Evolution of Vision meets Rupture. Video2Particles! How nice all mixed together! Thumb!
awesome awesome awesome graphics. the ebm track would have been just as awesome if... well... if you got a decent singer that can handle singing this low, or if you had transposed the track up a bit. but still, a breathtaking demo!
Awesome! Vocals fit perfectly.
now, this was way cool! there is, though, the usual issue :) though on the stream it is hard to really judge. I liked the music much better than usually, and such vocals are perfectly fine in this type of music, but, *these* vocals were just plain bad imho...
music was not to my taste (again :)), lots of stuff seen before in other ASD demos, but it was all put together in a really awesome way!
superb use of natal, image processing reminded me of "The evolution of vision", unfortunately this time the music is completely not my cup of tea :(. After watching this and fairlight intro, it just got to my head, that I slept through 2 years of what was developed on PC. Got to change this. Good luck on the compo. This time I have no favourite - both are great!
Gosh I love this thing! The music is completely awesome, the visuals totally rock... <3
The vocals: nice! Loved it! The music, the visuals : wow!
Amazing demo, awesome style. Really, really amazing demo. But those vocals… Argh. It totally killed the demo for me. But the direction, the visuals and the content were all top quality as usual.
Still in deep awe.

f....
I have no words!
It's more then magic!

vocals > guitar
that's what i expected, nothing more, nothing less! Beautiful work, indeed.
The downsides: Too long. And the music.
Upsides: everything else. The face part was the most breathtaking!

Ah! The thumb :)
Visuals are great, the music would be ok without the vocals, now it's just pure crap. The composer tries way too much, just like with Butterfly Effect.
And hey, Navis, I think you have proven your point to Smash now. Although it's pretty pointless since Smash has already gone to next level.

Great style makes great demos!
too much recycling, music is really bad, use melodye for your vocals :)
my highlight from the compo! also nice track (sans guitars this time :P ) simply mindblowing.
Ususal awsome ASD quality.
Insane degisn! I dream exactly this when I go jogging and run out of oxygen.
very nice
Doesn't run fluently here, time to get a new graphics card.
Very beautiful demo, really like the vocals this time :)
Very beautiful demo, really like the vocals this time :)
Good, of course, vocals would have been good if they had borrowed more from Kraftwerk, namely mechanical sound.
Absolutely stunning!!!
ASD, never running out of awesome ideas. Although I don’t like the singers voice that much.
there were some jawdropping visuals
Nice
The particle stuff was a bit killed by the stream; looking forward to see that in high quality. But Navis' modelling is worth a thumb alone =)

comment of the day :)))
whooow.
thumb for stunning visuals. love the "empty" beginning and the slow buildup. the music feels a bit disconnected from the visuals (i felt like i was watching the demo muted with another song playing in the background) and the song is not really my cup.
nice.
How do you have the TIME to do this? SICK! and GREAT!
i really like this - even the music was good for me (the primitive vocals and the hard bass reminded me of convenant).
great
good job.
Visually it strikes me as a mix between the music video for "A-ha - Take On Me" and "Tron". I like it, even though it drags on for a bit. The music is really what kills it though. It's not just the fact that they are plain bad (sorry), but even more that they are absolutely misplaced in the mix -- they feel as if they were plastered on top with a rubber band. Completely sticks it's head out in the mix, adding to the "slapped on"-feeling. Still, it's obviously a good demo, it just could have been way better with minimal effort in the music department.
thanks for this great demo, rulling and this is first demo played on my brand new pc, such a honour to see this piece of art; loving from music to colurs to morphs (producing unique visual experience) to compossition and narration and the idea behind is up to you to find
Fantastic demo - really love the visuals and direction! The music will again draw a lot of controversy, but I think it drove the demo forward nicely, so mission accomplished.
And, again, what's really impressive: this demo runs without the slightest hitch on "normal" contemporary hardware, even on the hghest resolution. Kudos for that.

Amazing graphics and idea, but I do not like the music, maybe I will change my mind later after seeing that more times.
wow.. great demo! and some parts reminded me Levi's Odyssey commercial.
The music is awful, the direction is lacking most of the time, turns into an object show, i really like the part displayed in the screenshot + the rhino walking through the walls synced with the music.
That's a provocation, that's probably not ASD!
great song which somehow reminds me of the French band Trisome 21, particularly their song "Last Song". Diffrent songs of course but they give me a similar feeling. And stunning visuals, great pacing, direction, etc. love it.
A huge achievement. Awesome smooth particles, great animation on the line-art stuff, best in class direction. So slick.
massive
I won't comment on the music, but i support Amusic for the guts of attempting at something like that. The visuals started wow but then lost grip on me. Anyway, compared to the average demo world this is worth a thumb.
Epic win.
awesome graphics style and ideas. ofc. the music fits that and the pace quite nicely.
Usual ASD prod: random ideas + tons of polish :)
I liked some of the scenes, especially the closeup on the running man and the boat sailing in front of that moon, sun, planet, whatever. The rest was rather boring, especially those transitions between vehicles again... But the really unbelivably terrible thing about this demo is the fucking singing. OMFG that was BAD. Please stop amature singing in demos.... really.... it sucks ass.
The code is excellent .... truly innovative effects and soundtrack of shit !!!!!.......... ASD thanks you for the visual
I love how each of your demos builds on the previous ones, both stylewise and content-wise, while adding its own brick to the edifice.
That's just awesome how ASD manages to reinvent their style every time with such high quality productions.
Solid ASD. Thumbs up.
I sense some "Evolution of vision" in there... :)
I sense some "Evolution of vision" in there... :)
Oh and to anwser the question posed (by the soundtrack): Yes.
Well, at least most of the time.
The first have was really awesome, then I got somewhat bored. Still a great demo!
Awesome visuals and direction.
The music itself I think is quite good, but the vocals were shockingly bad. It reminded me of Jan Terri and I couldn't stop laughing.
I used to love amusic's epic demo soundtracks, but this recent obsession with vocals is making his work sound amateur. Sorry to join the critics, but it's meant to be constructive.

