jobe :: rather nifty features? yeah, sure, acoustic filters, filter envelopes (registered users), pitch envelope, midi macros, new note actions, carry, random volume & panning option, channel volume effect, global volume, 64 channels... nad many more "rather nifty features". and btw. ft2 have fucked-up fine tunning.
vdmsound let run it with xp :)
never really used it due to the horrible interface and user-unfriendliness, but it's said to have some good points.

Impulse tracker had the advanced features and Fasttracker the unmatched usability. Too bad those worlds never merged to form the ultimate tracker (and now, it's too late anyway...).
Personally, I only used it as an xm player because it2 managed to play them in 16bit quality on my crappy soundcard and ft2 didn't.

i have tried tracking with several trackers, and this was the best one (and easiest to use)
looked tempting around the time i checked it, yet instead of getting into i kept using what i've mastered

As an FT2 zealot I hate this stupid interface and I think Jeff still wants me to die for publishing a certain algorithm, but there have been made so many great songs with this tool that it HAS to be good somehow.

the first tracker i managed to do something with. And the first music tool I got. I don'T use it anymore (i use ModPlug -configured as IT- instead) but I can't deny IT is TeH ruling tacker.
...and now about trackers: I prefer FruityLoops and the likes (tho you can't have anything other than wav or mp3 with that.)

While I was reluctant to switch from ST3 in the early days, once we hit version 2 it was all good. I still use it to this day as my main scene music tool.

i never was a fan of the interface, but that's almost a religious issue.
the network mode was killer feature that was sadly never used, probably cause it required ipx at a time where network cards weren't that common.
still, yep an incredible tool.

hmmm... i wonder if network mode will work decently on WinXP wireless cards runningIT on vdmsound. would own :D

It made me itch all over while using it (ST3 interface...bleargh) but starting with version 2.x it was actually getting very funky.
Hm, can't run this in emulator... How to use this in emulator? Do you have video filez?

I've used IT for a year and then moved to FT2, I prefer FT2 but IT was a fine alternative.

IT might have had more features but it came long time after FT2 introduced instruments with envelopes and stuff. I remember the first IT versions simply represented ST3 without any fancy new features. Textmode interface sucks also ;)

yeah, the idea to make it in textmode to save cpu time was (in 1995) just brilliant.

I started tracking in 2005/06. This got me started after FT2 refused to work. After ripping the samples from "Zak-zaka-zak-zak" (an s3m) I made a track in, uh, not too long.
Context-sensitive help really helps. This is pretty much vital. I caught on eventually after reading IT.TXT... or something like that.
Nowadays I tend to track in SchismTracker as I run Linux & FreeBSD, although I like to keep this available in DOSBox (so I can build fairly accurate players and also tell Storlek what else needs fixing in the meantime).
This is the most advanced of the "big 4" (mod/s3m/xm/it), and yet manages to be easier to write a decent player for than XM.
I really only have one gripe about this. Pulse, you need to document your damn compression and your damn filters, instead of relying on the rest of us to work it out.
Otherwise, I would recommend this to pretty much anyone who's got DOS.

In retrospect, I should have used IT more.
Thumb for the quality, even though I didn't prefer it. One sacrificed a certain kind of interface for more powerful features. However... things like filters are commonplace in computer music programs of all kinds nowadays, and some of the 'power' of IT (over its competitors) in the 90s is no longer a selling point in 2011, specially given that people still using trackers tend to be using them for chip music now. Still... I mean, how can you thumb it down? Great program.
For sure what a stuff ! I've written hundredS .IT songs with it since 1997 to 2004 ;)

This was a revolution in features (64 channels, 99 samples, filters...) but for many people (including me) the text-mode interface looked like a step back. But, I know, looks might be deceptive.
No doubt it's an impressive tool that allows the creation of fantastic music.
