Ad-ridden demoscene Youtube channels

category: general [glöplog]
Yeah fuck YT for being a profit oriented business! We all know infrastructure and software in general are free nowadays, the people working on the platform are probably also all unpaid interns and volunteers, it's just one big scam! It's quite revelation that my 100Mbps video capture gets touched at all when I upload it to a video streaming platform, it's only reasonable to expect that 3 minutes of content with the size of roughly 2.2 GiB gets delivered to the end-user AS-IS, just like god(that's me) intended! I don't care if you're watching my shit on a smartphone on your way to work, you better stream those 4K 100Mbps chunky bois right to your stamp sized viewport mah boy, no byte's gotta left behind okay?!

Luckily everyone Demoscener can upload a video, actually even three videos to vimeo, after that they'd need a paid plan tho because ... uhm its a for-profit business as well but fuck that just create more accounts then?!

"Okay bro but archive.org is completely free" I hear you saying and it sure is, it also doesn't have this useless hipster crap like "apps", I mean who wants to watch videos on their smart-tv anyways, tv's were never meant to stream shit from the internet okay, we don't even know of the long term consequences of this shit, think about it. Also this "discoverability" and "community" stuff that youtube has is totally overrated, if people wanna watch your shit they'll find it, ain't nobody ever watched a "recommended video" or something.

Okay I better chill the f down now because after all YT is easy to replace, as can be seen by all the alternative non-profit platforms that have gotten legit traction by now, and even if those are not your cup of tea (because you actually like to have something in your cup or a cup to begin with) video captures are short and tiny, like mentioned above just a few GiB per video, so just get a free raspberry Pi with a free 2TB microSD, a free domain and hook it up to your free internet and electricity, then realize that there's really no purpose in life so your time ain't worth anything (or everything depending on how you look at it it but lets not go there for the sake of this argument) thus setup and administration is free as well, nice!

Please learn.

This discussion is so 2009 and I like it! Also, ads can be put into demos beforehand so... PROFIT!!! :)

Arpz: your channel is really nice. It made me discover many intros or demos I did not know.
Each time you post a new video, I add a link to the respective prod here if it doesn't already have a video link ;)

kwikshot: I'm not offended on behalf of youtube, my post is a direct humorous hyperbole (aka sarcastic) response to Photons imho naive, partially uninformed and preachy message, the pagination kinda screwed me a bit I guess but rest assured I was rather entertained authoring my message, thanks for the congrats anyways, I'll save 'em for my birthday!

Gargaj: No, but that's not reflected in my message, hope you're doing fine tho!

There are still the problems that come from monopolization though. Usually, the price goes up (actual monetary price, or price paid in time sitting through ads) and the quality goes down (presumed degradation of older videos, although I don't think there has been any evidence of that so far?), because the consumer has no other option and they're hooked.

Absolutely, without competition we're at their mercy. It's hard to be competitive in a market place where the majority of the consumer base expects everything for free though, so I think we still have a long way to go in regards to customer squeezing until people are ready to embrace other platforms, if ever.

The classic strategy of big internet companies is to give away everything for free at the beginning to get more and more market share and then get more expensive when it has something of a monopoly.

So yeah, we definitely shouldn't expect everything for free, it's a trap.

I think the fediverse shows a good way out of this mess, having a lot of smaller servers that federate and are backed by donations.
To drag back the thread to the original point kicking and screaming, the Fediverse is great because if someone uploads an absolutely dogshit unwatchable capture of your demo to it, there's no way for you to stop them from doing it.

I guess you'll just have to defeat them in the marketplace of captures.

- Add all my tracks to youtubs ContentID so that I get notified when someone is trying to monetize on my music and gives me the option to take down their videos. Seems like a good idea.

- Now all content using my music have ads. Oh no...

you can't win on the internet.
