin was a fresh new exploration of social anxiety within the scene context, and Echo Chamber was a satire of how locked in we are as a scene - i.e. both prods presented an implicit well-intentioned criticism - this one seems to lack any of that and just plays into stale humour (Family Guy-level) and in the end turns out to be an invitation for a party which makes it little more than the things the previous installments tried to satirize, which is either ironic or cynical.
That's not to say it's not well-executed - it most certainly is - but at the same time it's aiming low and taking no risks, which in light of Hello Kevin is pretty disappointing.
Damn, Gargaj has a really good point. Please don't turn out like The Simpsons. =(
I also feel this could have been a better prod without the invitation attached to it. Dunno why, it just somehow feels like the mood was killed when the Kevin absurdity was replaced by the typical invitation facts (I'm not saying I don't like invitations!).
Still, the rest was 10/10, so:

I'm a little sad to see some of the criticism here, yet I'm going to add my pebble to it.
During the competition this prod made me laugh and I had a good time. That being said, I was quite surprised to see it rank first (although to be fair, there wasn't much competition this year).
I don't think this demo is bad in any way, but I don't see any depth in it. It seemed to have only one layer of reading, which is in stark contrast with the depth of the two previous episodes, and how thoughtful they felt.
I think the comment from Gargaj just above reflects a similar feeling.
That is fine though. Again, it was enjoyable, and it would be unfair to expect your very best each time. I'm just explaining why my vote is only a piggie.

Wait, so for some it's too much story and too little tunnels, for others it's not enough criticism of the first ones' mindset? I'm confused now. Here's my two reasons for thinking this deserved 1st.
a) It excelled at making me laugh.
b) The competition was good, but none other excelled at anything specifically.
I don't mind the invitation tacked on to the end. It's the first big party of the year, not being spammed with invites would actually be a cause of concern for me. And I'd always pick an entertaining invite over a boring one.

Stupid greatness!
Well done Kevin.
I just had painful time I have to introduce this demo as first place in the biggest party and explain all the meme context to newbies
I hope Kevin got his C64 back later, stupid airport security!
What Zavie said exactly.
I tried to bring myself to watch this twice but I could not bother. I maybe be a spoilsport and a very serious minded person, but this just did not work for me at all. It's great work, all in all, and it kind of ticks many of the boxes that a "fun" demo would do, but in all its self-referential glory it fails to deliver any sort of punch. The levels of meta in this, as also discussed in these comments, was just too much for me.
When watching this, I was kind of hoping that I were watching fractals with pounding techno music instead. And I don't really like fractals with pounding techno music all that much.

Johann ... ein Bier.
Kevin looks more like an Amiga user, why does he try to get a C64 through the security check?
Well done.
I totally love JCOs work - I was sitting in my DK vacation home and laughing my a.. off while I was watching this on screen.
Keep them coming, my vote will always be ensured! ;)

I laughed my ass off. This is the future of PC demo - animation movies.
can't piggie cause i laughed more than once. and isn't scenestuff supposed to make people happy? anyway it feels a bit misplaced in "pc compo"
Yes, JCOs work is impressive but still, for me personally, it's not a demo. Feels like it's in the wrong category and animation and demo categories really seemed to merge in the last years.
But it's nice to see something else winning than the latest FLT/CNCD/COCOON demo.

alter...
missed this during the compo as was all over the place after the Amiga demo compo. re-watched at home yesterday and it made me chuckle in a few places.
I am so utterly confused at people saying it's not a demo. surely a demo is an executable program which runs a none interactive and audio / visual experience? and that IS what this IS! whatever the "content" might be, it still fits that description.
anyways, while I didn't find it as funny as the original Kevin demo by a long shot, I cannot fault the obvious time and effort which has gone into this. sound design and music alone is worth a thumb! having to make that many small tunes in all those different styles is a huge ask on anyone.
big ups jco!

apologies, Eha needs props for the music, just double checked the credits.
Thumbs up for probably the best animation idea since walking in South Park :D
I think H0ffman just put it right. As long as it fits the compo rules and as long as speak about an entertaining executable here, it´s a demo.
One cannot argue about content of art - as well as one cannot argue about taste.
Even if we tried to - where do we want to pull the line then?
Joke entries in graphics compos disqualified?
Music that maybe is aiming to get the audience into good vibes by using ancient sample sets etc / meant in a jokingly way into a separate competition?
That would just make a thing (=demoscening / party entries) in which I invest lots of my sparetime much more complicated - but I love it, as it ISN´T that complicated. Life´s complicated enough. Scene is joy. Amen. (without break)

