I love rolla' koasta' - but the sound seems a little buggy in the transition between every act
The music was kind of a letdown, but the rollercoaster made me beg for mercy....wow!
This demo have some great parts and effects, like the roller-coaster
Now, if this isn't a "demo", what else?
A plenty of before unseen effects (the rotating-torii thing even made it into NVIDIA's official demos for the GeForce 3 :), thegreat rollercoaster part, the "as if it weren't already enough" rollercoaster with the voxel landscape, everything fast... and even the music, well, nah, Doj is a nice guy, just tolerate it :)

For maximum enjoyment, watch the coaster part(s) 10 feet from a party bigscreen, and get everyone in your row scream and throw their hands in the air :).
You know why I love this demo! Needless to say. Beautifull! Simply Beautifull!!!
.....not so bad.....only one thing is good - the rolla coasta, but this effect was implanted in Switchback demo/by Rebels/ on Amiga many years ago....
Canonball: The roller coaster in Switchback was an animation. This one is realtime. Big difference. :)
A demo with great effects, no design, and a terrible drumloop in the soundtrack.
impressive demo :)
I saw it yesterday! Aaaah,. anamnesis....
cool, cool
This is a really cool demo. It is already said and i say it again, the roller coaster really 0wnz0r ;)

Very nice demo, especially the rollercoaster part is awesome. The sound was probably one reason because it didn't won.
although design, colors and music transitions suck badly, it's still one of my alltime favourites. the roller coaster was incredible for its time, they have some pretty creative ideas in there and finally good ol' cubic style with some very funny things. for me a classic.
Toasted's rollercoaster was a damn good idea, as novative as the drummer in Jumpy by Digital Murder. True gems in term of creativity imho...
A must see if your machine still supports MsDos =)

I like the last part (roller coaster in space or something). I can get pass the crash if I don't use 'linear' as video mode.
Mmm... toasted!
Mmm... toasted!
yes
i love it, will install dos now just to watch it again!
Damn cool demo from the older days...!!
I really love that one...!!
Man, there should be some 'movement' in the scene to open a 'group' who releases win32-ports of famous good old dos-demos !!!
Otherwise those gems will be lost forever some day when no one will have a chance to install DOS on a nowadys computer anymore... :-((
Get it going, guys!! WE NEED WIN32-PORTS OF THE BEST DEMOS FROM THE PAST !!!
Keep the scene spirit alive, pals!!

i hope that the demodvd-group maybe make some oldschool DVD, too. Otherwise those cool demos, and everything with it, will get lost. Yes, keep the scene spirit alive.
Video version wanted !!! (mpeg, vob, mov, divx ...)
haven't commented this one?
This one was a big reason for assembling a DOS box @ home. :)))
Hey, i love that rollercoaster part!! and the design and the stuff... just coool!

It's ok, I guess.. :D
This is part of my top 10 BEST demo of all time. It blows me away, and since it was made in 1996, no hardware acceleration, tracked music etc etc and runs fine on an old Pentium 100... Truely is a masterpiece!!
Oh... And for those who complain that the music is not sync'ed, it's because of the refresh rate... It's a bug in the demo, so, either you fix your gear setup, or you stop complaining about his, please ;°)
Had totally forgot about this one for years, but now I saw it again. Doesn't really matter to me whether the roller coaster is innovative or not, it's still the best one I've seen in a demo. The only thing that really bothers me is that the credits/greets are laid out poorly.
I was killed on my seat when this prod was released :)
good for 96! very fast 2d effects
can be launched in dos mode on winMe+GF4 ;)
2d gfxs and textures are very ugly
coasters are cool, specially the lunar wich runs with a voxel land

Great
yeah the rollercoaster...
when i first saw it on the bigscreen, couldn't believe it's full realtime - ofcourse later on a monitor it was quite easy to spot the trick :)

altough faked, the rollercoaster still rockz!
even in 2004!
and nice other fx, of course! i'm loving the start-sequence with the colorful tunnel..

what's the fake? it's dynamic level of detail!
and the movements of the trains takes even gravity into account, that's why it looks so real.

