PPC excluded from BP

category: general [glöplog]
Only found out from reading JP, but curious about your thoughts.

On the downside, there have been some high quality PPC releases at past BP and MS events and these will be missed.

However, the only real PPC contributors worth mentioning are Mawi and that's hardly worthy of a competition. Also, it really is an unfair advantage to place them in the same comp as AGA entries, so I understand and agree with the organisers' decision. They are under no obligation to support failed platforms or else they'd have to include Falcon, CDI and god knows what other platforms to be fair.

I just wish those stubborn Amiga zealots would swallow their pride and come join the PC scene. It would make their scene lives more enjoyable I'm sure and would breathe some life back into the PC scene.
i find the amiga scene quite a refreshing spot in the demoscene, just as other oldschool platforms. it's boring to watch PC demos all the time, and amiga prods are usually so magical.

and I think it was merged with "standard" amiga because there were so few amiga PPC demos. i might be wrong, tho, its just something I heard.

There's always the wild compo.

Preacher: Yep, especially as Breakpoint's wild compo doesn't have video entrys, but is "real wild". And especially after the fucking great real wild compo we had at BP2005, this really is a first class-compo, and a worthy one to compete with a PPC demo.

And after reading that crappy "article" by ghandy in JP, I have to add:

The bashing towards the Breakpoint Team from some people inside the Amiga scene really sucks.

ESPECIALLY as 50% of the Amiga scene tells us that all Amiga types should be one compo, because else we are evil PC nazis, and the other 50% tell us that the various Amiga hardware types aren't comparable, and placing them in one compo makes us evil PC nazis.

See this:
http://breakpoint.untergrund.net/survey2005.php
(Question 19).

Don't you agree it's insane to blame us that the Amiga scene can't make up their mind?

We didn't have PPC entries last year, no PPC entries got announced for this year, the only *stable* compo Amiga we could get our hands on is non-PPC, during the last years PPC entries commonly didn't run on the PPC compomachine, and finally a real slight majority of the scene thinks that a 68k-only compo is best.

Oh yeah, not to forget: For the last years, exactly ZERO amiga sceners have offered joining the Breakpoint organizing team. Compare this with the C64 scene - this year we got 4 well respected c64 sceners in the team, that will make sure their hardware platform gets the care it deserves.

So, the reason why the Amiga compo is run by a PC scener (Ghandy also flamed us about that) simply is that there seems to be not a single active Amiga scener left in Germany who's willing to HELP instead of just complaining.

We are really trying our very best to support the Amiga scene. Maybe the Amiga scene should try supporting themselves as hard as we do ;)

Well, I as an Amiga scener have actually no problem that there will be no PPC demos allowed in the Amiga compo at BP since I still think PPC != Amiga anyway! :)

(most) PC users * never * understood the amiga scene. Too complex.

that complexity is the same as "complex" women, isn't it ;)

things like the amiga scene, is stuff i dont want to "understand"

statments like that proves that im still relativly sane.

allowing ppc in a compo at easter is like nailing an amiga to the cross
pete, you seem to have a nailing complex...

A M I G A A A A ! ! ! ! !

whats up with the amiga scene? :) pete: lol.
I really think the real-wild compo is the place for ppc demos, total different architecture.. unless there was a load of PPC entries, this is the only place for it, take example GBA and other ARM handhelds, if there was enough entries there could be a reason for a separate compo.. but its in the wild, i think, i hope im right.. :)

I think the best way is to combine PPC and Amiga combos, if only there is not enough PPC entries. Completely canceling a compo category is not necessery. But if you don't have a PPC or somebody to take care of PPC, then it makes sense to me.

Fuck you shane, its not about pride. Its about the fact that we enjoy amiga productions and enjoy making them.

In fact, I enjoy Amiga productions more than I enjoy PC productions. Not everyone thinks the way you do. Its not like we just need to "see the light", maybe, just maybe we like being Amiga sceners and releasing on the Amiga.

Oh yeah, and I have both a CyberstormPPC and an AmigaOne, and even *I* think PPC shouldn't be in the Amiga compo.

Its not like the real-wild compo is a bad one to compete in; in fact it kicks ass at BP.

fuck you wade.. i mean shanethewolfdog, or whoever you are

wow, shane JUST found out about this.

Shane is teh UPDATED.
I'm surprised people still nag about this. (and I'm afraid I've fed the trolls just by posting in a thread started by Shane...)

Yup. But in fact I think the last sentence shows what this thread is about (just like Slummy said): I just wish those stubborn Amiga zealots would swallow their pride and come join the PC scene. It would make their scene lives more enjoyable I'm sure and would breathe some life back into the PC scene.

After my last flame with some nice insults I was hoping that the clues are served. Oh well... Anyway, without either reading the article itself or scamps post I somehow knew it's again just the random bashing and not an article from a demomaker. If you don't like BP then there are still a lot of other parties which are happy about Amiga contributions (there's even one during easter), there is still the console/real wild compo and there's still the oportunity to make an own compo (through the internet like the rushed metal compo or directly at the party). These dutch ninjas with there crippled PCs haven't complained about competing against a pokemon handheld (the just go on producing random shit for a compo without releasing it (thank god!), the ANSI/ASCII people haven't complained about the fact there's either no compo or only the graphics compo. They've just started to organize an unnofficial compo for BP, they actually make something instead of writing articles about how bad the scene is...

Sometimes I wonder how scamp manages to remain quite friendly while presenting the facts for the thousandth time. Some insults wouldn't hurt. :)

Gargaj: Shit, I was hoping someone would point out the wrong use of there/their and some other mistakes because I could reply afterwards "That means the rest must be right if you complain only about the grammar." :/
oh, read those JP textfiles.

A true Amiga freak will never release his ppc demo in a mixed up wild compo - that's a question of pride. And that's the reason why there won't be many Amiga prods at Evoke 2006 either. If you've done an Amiga demo, you want to see it inside an Amiga competition.

<AmigaZealots> OUR HARDWARE IS IMPORTANT AND NEEDS ITS OWN COMPO!
<RestOfWorld> Sorry, we don't really care...