Very nice.
stunning demo. nice visuals and great choice of music there ;)
@gloom: Haha, the first thing I thought of when it was playing for like 30-40 seconds was "a-ha" as well :)
Me like - including lyrics.
ok i totally forgot the butterfly effect after watching this one. This shit is awesome.
and for the music.
...
Hire a deathmetal grunter next time plz kthx ;)

Very creative as usual
I flipping love this!
Here's a protip for ASD: try some other musician for your next project. You have nailed the visual stuff, now you need to get someone as talented to provide the aural experience.
Fresh and enjoyable...
Some previous great efects from ASD demos neatly glued together, melting in very pleasure eyecandy. Vocals was ok, at least not that bad as was in butterfly effect.
After all another enjoyable demo from ASD. (and not kitschy)

I for one think the soundtrack is solid. Yes the vocals could/should be better but to me, in terms of style, they fit the genre like a glove!
great! i love the song
cvFindContours()
Wow, I would have never figured out that little clip Navis showed us in the Euskal could turn into this. Well done!
Ah, singing gets less annoying if you watch the demo five times in a row. :)
Wow! Fairlightish particle and evolution of vision together mixed in a very nice way. Nice change to the music style too with ebm kind of tune.
ASD RULEZ!
I watched this demo and jizzed in my pants
What everyone said.
I love the line effect! The running felines are also stunning <3
Solid prod, music is not my cup of taste ( EBM is in general not my fav. ) Nice particles, but now its really enough of particle demos please !
Also i think its time to take care about the recycling overkill, the eagle was in i dont know how much prods ... also the bridge and roomscene was known before ... The crash of rhino into the walls was a quick "same as rupture" effect ...
For sure a thumb up, for the work and enthusiasm to invest time in demoscene

Some of the most compelling visuals i have seen in a demo - big props for that and the mind boggeling effort! - however, while i can appreciate the poetry of the vocals (esp the climax) they are really not executed well.
The hall audio is awful, but what I heard of the track, I liked it. I love the vocals on this one, nice 80's industrial feel, reminds me of front 242 etc. etc...
Visuals 'foors rock too here, the screenshot part especially quite big applause. Only problem I have here is that this again feels a bit rehahshed, like a mix of everything ASD has been making since Rupture.
But overall a very good prod again.

visual effects are great, some parts make this to a "one of best demos ever", but the vocals were imho horrible².
Astonishingly Awesome :)
its ok. nothing more - nothing less.
for sure not a killer.
and hate me but:
im sick of asd´s object and effect recycling.
sure, you arrange it in another way and stuff and yaddayadda. but i come to point where im close to say: asd? yeah, when you know 1 demo - you know all of them.
and the music sucked.
now start bitchslapping me...and please dont forget the "if you dont like it do it better" phrases.

different.. while i disliked the beginning, over the run it was quite very nice to watch, liked the tune.
Amazing. Music isn't my taste but it fitted well.
The GFX was absolutely stunning!

this one feels so 2011.
very good job, Navis et. al. ! <3

Iam getting sick a bit about all those "Piggy" voters, since i think .. YES we all complain a bit, yes there is some recyling of models and effects ...
BUT HEY didnt you saw on which niveau those things are done ? If complain, because there are such masterpieces from ASD, and so good effects and tons of "postprocessings" in there ! But what is really annoying, that you always get messured on your best prod ever done, the flawless production you did maybe once in life ...
I think before voting such a demo as piggy you should really do such a piece yourself, and compare it to other productions you votes as "rocks" before ..
There are points you might not like, but look the overall quality ... and be honest and fair .. its way above average release standarts !
On creators side i would ask myself why people are getting so strict with your prods ... MAYBE its because of the "strict" critics you post / talk and give to them ?

Awesome visuals, and atmosphere-wise it also has some great moments. I'm actually a big EBM-fan but this paricular song didn't really do much for me
w.o.r.d my friend
Wasn't into the music so much (mainly the vox), but the visuals rocked HARD. Well done!
Hey Navis, I do not think that _H2o_ had your person in mind when he wrote that..
in other news: Thank you for this very awesome and mesmerizing demo. really c00l !

h2o: I don't think artists take any notice of criticism that isn't constructive. Purely negative comments are often people expressing their personal taste, and there's very little an artist can do about that. If everyone shared the same taste there would be no reason for art.
This Demo is so fucking awesome !!!
No other Group fitting Code,Style,Music and Atmosphere together like ASD !
This is the best Demo so far i have seen... maybe not technically but who cares !?
I love it ! And the Song is also absolut Great !

ASD have yet again "spin" the demoscene decks!!!
Great tune along with Tron meets Chariots of Fire but with the special ASD touch becomes magical.
I am really curious to learn more about the particles running man... and to confirm, was it just me or did I really saw a fish at some point?

White screen here when the loaderbar is 1/4 complete. ATI driver 11.7, HD5850, vista 64bit (no aero!), E6750 CPU
masterpiece! lovely, i regret to have missed this on a big screen.
oh, did you try to add some sound effects when the rhino crosses the walls and stuff like that to make the visuals and the music connect better (or perhaps you tried and it didn't really work that well?)
anyway, very cool demo! could you explain quickly about how you compute the silhouette lines?

number one
good
I'm not ashamed to say that I cream over ASD demos and this is no exception. Loved it.
love it
Nice prod ! Awesome gfx and good music !
I just found the rhino model a bit weird.. But that's probably just me !

nice visuals, dont like the vocals...
Drooling visuals. I only wish the ASD demos wouldn't remind me of earlier ASD demos so much.
The visuals are stunning, the execution is again exemplary. I don't mind putting used things together in a new way (and in think you guys are one of the few who manage to create a new look and unique look for your works almost every time), so i really enjoyed the ride and hope that there will be more of your productions in the future. With the rest, i am afraid i have to agree with gloom and Wade. I have the feeling that when you remove all the effects from the vocals, you get a singer that is none and i personally find that a bad start for using vocals. Please amusic, return to your earlier versatility. I was and i still am amazed by your earlier soundtracks and long for another one like that for some time now :)
And, before i forget. Cool fullscreen gfx in the next demo pls, i am missing that a lot too, lately.

stunning as always. (can i haz autothumbup script for asd?)
If it had better soundtrack and was two minutes shorter it might be the best demo in a long time. Actually, that sentiment goes for most ASD productions. They drag on too long and the music is tasteless. Other than that, great job :)
O_o--b
FooLman got the point!
Also: running dog in front of the moon. Really? ;)
this willl do
Lovely visuals and lovely music. I couldn't imagine this with any other kind of music (or any other kind of vocals for the music, for that matter). I think this will eventually replace Dreamchild as my favourite ASD demo but time will tell. It also made me want to rewatch Chariots of Fire, which is never a bad thing.
(and it's also now the best demoscene production featuring a running rhino. This one will be hard to beat...)
(and it's also now the best demoscene production featuring a running rhino. This one will be hard to beat...)
Solid demo!
There are many familiar allegories. Some ideas are definitely inspired by fairlights latest demo. And of course, Yello, Kraftwerk, and Tron come to mind.