voxel domination!
This was one of my favorites of all time. Stability, however, was not it's forte... on modern systems the coasters end up sorta just going on forever with the music getting lost in oblivion. Z-Buffering would have REALLY helped on this one though. Still, pretty damn good
a classic
woohoo!
rollertoaster
Great.
classic
impressive
I believe this is one of the first demos I ever saw, that pulled me into the demoscene :) Great demo!
No comment yet from me? Simply kickassing brilliant. A video or a win32 port is really needed..
Thumb up for roller coaster scene, it looks very nice.
i'm second preacher
Oh WTF! Videotaping it right now.
Very impressive for the time.
Incredible.
Absolutely stunning for the time (especially the roller-coaster part,of course)...thank you for the video rip, rarefluid!

rollercoaster and music.
How did you get the rollercoaster part to run in DOSBox? When I try, it always crashes just before it (when it's changing songs or something)
classic
Preacher: there were 2 versions of the demo, as far as I remember, the later one is always crashing after collercoaster part, even in pure DOS.
i love the rollercoaster
I love it.
Pretty good for 1996.
I've never been able to watch this, many thanks to rarefluid for the video rip.
It's a great demo, imho it should be set as viewing-tip.

yeah, the rollercoaster even rocks ten years later!
and yes: thank you, rarefluid! keep it up!
I love this demo!
Apart from the lengthy circle-thingy, this demo is an all-time killer!
Toasted!
the "version finale" with the ctststfx.zip fix (unzip the XM) works great in dosbox, although there's a brief pause between the video mode changes. amazing how i still get warm fuzzies from the first coaster part, even if this is long before the days of filtering and mipmaps. :) a bigger screen helps.
One of the best DOS demos, the coaster was the killer in 96. Showed this to some friends back then, they couldn't believe it...
Yep this ruled.
Love this! Mostly because of the excellent music!
Who has been stealing my thumbs goddammit..
Toasted =)
oops. forgot the thumb...
Maybe it was technically good for its day, but I found it so ugly I actually winced! Some truly disgusting 2d graphics and design.
Pure greatness.
What I said
Voxel landscape and rollercoaster.. PHEEEEW!
i think its ready to snack!
This was the first demo i ever seen. Great!
re-thumb!!!
one of the best demos from that time. cubic & $een!
Cubic Team! This "RIDE" demo was a must!
missing thumb was missing!
I saw this no earlier that this week on big screen, and I loved it!
Watched that one countless times when I was a kid
super smooth
Great demo
awesome
:D
Loved it very much when it was released. For years. Especially the rollercoaster scene. The music there.. always gets me :) Mmmmmm
rollertoaster!
Strange scenes put together here, but i love the rollercoaster and i would like to see it revived.
!!
nice just saw this for the first time on the TuM livestream
good one
Cool thing! Also see: http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=9305
Nice demo, esp voxel and roller coaster.
I remember it being cool back in the day. From today's perspective a bit tedious watch and the music is, honestly, horrible. Worth a thumb in any case.
!
Coder design all over the place, but some kickass effects here that speak from both the technical side and their visual outcome.
still love it. including its flaws.
Ah, yes. One of those "money shot" demos, mostly remembered for one particular effect or gimmick. In this case it's the pretty long rollercoaster scene that still looks quite neat. :)
Rewatching this, I was quite surprised how many parts there actually are. Most of them ugly, but still engaging in some way. Even the music is still quite pleasant and much better than in most 1990s DOS demos.

still rulez after all those years!!
Definitely in my all time top list of DOS demos!
Has it really been 20 years? And has there really not been a better YouTube capture posted in 9 years? Time to fix that.
Toasted (MCv1 framedump edition) 60fps 720p video
That's better.

great code, but not aged soooo well
The combination of voxel and 3d in the same coordinate system is quite mindblowing to me. I tried a couple of times with a 2.5d voxel +3d and it always looked a bit wacko. In this one it looks like it works out. Is it a "real 3d" raycasted voxel?
space roller coaster over voxel landscape with breaks. need I say more?
hoo man, not to mention the coder quitting the group in the nfo, this is true demoscene art
Fun!
