lame intro. cool charts.

Anyone noticed slight similarities between places 6 and 7 in the wilddemo charts? :)

That single mishap apart, cool charts. Glad to see it finally released.

Nice to watch, boring to read
added on the 2002-08-21 18:32:38 by Wain Wain
Very very cool. As usual, the criticism first:

- Mipmaps wouldn't have hurt
- The font is somewhat unreadable, especially the small one. Next time please something more eye-pleasing, ok?
- 4.5mb for a pure chartsmag are too much IMHO. I think three instead of five tunes would have been enough, and maybe you could pack the rest of the data better or sth..
- I would like to adjust the scroll speed or at least stop/fast forward through the upscrollers

Apart from that, really good to see that there's a decent chartsmag again. And the innovative/stylish interface looks great. Music is cool, too. Not to forget having three intros in the intro top10 *g*

Anyway, continue this.
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 18:33:45 by kb_ kb_
hey kb... thx for criticism... we need this kind of support to make thenext issue better...

yes, we will add some more features to the scrollers next time like faster/slower/stop options and stuff like this...
4.5mb isnt that much or ? hehe...
okay.. we will think about the other suggestions... and the font will be improved, i promise ! :)

flawless apart from the (lackluster 131099/sunflower, distance 131099/sunflower) glitch in the wild charts

could indeed use the variable scrolling speed, size is ok here
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 18:57:59 by _-_-__ _-_-__
Hehe, this is fun :) Finally some "bigger" charts again.

Respect for the work that obviously went into this (especially the votecounting :). Interface is nice too except the font issue kb already mentioned.

Some other suggestions: Scene Homepage/Group Homepage/Wild Demo... doesn't make much sense to seperate them based on the platform IMHO. Atleast with Wild Demo, the distinction is absolutely artificial anyway.

The intro is not really necessary IMHO - just an intropic would do :)

Since it seems like im the only one who has a modem nowdays i wont complain about the size. However.. this wont run on my laptop so i have to wait until the c64 version or until someone releases a .txt version of it.

Fucking great production mates! Go on that way, the scene needs it!
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 21:34:42 by ghandy ghandy
great production, i have read it from start to end. i will be waiting for the next issue like mad...

corrections:

- mogue is no amiga ascii group, but an amiga ascii artist
- the categories "c64 musicians" and "c64" graphicians" are switched
- a "mp3 release group" category in the warez part would be nice. leave alone the "movie" category, it has nothing to do with scene imho.
- change "pc ascii" into "pc ansi/ascii", as on this platform the both artforms are kinda going together.
- the diz file has to be called "file_id.diz" and NOT wcharts.diz, as then no bbs lister can read it. (YES, there ARE still bbs's)
- i want to be in the amiga ascii artist charts ! =)

Very nice piece of work gentz, but still it's very obvious to see that it's mainly ppl from the new scene that have voted, but that's also okie dookie, so keep it up gentz ...

kinda lots of votesheets! still lot of charts look empty and pale, you should get more c64 and amiga sceners voting.. (oh yeah how wise advice ;D)

agree with GBC/GBA chart and why having consoles only in illegal charts? there is healthy demoscene on these as well.. + add speccy =]

rulez added on the 2002-08-21 22:10:05 by raver raver
You guys have managed to create very representative charts of the PC demo scene. More than 500 voters - wow! Respect! This will certainly motivate a lot of people to keep being active in the scene.
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 22:13:06 by Adok Adok
A bit too basic perhaps. Would be nice to see a couple of articles or just interviews or party results to read whilst listening to the music (fantastic selection btw).

I also agree with Ryg. An intro pic would be preferable to an intro. It might make it more compatible with low end PCs too.

That aside, it's really good to see a new chart and a new source of motivation for sceners.
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 22:18:46 by Wade Wade
Dunno, but I still don't quite get the point of releasing a > 4mb charts mag, or chart mags in general, but ok, this is well done, except for the hard-to-read font and the not-so-great performance on my old box.

The most hated scener/group charts were fun to read and it was cool to see wildmag in the diskmag charts (das ich das nochmal erleben darf :)

This sure rulez, but could be better too. Please change the font, it's really un readable (especially in scrollers). And what comes to scrollers, please add possibility to change speed. Great musics though. Waiting for the next one :)

pretty great work you guys did there, i'd give 2 thumbs up even if we had the option here. my only problem with this issue is that i barely can't read the small font and .. that i've never been member of mfx. :)

Indeed it is very cool to have a real chartsmag.

