gloom: that's so great!! thanksk!!
trace: glad you like it. :) btw; some of the tunes in the demoscene-mix are of a crappy quality (one tune is from the avi-capture of the demo - it's bad but i couldn't find the original track anywhere) but i'm sure you'll live.
oh - and this seems like a good enough place as any to mention it - i'm working on a demoscene dj-mix double-cd. i've done some test-mixes (the "balders_bursdagsmix" was the absolute first test of tune-compatibility) but what i really need is a shitload of suggestions - preferably of demos/tunes that i can get in touch with the original author(s) AND that exist as a MOD/MP3 separate from the demo itself.
i will then go though them all, select the best tunes, test the tune-order/mixing-compatibility, loose some of the tunes, get some new suggestions, try them, loose contact with the authors, exchange those tunes, do some royalty-battling because someone used rips from commercial tunes, get some new tunes then start pretty much all over again.
after i've done that for a while i might actually end up with some decent tracks and an agreement with the original author(s) - then the fun begins.. i'll remaster the tracks (modules will be split up into separate tracks for each sample/track and remixed in 48khz 24bits quality) and do the actual mix.
..then i'll do it again.
..and again.
..and all over again, until i'm satisfied (might take a while)
then i'll need someone to do the artwork for the cd-cover and then we're in business (i've already go the distribution and actual cd-pressing-deal alles in ordnung)
so - just a little idea-rant there. if anyone would care to join me in this little non-profit venture, let me know - bent(a)gathering.org

oh - and here's the correct link for the "ambient power" remix/remake: http://bent.lorien.no/ambient_power_(by_vogue_of_triton)-remake.ogg
\o/!!
ahh... now that balders_bursdagsmix makes some sense. Trace told me it was a "classics mix".. i thought it was an odd selection of classics :D
Funny tho, when i listened to the start of it, without really knowing what it was, i thought of the Tint tune. No idea why. But i was surprised when it came on near the end! Good work gloom, i'll look forwards to that mix cd!

woah gloom! nice work!
I like everything. \o/
I LOVE YOU ALL! LET'S HUGGLE!!!!!
Someone do a remix of Desert Dream...
oh, i forgot to mention - the whole "DOUBLE-CD"-thingie is supposed to have one CD with remixes/remakes in a DJ-mix and one CD with simply remastered tracks in a DJ-mix.
OR - one CD with oldskool-tunes (probably just remastered) and one CD with newskool-tunes (probably just mixed)
which would you people prefer btw..? just so that i have something to go by. each of the CD's will of course feature all tunes "on their own" on the CD-ROM part of the CD.

I would prefer two mixes, one for oldschool and another for newschool... or wait, better one for eurodance-medium tempo dance-typical scene music you know, and another for the more newskook break beat blablablah, so you don't have to outpitch songs and the whole will sound much much better...
I mean, remastering songs does not usually bring to impressive sound quality and in a certain way i would say part of their charm is in their old/poor sound quality. It happened to me when listening to the second reality purple motion's remastering that it sounded too neat and clean. It didn't make me feel convinced :)

one thing that really impressed me was a remix of an old c64 tune. It was a complete remake, but with the original mixed in from time to time. Personally, i think that worked better than most remakes.
A thing I would suggest for the mix is to keep the style similar through the whole cd. I'd prefer a whole cd i didn't like and didn't have to listen to than one with 9 tracks I really love and one I really fucking hate in the middle.

sole: purple motion's "second reality" remake was a complete remake, everything done from scratch all over again. when i say "remastering" i'm talking about keeping the original MOD/XM/whatever, just remastering it so that it'll sound better on modern soundsystems - checkin for phase-errors, doing a complete new mixdown from the original samples. i'm not going to change the tunes, at least that was not my original intent.
..but keep the suggestions coming - there is no point in creating a cd that no-one would want. :)

thank you gloom for hijacking the thread ;)
Did someone say hijack the thread?
