This is a really cool intro, how come it got 99th place?
rulez added on the 2004-05-29 22:00:53 by Zplex Zplex
99th place is something you choose if you do not know which place the prod got in the competition.

the intro doesn't work btw - "glut32.dll" not found. since glut32.dll is 232kb, i doubt that this would classify as a real 64kb intro either. (yes, i *could* copy glut32.dll to the executable directory but since i'm lazy i'd rather say this: make your intros work and people will watch them)

But what about 64k intros using DirectX dlls?
added on the 2004-05-29 22:56:40 by breez breez
And what about all those shameless intros using kernel32.dll/user32.dll ? (don't repeat it but these two ones also have to use ntdll.dll which have to use ntoskrnl.exe to run properly, and hal.dll is involved too together with many other files, a real scandal.) Btw, it looks like this intro also requires msvcrtd.dll (debug version of msvcrt) why is that ?

glut is not part of the actual gl distribution, it's an additional library like d3dx or sdl.
added on the 2004-05-29 23:21:42 by ryg ryg
I would have prefered a single .exe file and the use of glut32.dll is really questionable for a 64k intro.

Thumb up for the effort though, especially for a first intro. It's always a pleasure to see new french crews arise ;)

what do you need glut32 for by the way?

i liked this one actually.
the flaws:
- why use glut? i mean, setting up a standard windows wrapper is around the same size or even smaller. you don't want to be portable, do you :)
- pack everything into one file please, you can use rarlib from memory you know :)
- french english very good is héhé.
- the jittery-noisy filter was a bit overused even tho it actually looked cool.
- standing still in a wobbling tunnel? come on :) you could've at least shifted the texcoords :D
- too much of a parody of itself. and the h7 woman wasn't really animated well :)

apart from that it's a nice progression from your older demos Skarab :)

Actually, it seems that is writing something to disk, it's using glut.dll, etc, etc. I'll wait to a possible "final" with all that fixed to rate this one.

I use glut32.dll just for drawing the spaceship in the town, remember it's a joke prod, so...

I made everything to (not) run it.. :P
It asks me for glut32.dll, I search on the net and find it, it asks me for glide2x.dll, I find that too on the net, it asked me for msvcsomething.dll, I searched on the net and found it and installed it on the path, it finally seems to start running but I get a crash and so a change of my desktop resolution :P Aghh..
added on the 2004-06-02 20:10:13 by Optimus Optimus
Well, I have updated the zip file, now there are three version in it :
- one with no glut32 / msvcrt use
- one the same but with no filter
- the party version
I think like that everybody will happy :)
Optimus: now it should work, but something is strange, the intro doesn't use/link/... glide2x !

I really liked the overall visual look.. reminded me of the 1997 era when I really became interested in the scene :) But some effects weren't that special, and the postproces filter (?) was rather ugly in places. Still a thumbs up.

liked it... could've probably been cooler as independent production than multiparody

not for me...
but the fakebump at the end was quite funny :)
added on the 2004-12-23 23:48:40 by blala blala
. Preacher: the postproces filter was to create a "software rendering feelings".
. Blala: the end effect is true software bump.
(software calculation and render to texture)
thanks and remember version without filter and external dll use are here http://scene.org/file.php?file=%2Fparties%2F2004%2Figdrp3%2Fin64%2Fks01-dtro_knight%27s_storm_ultimate_pack.zip&fileinfo

blah skarab the shit master
I will give this prod a weak rulez. Some thoughts:
Using glut (in my opinion a non-standard library) seems a little bit like cheating.
The music is sometimes really good, but at other times (somewhere in the middle) I don't really like it.
I think the radial blur is overused, but nice.
I think the filter is too strong, but a really nice idea.
A combined parody of Fr-?? _and_ H7? A strange idea, I cannot say yet whether I like it.
Overall a good intro, but with lots of stuff that could be improved.

Just about rules.
Blur is good, music is not so good, didn't like the end scene that much.