:-D Kevin goes from strength to strength (or tooth to tooth depending how you look at it ;D), the narrative points out some not so good layers of society and human behaviour in both subtle and blunt ways, and satirises them in a farcical way which for me works well and did makes me laugh, I can respect the amount of effort involved too. Congrats!
First place or not; I watched this for all its six minutes (plus a bit) and was bored out of my mind. It's not that the jokes are tasteless; I just don't find them funny, and the pacing doesn't work for me at all.
I absolutely love the sound in this! Running the demo a second time was more about re-listening than re-watching for me.
I laughed and smiled during the demo even though I was sober, so thanks for that as well. :) But the invitation part of it felt weird and mood-breaking.
That it actually won feels a bit... strange, which is probably unfair. But then the competition this year wasn't the best, and it is refreshingly different from the rest, so: Congrats! :)

Not all of the jokes work for me but I still find this pretty entertaining. How anyone can say this is not a demo is beyond me.
I'm a sucker for well executed comedy and this is hella well executed and some of the stuff is really funny! End is a bit dragging, but gets UC9 point across. Loved the Turbo Analisis diss, they'll get back at cha!
Weirdest complaint is people saying this needs to be in the wild or animation compo for some reason. It's not like story driven demos are anything new in the demoscene

Limp Ninja should have won tho
Haters gonna hate
mmmh no. This DEMOnstrates nothing but, humour, ..that's ok, and it's funny, but not in this category.
nah. first Kevin's show I watched in 2017 was moderate, but not my sense of humour. I respect some sense of continuation and consequence, but I'm little bit surprised that it has won seeing other demos. Probably as somebody else commented above, watching it on the big screen, drunk - made it more successful than watching at home.
Ohh...
Anything goes with demos as long as it's an executable that renders stuff in real-time, regardless of content. Still, my underbelly does have some sympathy for the viewpoint that prods like this seem more at home in an animation compo; it simply doesn't offer the kind of stuff I'm looking for in demos.
Nevertheless, the direction & storytelliing are superb and the jokes work very well for me - and I have a pretty difficult sense of humour. So a solid thumb up :)

@scamp - I feel somehow uncomfortable with this one being the peak of pc demoscene achievement in 2019. It just belongs to different category - wild/crazy/humorous/stand-up-comedy-demo etc.
Being shown there, no matters what hardware it runs on, makes things clear.

I loved it ! It was fun and creative. Other demos were also great but this one was different in a good way!
I believe that is the reason why people voted for it. I don't get the drama around it neither why some say it doesn't fit into the PC demo category. If a demo is only supposed to be a succession of ultra complex, high level nerdy graphic scenes , then many will be discouraged creating their first demo and at some point we will end up seeing only the same kind of thing...I don't think a demo should be only about showing off technical skills (we have other categories for that , like 4k for example).

Suggesting to learn "timing, sound-design, choreography, not showing stuff and letting the brain fill in blanks" from this one is like suggesting to learn reading from memes to me. =) But it's all present here indeed!
I saw it sober at home and it's nicely done, you can't take it from this one.
Having it winning whole demo compo makes me sad, and I guess it made some people here thumbing it down, but IMO it's not the authors fault, you guys did great indeed!

^ exactly this.
i felt like there were 1 or 2 better entries than this, but the buzz of the party was reflected in the results and to be fair, this SP demo was definitely far more approachable than the previous ones featuring Kevin. a job well done, even though i kinda wanted to see [INSERT-OTHER-DEMO'S-NAME] win.
and to all the naysayers: you make the content and you do the voting. up the ante next year (who am i to speak, though..) and beat the next SP demo at Revision2020 so this won't be an issue for you any more ;)
I'd be really interested in knowing the number of people complaining about it winning who didn't bother voting.
now this... this... this... is... a... demooooo!! kevin.
Funny, but there were surely better demos in the compo.
An extra thumb up for jco's response to those people who resist creativity:
Ja!
trash
1st place for this crap? Really? If this piece of shit gets 1st place at Revision then demoscene is dead for sure... And people here talk about humor in this demo? Where is it? I can't see it at all. All that I see is retardism and nothing more. I just can't believe it...
Well done, Kevin! :D
Ja
well it was the most memorable pc demo, so it's only fair..
What Zavie said, except with a weak thumb since it did make me laugh after all (more so than Spider Kim, but less so than Hello, Kevin and Echo Chamber). It's a good lesson for the PC demo producers, too: if you don't try harder, Spacepigs will come after you. And as much as I love Kevin and the rest, I really do hope you move on to create fresh new characters and regain the bite in your satire.
Felt a bit seen before.
Lasst doch mal den armen Kevin in Ruhe!
great storytelling & direction

Good understanding of the audience's situation and exploiting psychological flaws, but as the PC compo winner this is underwhelming. :I

Sir: lol :) perhaps, you can expose yourself to the fuXXings on the scrollers in the demos of the polish scene group called Lamers ;-) meeh.
Sorry I didn't intend to start a fight or insult anyone (what I said about understanding of crowd psychology is in fact a compliment), it's just that this demo has no effects (procedural art?) and tbh that's what I somewhat expect from a demo. (I admit my expectations may be an issue here, will give that some thought)