__excellent__ visuals. music is nice but its mixdown isnt. also the vocals remind me of underworld - cowgirl :P
That's very original ! What a nice mix of effects you got there !
Those awkward, badly mixed vocals are not getting better with repeat viewings. Believe me, I've tried. :P
Way more solid than ASD's previous asm entries. Really beautiful visuals in places, but... It was almost totally ruined on the big screen by the rather poorly mastered soundtrack. Everything just went all porridgly, and the vocals sounded horrendous. After viewing it again with a non-PA sound system (e.g. my tv's speakers) the soundtrack wasn't all that bad, but the vocals were still somewhat cringeworthy.
Still, this is by far my favorite ASD Assembly demo ever.

Namevote winner, nothing mindblowing
Great stuff! Looks the same breath. Just spin and nothing more. Very solid.
nice, please stop stop stop vocals.
what bermudatatooine said, but with a well deserved thumb up!

h2o: when i critisize i hope that the citisized creator gets another perspective...
ASD would even bring highlevel creations in a fastdemo compo.
And iam for sure a big fan of them, but that doesnt meant that i have to stick myself into someones butt.
I would even go to Mercedes-Benz telling them that i hate their A-Class Modell...even when i know that that Car is still far better than any others. But i know that Mercedes Benz aswell as ASD can do better.
When entering a competition - you want to entertain the crowd. The ones who cant code too...so the "dont complain - do it better" is such an uberelite thing which is totally outdated.
When we come to that point - then are only the members of a handfull groups allowed to express their meanings.
critics are mostly subjective but always a good way to improve.
I´d hate beeing surrounded by Yes-Sayers, Buttcrawlers and namevoters.

Great directing, however.
...but ofcourse i do namevoting...
Very cool!
Just re-watched it, just to hear the soundtrack again. I must say the vocals are by far my favorite part of it, still digging that industrial feel. Otherwise the track isn't that amazing. Especially the drums sound really cheap. But overall it's still enjoyable, and I'm always happy to hear something new in a demo, or at least something that doesn't get heard so often.
Amazing. Just wish the soundtrack had a female singer :p
Wouldn't say I enjoyed the music, but other than that the kind of high quality we were expecting. And glad that you paid homage to a long-term Finnish comedian at the end of the lyrics: "I am Spede, I am Spede".
homosexual.
wow, fucking awesome! if i see on assembly all i say... wow love it, rightly the winner
Cool stuff. LOVE the visuals, and even if the music isn't the what I would normally listen to, I see that it fits well. Thanks for doing keep making these creative demos.
aMUSIC keep doing what you enjoy, even if some of us BASS-heads complains once in a while. Variation is nice. :)

Interesting visals but too much of the same, gets boring quite fast. The music however is fantastic, I totally adore the soundtrack, very cool! More of that please, aMUSIC! =)

Would totally destroy it IMHO! :)

That's complete and utter nonsense. While there sure is a lot of work in this demo I still can bring myself to thumbing it up because it kinda bored me after a while and I'm sure I won't watch it often. That however doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to thumb up much "simpler" demos, after all it's a matter of taste what one likes or not!
aMusic: You say you have nothing to prove, but hey, here you are all defensive about what you do. So, I guess you do care.
And about your music. If you don't know how to make something, maybe you should keep on training (in private) until you are good at. You know, if you are bad at singing or making EBM, it's not like everyone needs to hear your first efforts. Although, after reading your comment it seems that you almost made the music jokingly. If that's what you aimed at, then you did succeed, because I laughed my ass off at the tune. Don't know how well that suits the ASD idea of good demo..

awfull music bla bla bla and all that jazz.
Superdupper demo anyways, love the rhino smashing thru the walls :)

Awesome despite the drunken out of tune vocals :)
Solid production, congrats !
And I dig the music *with* the vocals.
My chance to include an ASD tune in next Demovibes.
Speaking about the demo, I did expect to see a Nike logo at some point.

Who are you and what have you done to ASD?
Awesome graphics, music sucks.
Oh well...here goes one more year of controversial comments about the music. Although I heard the public outcry about the heavy guitars and stayed out this year, people still found something else to bitch about. Makes me wonder what do people want in the end, maybe a Justin Timberlake tune? :D
Nevertheless I really liked the demo and the bold move to do something different which is ofcourse a risk to take.

Awesome! And this time i even love the music!
Genius! So original in every aspect.
ASD, well done and the real winner demo. Very good graphics, animations, effects ... The music is ok, but fits not perfectly for my taste. Anyway, great work and my favorit demo this year, till now :)
forget the gulez button :)
Very penetrating! This made my day. Glad to see some new effects and kudos for the kewl soundtrack, eventhough I like the othe styles too :))
Leviathan: So it was a calculated "bold" move to use a bad song with bad singing and bad lyrics? Interesting! First aMusic tells us he made the track as a joke and now you tell that you actually wanted bad music as soundtrack. Kudos for being so brave!
Oh and please, do use Justin Timberlake if you can get hold of him because he actually does know how to sing.

