nytrik: develop 64k-alike generator tech for demos too? :) or a very good compressor? =)
(seriously tho, he has a good point.)

i think the problem is that not many productions went close to that certain barrier so there was no real demand for a larger limit..
these days demos should indeed be 100 megs, come with install wizards be 300 megs installed, take up about 150 megs of ram and access the internet all the time.. just like.. i don't know.. SONY FUCKING CONNECT!
The other problem is what the ATi and nVidia tech demos start to show us: The demo itself is MUCH bigger than a decent-quality XViD recording of it.
Am I the only one recognizing a disturbing development here?

heh, disturbing you say? i'd rather call it awesome irony!

OMG, videos are becoming smaller than demos, was EP right afterall? ;-)
And MP3's are becoming smaller than their tracked source files...
come on guys : would it be such a sin to allow 36 meg for the demo compo ?
ho by the way i forgot the alpha map....
And note that a standard HDR cross map is more 2 meg ( that s probably why bonzaj is worried about size limit ).
see you there :)

ehm, i've been making 50 meg xm files since about 2000 now :)
OK, I'll say sth in this limit issue, because I was worried as hell on last BP that we'll exceed it. Well of course we cut bitrate for music, made some polygon crunching, but afterwards I think that it was just a matter of bad engine design. After some modifications (like including generators), I had totally no problems with "Fianl Audition". I must say that small demo limit adds more spice to the dish. And resizing to 18 MB is just perfect. The musician will hide his gun to shelf this time :).
Oh yes and there is still ACC+.

What, the one where I alledgedly tried to make out with you at Tum?
Xvids typically have artefacts and crap going on, whereas the garangutan demos don't. But yeah, that's the only redeeming thing as of yet...
bonzaj : btw i found a way to generate cool HDR maps ... if you are interesed .. he he
640k should be enough for anybody. ;)

that's because you include 30 seconds samples of cheap r'n'b and porn music.

well, sweethearts and sweet tarts, the difference between THEIR demo and YOUR demo is that they have the "interactive" switch set to ON. So recording it to video doesn't capture the full experience.
I for one would like to see more interactive demos from the scene. I think they would be (stars) aWEsome (/stars). Take advantage of the realtimenessessess!
But of course if your only point is to make some small file look cool without compression artifacts.... well then maybe you should spend more time hacking vid codex.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(the above does not apply to demos of size 64k and smaller, which i think are a whole 'nother art, staves)

I think it's pitty if MAWI, who released alot of GOOD
demo in the past now must compete in a WILD demo compo. Not any respect to them I think.

I'd love to see an XViD video the quality of the ATI or nVidia tech-demos. Furthermore, I'd love to see a video where you can control things interactively (which is what all of those tech-demos are about... or targeted-to, anyway).
Nothing disturbing there... even for musicians, most songs are nowadays larger than the final recording (and I have examples where that is true, even as of the .WAV recording with no compression).
Yeah, this is the demoscene and we're not talking about professional -anything- here, but the level on the scene is kinda becoming pro lately (for all aspects).
magic, first read the rules of the god damn "real wild" compo before releasing your crapstorm. wild doesn't mean avi. there's a separate animation compo. having comments on a party is perfectly fine, but at least show the tiniest bit of respect to the organisers and read what they propose before you start to complain about it.
personally, i don't at all see the lack of respect in forcing an amiga ppc demo to compete with a gba demo, a mobile phone demo a 90mb half random pc megademo and a demo that runs on a fridge. for instance.
then again, mawi won't be making a ppc demo for bp anyway.

oh how sad, Magic....
they still have the opportunity to do a production
for 680x0 again in a scale of AMSB or better.
That would surely be highly appreciated.

magic: i thought you study/studied laws.. then you must know rules are made up to state a line so that everyone knows what they can expect and what they should comply to, they're not created to be bend up just coz 'they released every year!' ...