...
Annoying shit prod. Not funny, not interesting... not a demo. The rest of the entries were horrible too, but this wraps the compo up nicely. What a waste of time.
Wow ...For some reason I watched this demo again (I saw it first at Revision and instantly voted for it .).. And of course this time I read the comments here again. I can see so much negativity and almost hate for this demo. Reading some comments really feels weird and it is the first time I get such feeling on pouet.net.
I am sorry if my text is complicated. What I mean is I begin to understand why some people seem angry about this demo being the winner.
They might believe it has been rated by pigs or even worst "gamers" anyway people not able to appreciate "real demo art" , idiots unable to understand the complexity of making the effects they saw in the cocoon demo or the adapt's or whatever ..Sorry I forgot what I saw because I found it quite dull this year to be honest.
I don't agree with it.
Some other might think they abused the "Kevin thing" (Yeah it might not work anymore.)
Fuck ..You know what I am just tired...This demo was great ! It made me laugh and it was different than the others (in a good way)... Now I agree that the humor was more like family guy definitely not like the previous one. But is was definitely creative ! Maybe we're bored nerdy black and white stuff with drum n bass music

Kevin and I won't become friends, but I have to admit that I really felt entertained this time. Also, being usually a big fan of JCO's work and creative madness, I just can't resist and thumb up this piece of fun.
that was beautiful
Today I played this demo at class in the University. Enuff said.
Enjoyed the demo live during the compo very much, and in some way that it is what demo's are all about: to offer an enjoyable (party) experience.
A deserved winner in many ways in the demo compo, really liked the direction and story telling, and making such high quality real time comedy short movie is a great achievement in itself. And I seriously like how Kevin character has evolved throughout the years.
But, as effect lover I would really like to see what kind of "real" demo you guys can bump up with! So maybe some day Kevin will make a real demo :)

JAJAJAJA!!!!!
Feeling a bit disturbed now... :ð But I can not say that it was bad, thus upvoting :)

1st? duuuh...
Great comedic timing, camera angles and everything spot on. Laughed a lot during the compo. Thumbs
Not my cup of tea. Neither it was "Hello Kevin". I find this kind of prod really awful and annoying... Which I assume is precisely the intention of it, but what can I say, I don't like awful and annoying things. Piggy it is, sorry.
Props for pissing off people :)
When I go to Holland I like to see the Rijksmuseum,
When I go to Pouet, I put this in the lijksmuseum!

deserving winner of the invitation compo!
funny, story, but undermining the foundations
You can see a lot of work went in this, tough Kevin has been re-used again and it's not my cup of tea, but i do appreciate the amount work and skill to make such a production.
It has good story telling, direction and camera work, but as said earlier it's just not my cup of tea and that's a matter of personal taste.

because selfvoting is crappy. And arguing hours is boring too ;)
This is just a pouet voting, you're still the true official winner of the Revision PC Demo compo. And of course i will be very happy to see your next productions on PC or Amstrad!
the kaiser looked funnier in 2d :(
Should not have won, at least.

nagz: too bad, after blockbuster put in hundreds of hours worth of work and many sceners not getting that it was 3d we might have to show it off some more ;)
don't get me wrong, i see the 3d kaiser is meticulously made and obviously tons of work are put into making it.. it's just that his comedic value - at least for me - was stronger when looking like a cardboard cutout :)
the close up shots of the 3D kaiser are fucking terrifying and disturbing...
kinda like casting a-list celebrities to you movie to kill them off in the first 4 minutes in a freak accident :D
*your, even

That happened a lot in shitty 70s grind house movies cause when wanted a big name on the poster but couldn't afford the a-lister for more than one shooting day. In the worst case the scenes with the a-lister were shot independently and cut together to look like they interacted with the rest of the cast. Planet Terror homages this with Bruce Willis.
bleh, first when is 'they'. This was dumb movie facts with okkie.
I was 101% sober at the party and enjoyed this demo 1010% during the compo, one might ofc say that two days in a row party coding matches being extremely drunk, but still sober! This comeback of Kevin demo really made me laugh and contained super sophisticated scene humor, a well deserved winner in many ways
The more technical effect driven demos, like ours, could have competed with this one at Revision - but the lack of direction and design in most hi-tech demos sucked that out from the scope of possible end results.

but I guess next on the list is winning the amiga demo compo... it's just mod playroutine plus streaming triangle fill lists, right?
sort of ^_^
Fun production
It was funny and entertaining. But it needs a separate category, like the lamer demos had at Hungary in 1990s.
Because.
Well done, Kevin.
Noooooooooooooooo!
Funny
heh :)
Mostly harmless.
Lamers suck Kevin.
Incredible well made.
Perfectly sums up the party spirit :D