Music is subjective.
trivialfursuit : Mate chill out, when in a group you respect decisions. Not everyone likes metal and I had to respect that too and try different ventures. BTW this aint X-factor, it's the demoscene in case you forgot. It's supposed to be somewhat underground and gives you the freedom to express yourself exactly how you want without having marketing knocking on your door.
Hey aMusic and Leviathan. Just try it harder next time. And you will be rich.
Oh yeah...about next time....*takes the 8 string off the case* ;)
I haven't seen such a whining performance for a long time. People that don't like the music I guess are more then welcome to address it but comments with irony and non constructive criticism are lame...
Don't you have somewhere else to go?

Well, it turns out we need more marketing managers and sales executives in the scene. Oh boy...
technically this is brilliant but regarding design and effects it really lacks innovation.
Brilliant!
I liked the way how you rendered the objects, some kind of "Light painting" for me.
Nice mix with the particles but imo you've made best use of it in "the butterfly effect" :)
Very eye candy anyway.

Loved it!!!
that's one of the most EBM-ish demos I've seen in a while. Pure drive!
Great demo, but can U please give us version without vocals? ;)
What a trip, lot of cool stuff in here.Especially liked the wallbreaks and the city/ocean scenery
Well, the thing is that I really think your demo is visually the most striking thing I've seen in a long, long time. And I've been watching demos since the early days on Amiga. Considering this it was a really disappointing that the music was not nearly as good. It also surprises me that people who are able to make such a strong effort visually basically everytime they make a product fail to put as much though into the music. Anyway, sorry for being so direct and probably harsh, too. I overreacted. And I really appreciate your work, it's really great.
Of course it rules. Good job, guys!
My first reaction: holy shit that was awesome.
The audio could lose the vocals though :S ... vocals were just not done very well imo.

I liked the music, the visuals are as full of machismo as ASD demos usually are. Some of it works.
Hope I will see cool commercial video clips made by ASD someday. Or maybe they already exist?
Things in demomusic that cause controversial discussions:
1) Heavy metal guitars

it's always a question of taste. visuals are okish, not more not less. so is the music. the vocals are digging the hole and the voice is kicking the demo in. one of the worst asd-demos ever. unfortunately the great particle-effects can't save it. it just sucks.
Wow!
But no ants! :P
But no ants! :P
Shoot, I forgot to thumb up. :(
i am no fan of the music either, but it fits somehow!
the effect is untoppable! i am pretty sure you knew you had the winner this year ;)
the lyrics suck btw in what they say, just break loose! its hard but has to be done, so go on!
OH, FUCK! I just ♥ em visualz! ;)

wtf!
Seeing some old elements/movements, but so nicely combined with awesome new elements and effects - result is great!
The standard ASD fare this time (where standard means your jaw goes slack and you just think "holy fuck" for 5 minutes of your life). I'll just go watch this another 10 times or so...
as a whole felt way too long, i do appreciate the covenant style ebm track but as many have pointed out the vocals do suck. couple of minutes shorter and with better vocals this would've been really good.
nyanrhino!
felt a bit too repetitive but definitely a great show. Some really enjoyable scenes.
Not the next Lifeforce. Not even the next Happiness. Nice particle effects, sure, but the whole thing just reeks of recycling, and the almost-neon-on-black color scheme is jarring. Congratulations on the win, but unlike most newer ASD prods, I don't feel like re-watching this one.
More boring than what I'd expect from ASD... but not bad at all. Oh, and I don't have a problem with the music :-)
Line rendering style (glitches etc.) rules big time. Let's see if I can persuade certain coders to steal this style ;)
aMusic: Any chances of getting stems of this soundtrack for remixing? Drop me a mail or sth..

for the rendering.
Amusic: say yes to el-bee please :)
I fucking love the line rendering effect. Just might be your second best demo IMO ;)
EBM, in my demos! Track should be namedYus! Visual overload, gonna take a while to work out what I saw. xD
The visuals were ace, and the direction was mostly fine (maybe too hectic sometimes), but the vocals were sitting in a strange midway of robotic and natural. As far as I know EBM lyrics aren't usually autotuned that much, so they didn't fit in too well. Maybe some distortion/bitcrusher would have brought the needed grit to make the vocals less comical.
I also enjoyed the sailing ship.

Makes me wonder what do people want in the end, maybe a Justin Timberlake tune? :D
Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Timberlake's last album was pretty awesome actually, so yeah, a Timberlake track in a demo would pretty much rule.
Visuals are nice, music not so much, but overall this didn't grab me at all.
We also need a live act with this song :D It fits the demo perfectly.
Just listened to the tune alone. I like it personally (and I like this style, although I don't know what ebm is :)
Maybe the mix could do with a bit of work, the drums sounded like they needed a bit of sharpening up at the low end, but then i'm listening on iPod headphones so maybe the problem is there. The vocals work for me. Lyrics.. dunno, but honestly who listens to a track like this for deep lyrics? :D

i can see the efforts made in this demo and i admire the ASD dudes and their past works.. but this demo didn't give it away for me at all. Not visually, nor the concept, nor by the soundtrack,

With a bit of work I think this soundtrack could be really great! The main problem for me with it was the calmest part of the vocals. They where... horrible... Kinda sounds like a robot that has learned english from a german teacher.
The parts with more layers of vocals works better and I actually liked it a bit there :) So it's not all bad this tune. So I am hoping for a final version :) Anyway. a HUGE step up from butterfly effect when it comes to using vocals. So keep up the work aMusic!
When it comes to the rest of the demo! Superb stuff. Stuff do look great!

feels like rupture 3.0.

Hell yes!
The rendering looks nice, the demo itself feels like a object and color scheme recycling show to me. Seeing it the first time, I quitted when I saw the rhino break through the walls. For me it's just like a calm river, floating on, without a zenith. Sadly boring.
The only thing that saves it for me, was the music. I really liked that one!
And I second docD:
now start bitchslapping me...and please dont forget the "if you dont like it do it better" phrases.

