Great ! Thanks !
smash: yeah, but there are direct (and cheap) flights between london and trondheim (where i live) ;)
haha, you pimped the page so much that it got suspended \o/
defbase: too far even in the uk?? Its not too far for non-lazy , enthusiastic and active sceners. Why not support us rather than just do the usual uk lazy attitude thing!
You should be able to get coaches/trains from London to Exeter via Bristol which will take around 2hrs.
You could also arrange with other uk sceners to go from london together as I know there will be quite a few going from London anyway. :)

defbase: aren't you in New York now? Don't tell me they still did not deliver the damn visa?!
I'd just like to whinge about the location. Exeter is WAY too far from Italy. Please be more considerate with the location planning next time!
Having said that, moaning that its too far from your house, and that you might actually have to get a bus/train or drive more than 10 minutes... just think of the fat you'll lose making the effort. Maybe you can put off that heart attack for another 6 months? ;)

The site is back online - a miiiilion apologies from myself, I was foiled by my overzealous mail filtering and missed the payment deadline.
I'm working very hard on getting the full site up soon, so keep checking back. The forums are where the action is though. ;)

lol... seriously, for non-uk ppl, driving to exeter is a biatch. It's a big biatch. There are no motorways/freeways/autobahns out that way. Yes, I'm also lazy.
IMO if someone wants to kick off a UK party with success and style, you need to get sponsorship up front. Get some good cash in the bank so you can afford an event closer to London. That way you'll attract more people, with more publicity, making more on the door, meaning sponsors are more likely to give you cash. The small parties like this are good, but we need something like breakpoint...
keops, visa problems as always. may have to wait to 2006 now. sucks.

Defbase: how lame, you first told me about it something like 2 years ago :(
I know how picky they can be when it comes to obtaining a visa, but this is totally insane now.

M4, M5 - major motorways and thats it.. it couldnt be simpler, if you went up north of england that would be another totally different situation.
This party is going ahead, a party hall and networking is confirmed. Its not being kicked off, its reality - 9th - 11th September 2005.
And sponsors are being arranged as we speak.
defbase: There were 17+ Uk sceners at Breakpoint this year, where were you? :)

defbase: Sundown is what it is. I'm happy for every visitor that comes along and if it's too difficult for some people to get to then it can't be helped on this occasion. I think you exadurate too much about this. That said, I'm sure if anyone had difficulties getting to Sundown they could ask for help in the forums and we'll try our best to help out.
What matters most is the fact that it is going to happen. The UK hasn't seen a party for a long time. Presenting the concept to potential sponsors is difficult as they cannot relate to what the demoscene is about.
I've been lucky enough to get hold of a venue to host the party, and the use of a LAN party's staff and equipment, plus a loan projector courtesy of Epson.
It is a small party (100 people max), but I'm respecting the feasible requests of the people coming to party the best I can, and if I've acheived that, then I consider it to be a success.

COOL! I'll be there! Well getting anywhere in uk is easy, just get on a train/bus, I do it all the time.
I've just double checked and can confirm that a motorway has been sighted near exeter. Thats right people, THE M5 NOW GOES ALL THE WAY TO EXETER. I could make it there from my house in the grim cold north of england in around 4 hours, if i wasn't in bloody italy at the time of the party. Makes it perfectly acceptable if you go for the weekend.
keops, problem is UK have sent too many immigrants to USA over last few years apparently. So british citizens have problems getting visas, especially if you don't qualify for H1-B because you don't have a degree (like me)...
rc55 - what you need to do is to take potential sponsors to breakpoint or <shudder> assembly. Say to them, "look, this is what it's about - you can have this captive audience for yourselves". Oh btw, you say 100ppl in your post, but you were talking about 30ppl elsewhere (can't remember where).. Big difference in atmosphere and event - build on it.
Don't get me wrong, good luck to you all with it and it's great that you're kicking off something in the UK again. But IMO there's a big difference between what I think Sundown will be (a get together of UK sceners who wanted to have some fun together, a la Deja Vu) and a proper party.
devs, where was I? Running my company :/ ... so little time for scenestuff nowdays. In fact, I'm so busy I can't even finish typing this senta

we have a small party because thats what can be done, not because thats what we ideally want.
this is such a tired old discussion that has been held so many times already. to hold a big party you need to guarantee enough visitors to make the sponsorship worthwhile and to cover the costs, otherwise someone loses a hell of a lot of money and never wants to do it again. the uk _scene_ (and the foreigners cool enough to make the trip) itself would amount to around 100 people if we're lucky. so the other 900 either have to be gamers or general computer enthusiasts. if you try and appeal to them, you doubtless alienate a load of the sceners, especially foreigners, who would want to come to a small and fun scene party.
in future, after repeated success and everyone enjoying themselves, you can slowly grow it into a bigger and more prestigious event. but the simple fact is, we need to grow the scene here in order to make the demand for a bigger party.
so, it comes down to a choice - make a lan/computer party with a few sceners (see: dreamhack.. oh god), or a small scene party (see: kindergarden, solskogen and others). i personally think the latter has more chance of success, and is a good way of building for the future. dont run before you can walk.
every country's scene would love a party like breakpoint to be held in their borders, no doubt. but there's only one breakpoint.. =) and that party was built on years of success of events like mekka and tum, not just appearing overnight. and even they still dont find it easy to get sponsors to put up a lot of money, do they?
in other words, if you want it to grow, then show up, and stop whining :D

i see that the orgas are trying to stay nice to you hoping you'd show up after all, but i'm no orga so here goes: defbase, you're a spoiled prick!! who do you think you are to demand a well sponsored demoparty in an expensive location delivered to you at your doorstep? after years of nothing there's finally a proper demoparty again on your island and you start crapping about the terribly long 2 hour drive to the partyplace. if you really think spending a couple of hours to get to a demoscene event isn't worth it, just answer that your interest in the scene isn't what it once may have been, but don't start ordering others around to find sponsors. it's very apparent to me that you've never even tried to get sponsoring for anything at all. and, i can tell you this: it's fucking hard. a lot harder than driving to exeter.

besides, seeing as the "captive audience" consists of what appears to be either a load of people who are extremely drunk or else some who spend 3 days watching porn, im amazed they get any sponsors from this method at all :D
GET YOUR ASS TO THE PARTYPLACE AND HAVE A BEER AND WATCH SOME DEMOS BIATCH! TRUE!
..and dont forget to come to inerciademoparty2005

@defbase
Pah! You're useless! I drove all the way to birmingham from bristol to go on the Havok radio show, twice. That was a long drive for just one evening, and I did it twice. Plus i've gone all the way to germany for two mekkas and two breakpoints, and i don't even class myself a "hardcore" scener...
