New www.chiptune.com preview !

category: general [glöplog]
it finally works here. this is probably one of the most cool and innovative (sic =) navigations i've seen for quite some time.

the only downside i've noticed is the loading glitches and the fact that it makes ff hang for some seconds ..
plus, the cut-off file endings appear as 'ý' here =)

I have to replace the hardcoded character by a chr(ascii_code) instead ! =)

CRAZY!

specially the 100% javascript part, knowing how javascript is such a headache compared to easy server-side php :>

rez: as AJAX is a brandnew stuff that some people are trying to push ahead, there are probably some AJAX compos around and you should enter one :) that would make a nice advertisement for chiptune.com ;)

rez, seems like a more conform character now.

rez: that's nice :) Will there be a non-AJAX fallback for the site though? My personal pet peeve with AJAX is the complete lack of degradation.

Rez: You've come a long way baby. It's nice to see Chiptune v3 live. Is it easy for you to skin the whole thing ? Could be nice to add wallpapers, or better to change that WorkBench into a GEM or a NeXT OS...

Zest: FYI AJAX is just a buzz word. Any web developper have done asynchronous applications in the late 90's. But yeah, JavaScript becomes tricky when you do OOP with inheritance and mix private/public methods/members. Not that you need that in your every day projects :p

p01: btw, i will need your help regarding xmlHttpRequest because sometimes the data aren't loaded when the page update, so i got some errors or empty windows :(

please help your little old pal Mr. Javascript Master !

rez : I used to have similar bugs with ajax code at work until i decided to make use of the "Ajax.Request" object of the open-source mit-licensed "prototype" library : http://prototype.conio.net/

It's documented here : http://wiki.script.aculo.us/scriptaculous/show/Prototype and here : http://www.sergiopereira.com/articles/prototype.js.html

It's not much of a hassle to use, only one .js file to include.
I found it very helpful. It's a nice basic toolkit for many js/ajax basic operations, it's rather browser agnostic (works on ie, firefox and safari iirc), and makes js oo programming easier.

I wouldn't do any more ajax coding without it since then.

Lose the scanlines! Please lose the scanlines! (or at least make the scanlines 50% brightness instead of black. Why oh why don't emulators do that?)

Impressive! :]

But there's something wrong.. I didn't manage to run Speedball 2, fix it now!

I think it's lame. The old design was great and original, now you joined the club of the thousand sites that copy the Workbench look.

Lose the scanlines at least.

In Opera it seems not to work, but in MSIE it does. I like it!
Rez, did you code the juggler yourself, too?
added on the 2006-04-28 20:41:24 by Adok Adok
Adok: which version of Opera ? I've no problem with an internal build ( 8303 ) few weeks prior to Opera 9 beta.

Come on, the juggler is just an animation stripe.

p01: Opera 8
Hehe, I noticed just now that you actually spell god with an r, an e and a z.

p01:
Version 8.51
Build 7712
Platform Win32
System Windows XP

Java Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.5
XHTML+Voice Plug-in not loaded

The juggler looks good, that's why I'd like to congratulate Rez for coding this, but I don't know if he coded it...