Positive criticism coming up:
- Slow, any chance for a slight faster version?
- Small fonts
- Scrollers are non-interactive.
- Export 2 text feature
rulez added on the 2002-08-22 02:37:22 by Gargaj Gargaj
..(cont'd >:)

- configurability for detail/resolution/windowedmode
- kill logging in unpacker (see C:/temp/debug_unrar.txt)
- some keyboard routines (left-right - main categorys; up-down - subcategories; or sg like that)
- top 20 instead of top 10 :)

ehm, no more ideas now... maybe later :)
keep it up until then >:)

For some reason the chart is really really slow and choppy on my work PC.. Oh well, it's not that good of a machine.
As for the chart itself, it's quite nice. I even liked the intro. This production takes me back to around ~1990 when I first "discovered" the scene and saw Eurochart etc. Now if I could just figure out what the hell some of these weird categories like "oldskool group" mean, I'll be able to vote for the next issue... :)

oh, yes. the music is very good.
rulez added on the 2002-08-22 10:58:55 by diver diver
oldschool groups and demos are a great category. this keeps people from voting future crew because they havn't seen any other pc demo in the last five years. even more important on amiga and c64. this old stuff WAS groundbreaking but today's top demos are just much better.
added on the 2002-08-22 11:24:04 by chaos chaos

added on the 2002-08-22 11:36:33 by barock barock
So, "oldskool groups" means teams that haven't released anything in 5 years? Right. Blah, today's scene is so complicated with all the silly terms.. =)

Sigh. Demos are allowed to take full advantage of newest hardware etc, but diskmags? Come on. I've been eagerly waiting for this since I voted and now I'm told it requires 700MHz CPU (sick) and a Geforce (sick). Oh well, I decide to run it anyway. The intro is very sluggish, but it's manageable. Then I finally get the menus, which are really hard to navigate using the mouse since the cursor lags almost five seconds. Argh. Also, I have no idea how am I supposed to access those actual charts, since clicking on their names does nothing. Don't know if it's me or my computer, but this sure made me angry.

Charts like these should have a "no selfvoting" rule (and possibly some kind of identification thingie).
we deleted tons of selfvotes... but surely we failed to kill them all... some groups tried to cheat like hell... next issue we will publish FAKERS in the issue...

cool.

html version would be a bit too ordinary. too banal. oldskoolism is enough for a reason to keep it this way, with the text files included in the package :)

diamondie, i don't see the point in a "best invitation" chart since the idea of invitro's is more to announce a party (or whatever) and invite people there, than to show off code/gfx/music.

1. thx to more than 2000 people who downloaded our worldcharts baby till now...

2. thx to all support and critizm ... all the email writers and all the manymany querys on ircnet... hell...

we are now thinking about stuff we could change to make it better...
but after all it seems like that most of nowadays people prefer a small textfile or html-site to view the charts... and we wont do this for sure !
it seems to be not worth to spend so much time again to do a second issue... so we will discuss about a "light" version of worldcharts or "no" version of worldcharts in the future now... online voting wont be open till we know what we will do...

- there was a way to quickly jump to this or
that position
- eventually, that one could search for a "string"

rulez added on the 2002-08-25 15:21:28 by saffron saffron
I understand Barock. You work so hard on such a production, getting the design right, checking votes, adding nice tunes...

And then you get the comment "can't you do a text file instead because my pc can't run it". At such times, you say "can't they just appreciate and enjoy the hard work".

And Razor1911 in pc charts...well, charts will always be false in some way as people will always cheat when voting (can't understand why though).

Major respect to all who worked on this very cool chart (very nice tunes and design). I loved it!

I just watched it today. I didn't liked at the beginning that it wants a 3d accelerated card, since a diskmag is pure 2d text, not much 3d,.. and at a least a nice pleasant chart/diskmag should be always readable in lower hardware..

Though it's the first time to read an accelerated diskmag (?! :) and looks really diferrent and appealing with the particles and music curve and highres stuff! But still, I beleive it would be good to also see a software version of it in the future, because diskmag is not a demo and you want to read it no matter if it doesn't use the latest technology..

I don't like several things, which you should think to improve: 1) the fonts are way to small to read 2) Some of the sections (e.g. greets) scroll smoothly and slowly a text,. nice... but there should be an option to scroll through it faster.. 3) There is no 3...

It's also nice to see so many voters finally in charts, more sceners should support to make a less subjective charts on PC again! (Though,. charts are always subjective..) How the hell didn't I voted the first time? I hope I will not miss the second..

Good new start for a new big chartsmag with lot of voters though!

Barock, dont listen to the lame asses who say "do a html version, I cant see the charts cos i have a really shitty PC"
WTF????? So, these guys comment on accel prods, but cant watch an accel diskmag???
Lame or what!
Carry on doing the mag, dont listen to losers (we all know who the real sceners are), and try and cut out more of those fake votes (razor can go f**k themselves)

well, charts should really be readable on lowend hardware as well.. but no problem with the intro, just make it skippable. + if there are text files as well.. who cares.

(just please no fkn online htmls)

Fuck a html version, if those lamers got a 486 50 mhz with a old isa gfx card they cant be that interested in todays scene anyway.

Keep up the good work, this is just how i wanted it to be !!! :)

I like it very much, perhaps the top10 lists could come to screen a bit slower (just a bit) to keep up the excitement. Apart from kb's comment, i liked the font, it was simple, and stylish, and readable, perhaps it could be just 2 pixels taller or something :)

No HTML versions. Those are for dickweeds. This issue was really great, waiting anxious to see the next one! Respects.

Funny, the .PAK file is a RAR file, but protected with a password. I mean, I am surprised that there is a password. Is it something common?
