- scroll up and down works fine in dosbox if you don't use the builtin dos but freedos 1.0.
i built a 2.88mb floppy image, put freedos boot files and dssk3 on there and it works fine. in dosbox with sound and in virtual pc without sound. but scrolling works in all directions. - isokadded on the 2007-07-15 20:14:39

[at university, i once wanted to write something demoish for the fpga developer board we had there but they did not let me :( The board did not have any sound output though (but a parallel port, but I didn't have one of those oldskool parallel port digital2analog converters)] - rulezadded on the 2007-05-23 23:41:23

- Sorry, I am no musician. You could have stopped the music by clicking the Music link if you wanted to play longer (perhaps the sfx are better?).
OTOH, do you know any .mid with some relation to breakout that sounds better and is <470 bytes? I treated the .mid with a hex editor to remove all the unnecessary bytes (tempo switches, copyright notes, instruments for channels never used etc) to get it that small... Unfortunately there is no way in Javascript to play music that is not in a file. :( - isokadded on the 2007-05-23 22:35:49

Tested in Firefox 2, IE 7, Opera 9.
You might need quicktime plugin for sound effects and music. - isokadded on the 2007-05-23 21:57:38

- very nice, especially the javascript LZW compression.
I thought about writing a Javascript compressor today, but not LZW but very simple replacement based (find the "best" substring and replace it by an unused character; the code to undo it is about 100 byte) - if you want to you could say "a variation of LZ77". Tested it on your 15671 byte r.js file (uncompressed it first then "recompressed" it).
The compression took ages (~10mins), so this algorithm is a really bad idea for fast compression, but decompression worked unnoticable fast and the demo still worked. And guess what: it compressed your js file (20534 Bytes uncompressed) to 11221 Bytes :P
Seems that LZW is no magic bullet.
(you can find the smaller r.js at http://home.arcor.de/mschierlm/test/r.js.zip) - rulezadded on the 2007-05-19 23:10:14

- looks nice.
btw according to virusscan.jotti.org, avira antivir is the only one that detects this as a virus (and it also reports that avira is known for false positives).
all antivir users (for free version as well) can submit questionable files to the antivirus lab (quarantine it first then right-click the file in the quarantine window). If enough ppl submit kkrunchy'd demos they might fix their heuristics ;) - rulezadded on the 2007-05-09 21:35:03
