Why is C64 dark and sad, while Specy is bright and happy?

spectrum = ugly 80ies colors!

C64 = pastel colors = art !

speccy colosr are just 8 variationos of 0 or 255 in the RGB "registers", plus 8 darkened versions of those, while the c64 has 8 more colors. 8 colors of the speccy and c64 palette is the same, the other 8 are new non RGB maxed out colors on c64, and 8 dark version of RGB maxed outs on speccy.

Speccy = coder colors+dark coder colors
c64 = coder colors + some other ones to make nice gradients.

About the dark speccy colors, I don't think I have seen these on any speccy screenshots, so I guess they're only available on some speccys, and therefore not used very often.

cruzer, dark speccy colors are nothing special they are there to use on all machines.

xeron, it has a lot of colors, but no chance for a high color resolution so c64 wins again.

cruzer: The dark speccy colors are actually the normal ones. The full-intensity (0/255) colors are those you'll get with BRIGHT.

I can't understand that the problem how many colors ? Real guru can draw in one colors :) get peecee & be happy :D

Ok, studied some speccy pics closely, and it seemed like the dark colors were not an urban legend after all. But they don't seem to be very different from the original colors. Only like 10% darker.

Time for some speccy pics... Amazing what they can get out of this computer, which is clearly inferior to the mighty C64. ;-)))

How come the Speccy images look so pixelated even though they are at the same resolution as the shown C64 pix?

Maybe an inferior palette???

They're pixelated because there is much more dithering on the images. Speccy Graphics can have only 2 colours in each 8x8 pixel region.

The C-64 pics look great, but the latter ones are using the "320x200" "trick" to get a higher resolution.