Really liked it. The soundtrack is ok, but for once I actually have to join the ones complaining about the mastering - I think the vocals drowned in the rest, and overall the mix was kind of muddled.
I would also label this "futurepop" rather than EBM, as it has more in common with Covenant and VNV Nation than with DAF or Wumpscut.
About the singing: It's not good, but few futurepop acts have good singers, so that's nothing out of the ordinary. :-P The two I already mentioned are the exceptions I can think of.

fucking awesome rendering
music - to be more precise - the vocals surprised me, but i like industrial. and it's not just another particle demo, thums up for that.
Cool demo even if i don't like so much the music. Will not be my favourite ASD demo even if there are lot of interestings effects ! Good work :)
It looks like a lot of recycling of older ASD demos (meshes...), though the "lightning-contour" rendering effect is just awesome.
I would give a thumb but the music... I just didn't like it so much that it was a bit difficult to watch the demo to the end.
So it's a piggy.

nice effects but don't like vocal stuffs in the soundtrack ..
Absolutely enjoyable, and very much so. Some of the best (if not the best) visuals I've seen this year. They do something to me when I watch them.
Also, some more tech info would be awesome. If you could do a smash-style write-up on this demo I'd be grateful.
Enjoyed it!
Awesome transitions and feel to the whole thing. The music (mastering) did not fit in the hall though, sounds better here at home. And nice to hear some future-pop for a change although I really like your typical guitar-tracks as well.

I am huge fan of all previous ASD prods and love them all but this time there is something I dont like. Some effects are nice and really kick ass (like the one on the screenshot) but most others have already been seen somewhere else (like in rupture and also another particle demo released a few months ago (dont remember the name)). I cannot ignore all the efforts that have been done for this demo but its definitly not my cup of tea.
Hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha. Good stuff, Navis, good stuff! Oh man, you're funny.

I'm sorry, but I actually prefer this track to the original. Although I think I laughed more at the original vocals.
Navis: No, but your comments and attitude towards making demos (not to mention how you perceive your group and yourself) makes lot of people cringe. No matter, it's all very amusing :)
Maybe some of it is a bit arrogant? Maybe sometimes it sounds like you think you know better and are in the position to say how to make things the right way? Maybe you're competitive to the point of being ridiculous? Maybe you try too much (ie. like everytime you try to include meaning in your demos, or how about the lyrics). Could be these reasons or some others. Maybe some self reflecting would not hurt?
Navis : I don't see the problem. Personnally your comments often makes me want to give another chance to those ASD demos I didn't like. Remember Anoxia ? Reading your comments made me watch it a second time to take the time to understand it... I still dont like it but it's not for artistic nor technical reasons ;)
I don't like Spin for personal reasons, but your explanations about the making of it almost make me want to give a thumb up...
So don't mind about the "cringe". Talking about your demo is IMVHO the best way to help people understand your work.

i dont get the naysayer comments and thumbdowns here. the visuals are brilliant and fitting the soundtrack very well.
and just for some constructive feedback on the sound side:
you might want to check the song frequency spectrum next time. even foobars simple spectrometer shows you how much volume there is in the lower frequencies.
which should explain why it sounded so awfully with those bigass speakers at the party, so that you could hardly hear anything else except beat and bass.
to conclude:
this is a great production. period

Navis: The things you just said support my words before. Also, some of your lengthy comments (here, in Pouet) about other people's demos are definitely fun to read.
gave me goosebumps.. i love it..

this looks like trolling every other demogroup out there
maybe im too young to appreciate this piece of shit. personally im not a big fan of EBM and dont have any connection to it like others do. but i usually think aMUSIC's other pieces are better, but its cool that that you experiment with singing and such for yourself. thats a big step into maybe making something better, maybe, i dont know. also the combination of running people and animals was not my cup of tea, it didnt fit the tune or something. for me this is the worst demo from you, when i usually adore and think that the other work you do is interessting and all good stuff. i expected a great demo, but it was not, but i don't mind about that since it was an experiment. its ok. i watched it with an subjective mind and not as in a coders view, i sometimes find it hard to judge by both together, so i rule this out now. I dont know how much work Navis put into this either, two weeks(?), but my critisism still stands. im not being cruel, just trying to be honest with my judging. im looking forward too see your next demo.
Wow, this rules. Some fresh stuff... the "EBM´ish" soundtrack imo fits like butt onto bucket, tho i think it didn´t deliver the force it was supposed to do. Anyway, it´s an approach which i really appreciate. For the soundtrack aspect alone... i do know many commercial "EBM´ish" projects that are by far worse, so it can´t be that bad. Really cool demo. But wtf do I know... *jiggle*
im not a big fan of ebm but this song was really really .... i dont want to be offensive ..
Not the best you have done, but I love the details you always add to your demos, like the smooth transitions (thats my favorite ASD thing).
The effects and visuals are superb, but I didn't get that exiting feeling I usually get. Feels like something is missing from the storyline.
Soundtrack was ok, but the vocals didn't work for me.
All in all, you've done it again, just wanted to add some opinions so the next one get even better :)

Loved the demo and especially how the short segment of the running mans face managed to set the atmosphere for the rest of the demo.
I enjoyed the demo. The graphics are interesting but definitely good and the soundtrack does occasionally remind me of Infected Mushroom.
Amazing flow! (as usual with asd prods)
About the music... well, it's a question of taste, but ebm is ok for me.

Hmm how about lyrics-to-visuals connection:

awesome visuals and horrible music.
I'd love to see this demo realtime in full framerate, but unfortunately most of it (except the amazing scene from the screenshot) runs much under 20fps here. But I can see it is absolutely wonderful.
BTW, the scene with running rhino is perfectly in sync with music, but (except the one case) music lacks some *THUMP* when the rhino is actually crashing through the walls!
And guess what? Cool vocals :)

muna by hirmu does have lyrics-to-visuals connection!
then of course a few pwp demos, like human resistance, future 1999, robotic warrior and robotic liberation.
i vaguely recall that there's been some others too, just can't remember them exactly right now...

Awesome work as most of the times! ;)
The particles are great and run fast enough on my machine! The glue that sticks everything together is awesome, whatever it is!
Must read the flame when properly awake.
This could work really well as a commercial for Adidas or some other sports equipment brand.

I could cry. That was amazing.
Very good direction and atmosphere. Pretty powerful animals there, rocking the sub-conscious. Thank you!
Visuals were very nice even with some strange selection of objects. Music was definitely a step in to the right direction apart from vocals which were absolutely hideous.
I can't help it but I've been watching it over and over, not in the last place because of the music, it's got that synthy untz-untz.
navis, amusic & co: THANK you.

