If anyone has any pictures of me from the last night of the party I'd very much like to see them.
the party was eXXXcellent. i personally can't recall no single, clearly negative thing to nag about. except maybe the prizegiving, but they always are late aren't they? :)

For those who care (and are able to receive the german/austrian/swiss tv channel 3sat):

A report about Breakpoint will be aired as part of the "Neues" show on german TV Channel 3SAT this Saturday at 17:00. The report is about 9 Minutes long and of pretty good quality. More information in german language is available at the http://www.3sat.de/3sat.php?http://www.3sat.de/neues/sendungen/magazin/77815/index.html.

Oh, and it wasn't ours but 3sat's scanconverters fault the MFX demo shown looks messed up ;)

Oh I hope so. I have no real life, where I can watch that report. And I'd like to spot Dalezy in it and laugh a bit. :O Some day they'll interview him.

@slummy

someone should make a 96k game based on throwing bottle caps at you. Something along the lines of "buckaroo" ;-)

"Take it in turns to throw bottle caps at slummy under the BP main stage! Careful, though, you don't want to wake him up!"

@ryg: Between "Porno" and "Phonique" perhaps? ;)

@wayfinder:

I never said the preselection sucked. It's just that I get the impression that there's something missing from the compo. Of course it could be people just don't do very interesting tracks anymore.

I mean, I heard all of the music compos at BP05 and I can't remember how a single one of the songs go. (And I wasn't that drunk at the time. ;) I do tend to remember music though, especially from parties, so it feels like you're playing music that just doesn't want to be remembered. Or something. Anyway, you did get some variety in the compos, so I guess it's just that popular scene music doesn't stick well in my brain. Poor me.

Would be really nice if someone records the 3sat-thingie and does a avi of it...and tell me afterwards. ;)

Dr_Doom: music is always a matter of personal taste.
My personal opinion is ,that the music compos at BP05 had a very high standard of both quality and orginality.

and it´s a good thing to see (and hear) new artists rising like pinza.

Hmm, i personally don't see anything wrong with the preselection at all. I myself have always tried to make such tracks that have some kind-of-original catch or style in them - but still while producing - thinking a little 'pop'. I'm not into too serious "experimental" stuff, but it's fun to experiment in THIS kind of way. So what I'd say is: "try stuff out but keep it in the cage".

dipswitch : I'd like to hear your track, as you said it should've got thru the preselection. Still, even if it's top-of-the-pop-stuff you can't change the opinions of preselectors, whose hands of judgement this year were quite okay except for the mass of house tracks perhaps.

and thanks to Skyrunner, heh. :)

Dr_Doom,

We can only work with the material that people submit. We tried to find the most interesting, well done entries that followed the rules (an aspect we shouldn't forget - there was a track that I personally liked a lot but that was like 7 minutes long - wtf.). In my opinion, we did succeed, but if you haven't heard all of the entries we did not preselect, you will have to trust us that we picked the right ones.

wayfinder:

Heh, I did enjoy the compos, even if the songs were so-so. And I guess I like the executable music idea, although I'm not sure about putting coders and musicians in the same category like that. We'll see next year. :)

So, any chance of a REAL oldschool music compo next year? Hm? :) And by that I mean 4ch tracked and < 300k. A tracked compo that allows "trackers" like Renoise doesn't really have room for Amiga musicians. Which we find COMPLETELY UNACCEPTAPLE! NOW YOU WILL DIE!!! ARRRGH!!!

Scamp on TV ,wow! =)
A nice report. Luckily they didn´t catch that naked guys wrestling on the stage on camera! Would have been a nice impression.

I loved the part when the voice-over talked about "Arbeitsgerät" (=(the)implement) and the camera zooms on a chick. :-p

excuse my intrusion in this thread, but:

drdoom: what makes you think that renoise-users took part in the oldschool executable compo? =)
i counted 5 c64-entries, 1 amiga entry, 1 zx spectrum entry and 1 gameboy entry. can it get more oldschool than that?
let out alone the overall quality that ruled this compo, i don't think doing 4channel-mods would't really do it when it comes to size-limited executable compos.. no really, they wouldn't.
and yes, that compo sucked a bit. i'm still a tad grumpy about that, to say the lest. but we're talking taste, and i'm not gonna join the nosfe vs. wayfinder vs. ps vs. paniq discussion here. =)
