Searching for some music
category: general [glöplog]
Hi folks,
I'm not sure if this really is the right place to ask, but I'll try anyway:
I'm currently in the process of writing my very first demo ever (the
engine is more or less complete, effects are planned and half of them
are written), but I'm still in desperate need of a suitable
soundtrack. Is anyone willing to donate some music to a pour soul?
Just think how great would it be to hear your fine soundtrack in my
first crappy attempt at demo coding!
With sumptuous greetings,
Cohen/Wannabe demo coder

You could try asking here: http://forums.scenemusic.net
"poor soul" even, damn spelling!
stating what music style you're after and a contact link would be helpfull.
Agreed with PS. Please list the desired
... length
... style
... format / quality
... speed
and someone wil turn up sooner or later.

Screenshots wouldn't hurt either.
Thanks Stryx, that seems to be a good starting point. But let's see what happens here...
@ps & Gargaj:
I have nothing special in mind, really. It should be fast paced, not too happy-technoish and about four minutes long. The format doesn't matter that much, as long as fmod is able to handle it.
You can drop me a mail at ironhammer-software@gmx.de.

hi cohen: heres a 16 minute long .xm module
i think it was the second mod i ever did about 10 yrs ago
the file is quite big and i'm posting it coz i packed it out with samples so if you(or anyone) want to do your own variation or start a new song there are loads of samples contained in it....
if these are removed it will be only maybe 500k upto 1 meg
http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=347WM63ZD82OY0RILAQFGI9E30
if u use this song it will be interesting to see what u do with it because it is 'tantric' (vajrayana/diamonds)

Well, how to put this in a polite manner?
Concerning your posts here, I am a bit skeptical + it's not exactly what I had in mind. It sounds more like you looped the same part all over. Again and again. I'm not a musician, but one can certainly tell that this module was your second mod ever. Concerning the amount of crappiness involved, it is comparable to my first tries in OpenGL, before I actually started coding my demo in earnest. Did I release these programs? Nope, so neither should you with your music. ;)
(I'm nearly tempted to quote your mails post scriptum here, but I won't spoil the fun.)

@ppanth:
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it's not only that the mod contains the same part in three (slightly) different variations, it's also that each part in itself is extremely repetitive.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against teaming up with a newbie musician. (It would probably be a good idea.) But this is a ten year old song and it shows.
So, let me think about it for a moment. Hmm... No.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!
"in an obviously sheepish manner"
That probably means that you offered your work to other people as well, hmm?
Did you actually try to improve your music over the course of ten years? Cause I am searching for a musician, not someone who hacked together a mod a decade ago.

@everyone:
please stop using the @ when you adress people here at the pouet bbs. it's very unelight. "handle:" suffices if the person you wish to reply to can read.
this isn't exactly rocket science.

@kusma: WELL HE DOES
Mail me. cerror[@]gmail dot com.
@Mr Twist Laser: Yes, I know. But I ignore that. :p
OK, a different question: I remember a helpful article about demo design, but it seems I can't find it anymore. What I do remember is that it mentioned the "rule of three". Does anyone know where one can find this article?
