When is the first time you saw a demo ?

category: general [glöplog]
The first time I saw a demo it was in 1993/1994 I was 4 or 5 years old and it was Second Reality by Future Crew In my older brother room there was a computer always playing it, like if it was a screen saver.
I was watching it all the time and was wondering what it was.

god you are so young :/

my first 'demo' i saw in 1972 when i was at Berkely University. A buddy of mine called Justin Krawowski made a 'demonstration of effects' on one of the big machines there. We had quite a laugh about it while we where drinking beers in the computerlab. You could say it was my first 'demoparty' too ;)

This is when I was 20 months in front of an XT 8 Mhz 640k ram I'll be on there until I'll have about 8 years old, then after I'll receive my Pentium 120Mhz with a 2mb video card.

the first demo I saw was 2nd Reality
i was about 15 years old :/
INC cracktro infront of some lemmings game, around 1993-1994? then the assembly'94 4k and 64k intros, around beginning of 1995.

In 89/90 on C64 and Amiga. Before that the usual cracktros etc.. Can't even remember what those C64 demos were, but on Amiga I recall seeing some Jungle Command musicdisk as well as Digitech & Deathstar megademos quite early.

Hmm, wasn't there a topic like this once already?

I didn't knew demos on CPC464/pcw8256 Amstrad arround 85-87. But I loved to run some games just for the FX, like palette cycling, smooth anims (strangeloop), fullscreen (tempest)
I've been amazed by the sotb remake, 15 years later.

I think the first demo I saw/remember was on a 520 STf. A Replicants 88" intro. (ok a cracktro)
The beautiful rasters and smooth big scroll.

The first big project I run was the TCB "cuddly demo".
Few demos give me the same feeling. So special, so impressive, so impossible, so @_@
;-)
(I like to add the great and uber smooth fullscreen 2D starfield on Arcanoid CPC version)
I remember eating wall candy and using an Acorn Archimedes when I was 4 years old, does that count?

I think it was something which came with a game-collection floppy on c64... at some point aroun 84/85.
I didn't like it at all, expecially because no game came after skipping several of those boring rasterbar showoffs.

I remember watching Cebit '90 by Red Sector on my old '2000 when I was about 4-5ish - what a megademo!

Same here (I only remember XAKK from the names though), but I don't really consider those "demos seen" since i dont remember anything from them. All I reckon is that I _definitely_ wanted to know how to code those.

Yeah, sort of the same, cracktros from games. When I was about 5-6 I used to fool around on my 386, opening all files in norton commander, so i incidentally watched a few cracktros too, that I can't recall. :) It's quite probable that I've seen the cracktro dipswitch mentioned. :)

I saw my first demos (cracktros, yes shifter, those where the same in those days :-) on the Atari ST of a friend of mine first somewhere around '88/'89. I can't remember which ones I saw but I do remember that my friend was getting quite pissed of me because I wanted to play them over and over again so I guess the virus immediately had catched me ;-)

And then I saw the Union Demo and knew that there was no way back :-)

can't really say that. in the late 80s my father used to have an atari and used to run some stuff on it with copperbars, scrollers and stuff. but i cant really remember what it was. the first pc demo could have been second reality, but the first one that really influented me and made me think "hey i wanna do that too" was Textro by OTM and some other dos demo i can't recall.