(and navis be a doll and do some kind of tech making of post somewhere, it'd be interesting)
Seems like ASD would even be better at arranging mixing-compos...
About the demo, I found myself to be disappointed for seeing again the somethings-escaping-to-somewhere-routine. Visually of course this is quite some advanced shit, and the music had it's moments. Half of the parts seemed little too uneventful for such fast paced track. And I cannot even remember single new idea right now from it :( Except the track has been playing in my head, after only two viewings, strange :) Pity tho about those parts in the music which I do not wish to remember...

I especially loved the running particle video man.
Visuals are very nice. Music sucks. Good work.
I didn't like it much during the compo, but on closer acquaintance (also, closer to the screen) I do.
Thus I didn't want to comment until I rewatched it properly. I often find "glitchy" stuff messy and annoying, but this one is nice...right amount of it I guess. I still like your "butterfly effect" more, but that's just my taste.. ;)
About the music discussion, I find no problem with it and the music and vocals are good I think. In fact, a lot of synth pop / EBM acts have much worse vocals than this.

aye! music waaay better than butterfly effect.
*LOL* Some kind of... I dunno... futurepop soundtrack ;D. Oh, well... Very nice-looking visuals as usual, nice effects but I felt that the pacing was dragging. The demo felt too long and some scenes could certainly have been cut down or cut entirely.
Navis: Great technical write-up. Thanks a lot :).

Besides for the vocals being a bit goofy (like being in a way too low register for that vocalist to handle) I can't see anything profoundly wrong with them. The overall mixing impression is at least better than for "Butterfly..." but that might be because the composition for that prod is very clean which makes every mixing mistake very easy to spot. It's ok as far as I'm concerned. Although, I reckon you could probably increase the volume of the vocals and cut some mid to improve things. Not that I would know anything about that, but still ;D.
the Planet's sickness. Powerfully, effectively demonstrated.
It reflects the modern era accurately. Twentyfourseven slavewheel + ants running blindly

determined to get it, but it should be absent deadlines and with nullstress, such as is
with the scene very much.

Wow!! How do you do that? And when?
Amazing combination of different rendering effects. Actually, I was wondering, why you never applied the "evolution of vision" effects as a linking thread for a bigger production.
Spin is quite amazing, of course. I love the beginning and the animals running over bridges and through walls. My favorite scene, however, is the shape of the man running in the circle. It's almost like redefining Leonardo for the new age of Accelerando. It's especially powerful, because its simple and calm design nicely contrasts the generally hectic overall atmosphere of Spin.
Off topic: One good thing about this particle madness is that it refuses to be video captured. You actually need to run demos again, instead of watching youtube.

I like this type of music, and the visuals set it off perfectly. Really great exploitation of that new effect.

Yes! The scene is known to have no deadlines or stress involvement at all! ^_^
I had mixed feelings about this one. The music is definitely not my cup of tea, but the visuals are, as always, spectacular. One is habituated to have in ASD demos more...variety, magical transitions, and not too much exploitation of the same effect. Anyway, you guys absolutely own the demoscene. 4 1st prizes in Assembly? Awesome, just awesome. Congratulations.
actually the first ASD demo with good music (for me). and i'm no ebm fanboy. it's probably also the visuals, because they fit so well together, it's incredible :)
while i really like the post effects, they feel a tad too much, but only a tad. dunno how to explain that though.
what i dislike is the re-use of some objects, some of them seem to drag on in many of your releases (the eagle? the bridge?) so this one feels a bit recycled.
however, good work! i hope to see more demos that make use of the kinect, there's definitely more potential.
my personal #1 from asm! great work.
i'm saluting to: navis, amusic, ch3 and amoivikos!

It's ok, but little bit much recycling of older demos and too long. Anyway good.

i usually dislike music in ASD demos, but this one kickass
strange demo, but awesome anyways, even if it doesn't make the "iconoclast" heart attack when i saw it
great work as usual :)

Meh. Started out promising with the great looking animations, coherent visuals and fitting cheesy music. And then I got terminally bored, as things turned into a full blown wannabe FLTCNCD fest, with recycling and fugly colors to boot. Guess it's too easy to crowd-whore votes at ASM. That said, was glad to see a comeback from rhino's ass :)
Everything's Genius but the music.
This prod is just horrible. I was impressed by the first few seconds but the same effects drag on too long and the promising soundtrack quickly turns out to be a bad joke. Whatever they're trying to convey, it's not coming through. It does have an aura of trying too hard though with all the recycling and FLT-like ideas.
Navis, every comment of yours reeks of arrogance and your attitude shows in your work. It's been a long way since Iconoclast which was an amazing piece of work with genuine humor and humility, and it looks like a steady downhill ride.

A great production, ASD as their own type of demos which! I read many people complain about the music...?! Personnaly, many demos as an aggressive and noisy! Hope people prefer at least this one compare to those... anyway, everyone has their own taste I guess! ;-P
very nice one!
The visual impression are really nice in some places but it would have been equally impressive with new models or simply something abstract, I think.
On the musical side, however, I'm not that impressed. My personal preference of style or genre shouldn't get in the way for an objective view on it.
First of all - take a listen to Virgill's song I'm Free from MS2001. Vocals are definately not a bad thing when done right!
In my experience, the vast majority of scenmusicians doing songs with vocals start off by composing a piece of music that could easily stand alone without the lyrics. Then the lyrics are added and perhaps the composition adjusted a bit.
There's actually a huge difference in music meant for vocals and music meant to stand alone.
Gopher has a point about the levels across the frequency spectrum. There seems to be quite a few instruments colliding at the lower frequencies, muting eachother out. Compression would take care of that, and since it's a song for a demo, there should be plenty of compression-modules to chose from. Another - and in my opinion better - way to do it, is to carefully inspect the frequency-response of each instrument used. Try to equalize them, so you have less amplitude on frequency bands that collide. That's a great way to prevent unwanted distortion too.
All in all, I think the track is decently composed, but should be a little less "stand alone" to leave room for the vocals.
Just my 5 cents worth of constructive criticism and reason for the piggy. I am afterall more into music than geometry and shaders, so do forgive me :)

