whats up with the new macbook.. putting a fucking intel graphics card in it.. now im gonna go buy a pc instead...
it's a step backwards from the ibook with it's radeon 9550..
have been waiting for this computer for like.. over half a year now.. even postponed a laptop buy last fall because of the new cool intel macs..

i guess i will never do a demo for a mac now.. and i wanted to do that..
but apple fucks up bad.

i have a radeon 9550 and it's actually quite cool. not the best available on the market, but i'm completely satisfied.
what's the problem with it?

the problem isnt the radeon 9550.. the problem is that the new macbook.. formely ibook.. has a fuckin Intel GMA 950.

I was with 7th's Cube out in Copenhagen this weekend. We walk into a bar, and from far far away, I spot this guy with square glasses and "cheesy" hair. I could smell from a great distance that this guy was a Mac user. I walk up to him and say: "Excuse me." "Yes?" "Do you use Macintosh Computers?" "Yes." "Okay, that was all."

the thing that really annoys me is that they go from radeon 9550 which is a rather OK gpu, to GMA 950 which is one of the most sucky gpu:s in modern age.

it's like "yeah, let's make the new macbook 5x faster with the cpu, but with the gpu we can go 3 years backwards and make it 50% slower"

anyway laptops are for working or surfing teh intarweb or watching movies in bed, not demos :>

This was to be expected. You won't find many cheap PC 12"-13.3" laptops that have a dedicated graphics chip in the market and the new macs have similar hardware. If you're willing to pay, you can get one though.

All the previous Apple laptops were getting seriously underpowered in the CPU department with the G4 and they felt they needed to compensate for that with the GPU at least. Now that it's out of the way, they don't need to anymore.

And FYI, a GMA950 (a desktop version anyway) can run surprisingly many demos with almost-decent performance (decent most of the time). Even stuff like Animal Attraction or anything from ASM'05 is watchable although not always enjoyable. Personally I'll just settle for a MacBook Pro, budget permitting, or an iMac failing that.

i don't mind that gfxcard the least. if you want demomachines go buy stationary x86-boxes ffs!

all intel gpus ive tried have rasterized really poorly with shitloads of artifacts. i wouldnt even want dock to run with an intel graphics chipset.

stefan: well, for $200 you also get 20gig more HD! WOW! Yeah, ofcourse that really lame and all but I always wanted my iBook to be black ( using spraycans wasn't an option ). But since they have GMA950 I wouldn't want it anyway so...
