but its two frames where very single pixel changes. His gif has large areas of one colour, which compress easily.

But god forbid we grant new people posting privalege in an interactive online community, alway the same "newbies should be seen and never heard crap"

well it just doesnt fit with reality, there just has to be some interactivity somewhere for those of us who dont learn so well from passive reading, or else we just keep annoying everyone.

It's not about that. I think the demoscene is one of the most open communities I ever known of - even more than the teletubbies fan club - and if there are so many of us, it's because we had to start somewhere.

But this intraweb culture is so desgusting that any kiddie can demand for information without respecting some ancient rules about society, community, sub-culture, whatever you may call it.

Imagine that today I decide I want to be a rocket scientist. I find a forum about it and ask "hello i'm a newbie tell me how to build a rocket". It's so rude, so arrogant, that the best way to treat someone like this would be ship him to outer space.

In pouet, we use other resources. That's all.

Hey, i never said that it was good to ask dumb questions. I just said it was a good place to learn. You can learn a lot just by reading and observing people's interactions.

Barring that: ask people on irc, or in email, or via SNAIL mail. Yes, I said SNAIL mail. You see, the sceners still using SNAIL mail? They're hardcore and may, in fact, be more likely to discuss the scene with you. In addition, they have time between letters to recover from laughing (followed by the statement 'oh god I remember when I was that lame! Wait, I think I have a letter still that I wrote Kreator/Anarchy that is TWICE as lame as this one... oh shit here it is HAHAHAHAHA)

If, however, you get an answer that basicaly consists of the statement: "fuck of lamer" (in it's many incarnations) what you have is someone who is fed up with explaining what has been explained 301248140 times before. (this hour.)

Because the scene isn't explainable. It has to be experienced.

And part of that experience is getting the piss taken out of you.

Pouet is a bar. There are fights. There are drunk people. There are friends. And there is writing on the wall that's really interesting but you shouldn't take it very seriously. Oh, and there are old grumpy people you should probably ignore, because they might not shut up. Or they'll trick you into buying them drinks.

i think this is the only advice i can give to a newbee so they can withstand the obscurity and nature of the scene