This is a great demo. Navis this demo appeals to a broader audience. I've shown it to some "normal" people and they enjoyed it far more than they did other demos especially the song. Though 90% of all ASD demos appeal to everyone including non-sceners
your other demos also have appealedto normal people audience.
your other demos also have appealedto normal people audience.
This prod is great. STFU haters... Navis's arrogance is earned. ASD's demos are the greater than any other demogroups.. the only demo thats really as appealing as asd' demos' was that old haujhobb demo with the female singing and elevated.. other demos generally never appealed to the broadest audience possible. whats the pt of making a demo that appeals to just demosceners. moreover asd's demos are technically and artistically complicated as well.
aMusics's music is awesome.. best demoscene music ever!!
havikentity: for someone apparently "defending" ASD, you sure are making a piss-poor job of it. As anyone who has ever spent a few minutes with Navis can tell you: he is perhaps the least arrogant person around. People will read what they will into his statements, but arrogance sure as hell isn't part of it.
the number of fake accounts seems to be drastically increasing.....

regarding music, i dont guess it's actually a true EBM, that is much harder with more noisy aggresive sounds; this one clearly reminds me early electronica pioneers Kraftwerk and inlucing visuals in scetchy style as from osciloscope get connected with that too.. check their music clips - flat or wire models of faces etc. i guess the track really fits together with visuals and even the lyrics seems to say something ;) i have absolutely no issue with this track and visuals together, they are melted well even i am not big fun of melodic early electronica music i was happy to hear this kind of music in ASD production; and this piece admire larger set of viewers outside of demoscene as nonsceners are often too quickly bored from "all-the-same" demos, of course the are not the same but the distinctive style of demos is not the cut of tea of every scene outsider.. this is a family demo! everyone will enjoy it :-)
i usually don't like these kind of demos but asd has a special touch. i'm still not a fan of this demo but adore the technicial background of it.
Nice trip, weird ideas, music fits. Thumbs up !!
@zden Being inspired by Call the Ships to Port by Covenant, the track is technically "Futurepop" (a sub-genre of EBM) started by bands Covenant and VNV Nation. :)
Also, Spin is in the top 50 pc demos in less then a week! Epic win!

Wow. Well done.
Some recycling, maybe an overuse of the "running"-theme in the last few asd-years and the trademark-kitsch looks a bit out of place this time… but these are minor (and stupid) complaints. Everything fits together really well and makes an awesome ride!
The vocals, I don't think they are bad, but some parts sound really strange… not as perfect as the rest of the prod demands. (I'm one of the few who really loved, and still loves, the old progressive-rock-guitar-electro-overkill-style so my taste and my expectations may play a role here)

good effects > seems like a music video. so thumbs up, also if the music didn't really catch me.
funny vocals
Funny that people are again complaining about the vocals when this time they're not even the problem - the whole mixing of the song is waaaay off (I mean, bass part of the drums at the far right, treble at the far left? WTF?). Quite weird that you say you took Call the Ships to Port as a reference because that's one of the best produced tracks in the whole genre, and Spin sounds like a _very_ early Apop or VNV song instead. Or rather like a bastard child of Underworld and the Crüxshadows. Or something. I'm looking forward to LB's remix; the composition is, again, good. :)
About the demo itself: Very much what pixtur said; somewhat less lenght wouldn't have hurt tho.

grekerna kan sin data och aMusic kan sin musik
Well, I'm not fake and I raise my thumb UP!
Very nice visuals in this demo, I especially liked the parts where raster graphics morph into a normal 3D scene (like in the rhino breaking walls part). The music is solid in the literal sense: Designed to blow up your sound system. Its only issue is the rather dodgy accent at times.
Watched it on wine 1.2.3 with no issues whatsoever.

Awesome effect, but I found the visuals to be detached from the music, both in style and progression. Feels like there is no head and tail to it, really.
Impressive visuals, but I didn't like the music though. Still a BIG thumb up!
[video (1080p)] and [video (720p)] are rendered wrong. Compare with YouTube at 4:20-4:30 (clock scene).
Please, capture another 1080p and 720p.

Unusual soundtrack, unusual visuals, yet again in a positive, probably not perfect way but certainly original. Like it.
Wow, that was cool and very different from most of the recent pixel-shader-and-particels-to stuff.
ASD - Absolutely Stunning Demos! (since 1891, if I remeber correctly)

This is the kind of demo that anyone from the demoscene should show to anyone out of it, because it is a true demo.
What ulrick said. Demos like this are pure art. Wonderful stuff.
90% thumb up still qualifies :)
As always, watching an ASD demo reaches to the depths of my soul and gives me one of the best pleasures that I ever experience.
However, the vocals are really bad for the watching experience. They pop up to the foreground and make the whole rest of the stream (video, music) secondary to them. A first-class demo becomes a mediocre clip for a mediocre song. It should not be like that. Visuals must stay in the foreground, with music augmenting them, and vocals just ruin this tight balance. The music on its own is really good though, so I think I would also love to watch it with a vocal-free but otherwise the same soundtrack. Can I also get it please?

polyphone: its a little bit too hard. the production was solid and deserves a piggy
Solid quality work, as always!
Voting with thumbs down for such a release should be considered blasphemy. How crappy should cappy crap be if this would be considered crap? THUMBS UP! Haters gonna hate anyway...

Far from being solid. The first scenes are totally disconnected, the music is repetitive but not too bad, but still... The vocals are horrible and the animated figures are not very esthetic ....Man, you guys should take a break or something.
WTF is wrong with you people?! If you think it sucks, go and do frakin better demo, then.
Obvious thumbs up.
Obvious thumbs up.
This demo rulez without a doubt!
You (and Fairlight) guys have reached a level of demomaking that's impossible to beat. You reached a level of professional and top notch demomaking that makes anything else completely unworthy to watch.
Cheers for that, but now, give your techniques away.

