- la_mettrie: Hugi (and Pain) is in there! But the catch-all answer for "why wasn't X mentioned" is "because I couldn't make it rhyme".
(I can now see why most WDSTF parodies cop out by not going in chronological order.... putting this together nearly drove me batty.) - isokadded on the 2024-10-10 00:33:40

- From the nfo:
Quote:At the same time, the democene has come to terms with ready-made engines, and even game engines in demos, fully animated demos, etc. Why is there such a strong rejection of AI? All of these are difficult questions.
If non-coders were using Notch and Unity to make demos full of "check out these 100000 gouraud shaded cubes!!!", then that would be shit. But they're not. They're using them as a tool for getting original creative ideas out of their heads and onto the screen.
If you're a non-artist with a story or message you want to tell, then I can see the attraction of using AI as a tool to present that vision. But if the only message you have is "here is some music that I didn't make", what's the point? - sucksadded on the 2024-05-01 11:59:15

- On the memes thing, I have to dispute the suggestion that they're just being lazily played straight with no attempt at cleverness. Yes, subtlety did go out of the window, but that's kind of the whole point... it's lampshading the notion that demosceners have a solemn duty to systematically port these things to every platform in existence, firstly by setting up a transparently silly pretext ("your prescription is ready...") for shoehorning them in here, and then blitzing through them in 30 seconds to subvert the usual state of affairs (namely, drip-feeding every compo in the next six months with Pharmafarjan, PharmaNICCC 2000 and Pharma Apple, which I think we can all agree would have been truly lame).
Point taken, if you're thoroughly sick of demoscene memes at this point then this isn't going to be any consolation - doing The Thing ironically is still Doing The Thing. But I do think there's a place on the scene for self-indulgent memey things, and that's the kind of demo we collectively set out to make, so no regrets there... - isokadded on the 2022-11-01 20:36:01

- @ham: A bit simpler than that... the angle of rotation varies on a slow sine wave, and then the centre point moves at a fixed velocity in that direction (with a bit of parameter fudging to stop it from drifting off screen too quickly).
