thanks for keeping the site up and running Gargaj and rest of the team!
I wasn't aware that there's a need for admins & moderators. If help is needed, hopefully there will be a public request for it. I'd guess there's enough site (semi-)actives, myself included, that are having interest to offer help to keep things running.

This site is one of the main reasons why I still keep making demos after all these years.
I'd hate to see it go away.
Thank you for your awesome work Gargaj. I truly hope new admin(s) can be found and we can get to 1 million comments sometime next year :-)

Havoc and all gloperators: I am very grateful for all you do. Like I said I wish you guys had a patreon or PayPal where I could reward you monthly.
Also it sounds like waffle wants to help. Sign him up!
Thank you for the work. boyc summarised it well.
It would be really sad to see this place close.

To give you an idea how things are going, just today I've been suggested by multiple people that I should shut Pouët down. (That is not my call to make, I don't have that jurisdisction, as I'm only the steward, not a stakeholder.)
I'm sure there are more people who want the site not to be closed or frozen. There is no point in even conducting a survey (especially since it is blasphemous).
I don't know the specific reason for your decision and I'm afraid to try to find out. But if it's because you're tired of working as a moderator, then maybe you should attract more moderators to do the daily work?
I don't know the criteria for being appointed as a moderator, but I, for one, am always ready to do some routine and thankless work :)
Thanks Gargaj for all your work! I didn't even know! Rmeht told me the news and here I am!
Closest friends: provide Gargajs wishlist for those that would like to make a tangible "retirement gift" as a big thank you! ❤️
Pouet is the historical entry point to the Demoscene and its unique flavor since decades and it is a testament to our culture. I'm fairly sure I downloaded my very first 64k (fr-08 of course) through Pouet. I think that many of us would happily contribute with recurring donations to keep it running. As far as I've understood, Analogue is the owner and if I read on the Mandarine web page:
"In 2000, Analogue started a project called 'Pouet.net', with the ambition of building a collaborative and open database centered on the demoscene productions."
The ambition was met, indeed and I'm grateful for this intuition 24 years ago, but I wonder if it is a way (like, a fundation or something) that could ensure a long term life of this creature, take donations and hire some professionals to maintain the website. Wouldn't it be a wise and farsighted move? 2025 might even be a nice date (after 25 years running).

I love Pouet.net because it has a nice compact look and layout that is easy to navigate and search, and is relatively concise compared to Demozoo, and I just consider it the IMDb of the Demoscene. It's all I've ever known of the Demoscene since I went on the Internet, and I feel that sites like Demozoo are just starting out, and many thousands of prods have not yet got entries on Demozoo, whereas Pouet.net has curated the Demoscene for more than 24 years.
Plus, I enjoy reading the millions of comments that are visible on the prod pages, a few to a few hundred on each one! :)

It's a rather capitalist way of thinking to assume that a job becomes less torturous just because you're throwing money at it - but you do get to wash your hands from the responsibility of the hard parts of community management, so you got that going for you.

Oh it's simple: At this point I fucking hate you all. The scene (not just Pouet) has been nothing but a constant source of stress, disappointment and misery over the last couple of years, and especially the last couple of months - all of it is not only documented here on the BBS, but also produced by you all, with no regard to any of the others. I cannot remember when I last managed to extract any sort of joy out of any sort of demo-related activity, I'm burned out to a crisp, and this thread so far has been contributing to it by reinforcing that while everyone acknowledges the job is thankless, noone is willing to admit why that is or show any degree of introspection towards a healthy community. This is unsustainable, everyone knows it's unsustainable, and yet everyone insists on having the same stupid fucking fights and tolerating the same stupid fucking behaviour, and at some point it's easier to admit that THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT EVERYONE WANTS and just step aside from the way of the bus heading down the ravine.
Thanks for all the hard work, and especially announcing your departure well in advance, way too often I‘ve seen people just pulling the plug from one day to another… I don’t want to see Pouet die but your personal health takes priority.

Few concrete examples – like what is the worst stuff – might help people to understand what exactly are you talking about.
it's like:
"Please keep shovelling our shit sir! And we'll keep on shitting. Here's some money."
which reminds of:
"I wanna save the environment but I don't wanna give up a single thing. Here's some money."

I, as a oneliner troll, am sorry for the shit you had to read, but still thank you for all your work on this place, Gargaj!

I understand it, belive me or not.
I am truly sorry you - in consequence - feel/felt it in such a way. I can imagine...
Good luck till the end of 2024.
Do what you really want to do... =)
Köszönom szépen for all, Gargaj!
All the best!
It's not that I think throwing money at the orgas makes the job easier, it's that I genuinely don't have the time or energy to devote to helping out with this site, but one thing I can contribute is funds, and if the people behind the scenes find that useful, or it at least enables them to buy some beers, great. If you don't want a donation from me, fine.
I also don't expect you to grind yourself into a burnout related breakdown, which is why my sentiment to you is thank you very much for your hard work, and I hope you feel better once you have some distance.

I also don't think the majority of users of this site get involved in or even notice the drama, or have their experience of the site ruined by a few dickheads.
That stuff is obviously much more obvious and stressful to someone trying to run the site.
So being mad at the users is understandable given the emotional damage running the site has given you, I don't think it's actually fundamentally fair.

Are there currently any plans for the site, going forward?

“The scene”:
We share a certain passion, created a culture around it and meet in real life at one party or another.
In between: life happens.
and also: death happens.
not to forget: assholes happen.
Ultimately, it is we ourselves who have to decide which people we surround ourselves with, who is good for us and who is not. Pouet is very often: not smth to surround with.
pouet has always been a "hard place", I myself was often part of the problem and not a solution - but i learned learn to deal with it and worked on that matter.
I refuse to focus only on the negative - which is in fact difficult to do as a pouet admin.
I hope you find fun coding demos, composing music and having fun with your groupmates again. without having to read a lot of shit here.
Take some rest, Gargaj. You deserve it. Also, eat something nice. Treat yourself. So long, and thanks for all the fish !
I can't imagine the demoscene without pouet. Quite honestly.