"Voting with thumbs down for such a release should be considered blasphemy." It's NOT !!! Do you know why ?
*** DEMO developers please read !!! ***
Because i will give every DEMO thumbs down if i must restart computer because developer never thought that his demo might not work and he put window on the top, so in case of failure you can't do anything but restart computer.
Screen is black, windows is on top of others and keyboard is disabled. No task manager no chance to quit program.
You must restart computer. This is problem with most of the demos.
Why developers cannot leave chance to user to quit inresposible demo ?
I don't want to restart computer for every demo that don't work and you have very good chance that would happen because many graphic cards are not supported in most of the demos.
THUMBS DOWN for every bug not ready demo.

...
Winner!
Loved the visuals, very 80s feel which rocks.
I haven't thumbed this up yet, really?
Definitely one of my faves from ASD.

White screen only for me. ATI 6970/Win7-64.

drunk comment:
i watched it the third and fourth time on the Evoke2011-BigScreen and all i did was telling ppl how good the tune fits the visuals ;)
so in the end you convinced me ;)
(its often like that: you produce some demo, seeing it or parts of it several hundred times and you exactly now what fits it...others need to watch it several times to get it this way aswell then...but comment after the first run, just like me! )

the more i see it the more i like it, man
Another great show provided by ASD!
Haters gonna hate.
DL link is dead for now
cool nice work ASD!
pos.
Quite breathtaking effects and a solid track.
Excellent! I love the amount of 'energy' that comes out of this, despite the very simplistic attributes it seems to have.
Hi,
as for "happiness", latest Nvidia drivers (285.62) cause weird artifacts with this Demo. Or is it related to my Geforce 580 ?

Just wanting to add that I watch demos since 1991 (Amnesia, Delusion, Panic, Holistic...) ,
so I usually try anything before calling for help... :-)

no hint, anyone?
oh well, it's probably just another demo-related issue.
'coz all *other* demos (even very old ones) work just fine....
I'll forget this one

Brilliant in every aspect
You are a freak navis... Fucking Brillant!!!!
Great GFX, music mostly meh.
so what? i liked it.
lovely - but really glitchy on my pc (winvista, geforce 9600)
I'm not hugely keen on the music, but I do love the graphics. (FYI: I saw this on YouTube - I doubt it would run on my old laptop)
I actually liked the music, and the vocals...... And of course the visuals!
Would be nice but its completely broke on Nvidia's 300.xx drivers. Running GTX 680 so can't go back to older drivers. :(
that's what I said.... doesn't work on Nvidia cards since 28x.xx drivers I think.... but they don't care..........
atlan, we do care, but unfortunately there's only so much that can be done at any given time... i trust it will be fixed when it's fixed..
rewatched this. piggie was too kind.
namevoting
This is pure energy!
great demo with terrible music
great demo&music
this path calculation stuff is epic.
@atlan, Shadowdane : same thing here on GTX 285.
I'm getting a weird spaghetti with my gtx 460 :(
awesome
Getting garbage with nv 4200m and nv 680gtx as well...I think it's just broken on new drivers? Really wish it was fixed :)
The recent ASD demo's i've tested so far all get garbled with any sort of 3d objects. Lifeforce works fine as does iconoclast.
How could I miss this until now? Thx 2 scene.hu for the hint.
what the ass balls how had I not seen this yet
Masterpiece! Good electro soundtrack.
I assigned my first cdc to this great production, because I love it so much.
today i leaned.. there are high profile groups (thanks to mog) ... i think ASD is one of those. and for me the first and best one. i was stunning already on lifeforce... but this one is great too.
Well this was one of those prods that I just loved. It's such a same that I am experiencing the same problem as praetor_alpha, Danguafer and many others whit my gtx 660..
awesome, have had the song stuck in my head despite not watching it for over a week!
play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! play again! :)
Can I burn my wings and fly? <3
well... fuck.
yes !!
Good code, good sound ... spin again!
pure shit on my alienware
Amazing animation, crisp code and a solid soundtrack - damn great!
this is just the most beautiful thing i've ever seen
nice
I don't mind the music in this, the actual music and song is decent even if the style is not my cup of tea. I am not feeling the low register vocal used for the verses however I really like the higher harmony used in the chorus parts. Anyway the visuals are really cool and unique and honestly I have no idea how Navis codes this sort of thing, even after reading the explanation. I hope ASD can come back again sometime soon and bring us some more of their unique style.
woow
Technically impressive, yes, but I really disliked the music. Makes it hard to watch. Sorry.
Nice visuals, but gets repetitive after a while. Add to that the horrible "music", gets a thumb down.
Just re-ran this thing. Still nice watch.
The vocals may not be comparable to your favorite choice (i see bieber and timberlake references in the comments). However, i've always thought of EBM as comparable to punk inspired music. For me, the "primitive" vocals, adds to the roughness of the sound track and that grows on me.
Watching the demo made me wonder if it's too long; but then again - I wasn't bored :-)

I feel love...
Approved by Moroder.
Well I hope this issue gets sorted out.
missing thumb, this demo is all kinds of awesome as previously stated.
Still rulez.
I love this demo a LOT.
For some reason the vocals don't detract from the awesomeness on forgotten rewatch. But then all I hear is "beer and me". Which is awesome.
Recent thread was obviously just a scam to get more Pouet votes on the prod! They should be ashamed!!
Shit, can't vote. Seems I already thumbed it up. Pff. :)

The music just completely ruins this.
The tune is stuck in my head.

Good rendering.
This is at its best, and the best.
3DfX prods from freakin 97-98 (admittedly with a glide wrapper) and the first DirectX demo ever called "Trip" from 97 work just fine on my 2014 rig with latest Nvidia drivers.
This 2011 demo doesn't. Just sayin...

NOW WORKS WITH LATEST DRIVERS 347.88!!! IT WAS NVIDIA ALL ALONG!
Great product, good price, Perfect shipping, great communication, I recommand.
Best demo ive ever seen /Rygar
Great demo!
Completely mesmerized by the visuals and everything, just haven't enjoyed the vocals too much.
The best ASD demo since lifeforce.
visuals are really nice, but I had to turn the sound off

What's wrong with "Spin" on modern videocards? Almost no textures.
People complaining on soundtrack certainly didn't listen to Kraftwerk ;)
