Assembly Summer 2022 - 4.-7.8.2022 - Helsinki, Finland
category: parties [glöplog]
All the nominees can be seen at https://party.assembly.org/summer22/news/assembly-30-years-awards-nominees without a login. I requested links to the entries to be added there so maybe they'll appear on that page as well at some point.
So no comments or complaints about the nominees? I'm all for not making pouet a polarizing and negative space (again), but some rattling of the cage must still be acceptable or the place is just dead.
I'll start:
Wow, no Starstruck 😮
One could almost think its something personal 🤔

Floppy toss? :)
Starstruck should be in there indeed...
I'm also missing Uncovering Static in the size-restricted category. It might be just me, but I still consider this one of the best 64k intros ever made.
The original goal was to have 4–6 entries in each category which quite obviously means a lot of quality stuff has to be left out.
There should be discussion and there needs to be some rattle. The concept of this whole event is to remind people of the wide selection of categories and productions made over the 30 years of ASM. (Everything from Amiga demos to fast graphics and beyond.) The goal is to get people back to these old pieces, to check the archives and pouet etc.
So thank you tFt for reminding us of Starstruck - the event works exactly as it should.
What comes to the production itself - is an awesome piece which I still remember watching with great awe back in the days from the big screen when it was released. (might even be one of the few winners where I voted the same as the results - what that tells of me *shrugs*).
Thou it's not our intention to describe all the pieces and if they were closely voted or not - I may say that Starstruck surely was on the list to be considered with good points and if the awards would be held more often, it would probably be on the list. Perhaps there should be more of these? ;) The events here and now need to be compact and easy thou.

If that was the goal, I don't see any need for actual voting?
Seeing as this is such an extensive award (30years yikes :O) you probably could have had a separate Amiga and PC Demo category (and more).
But I see that one needs to keep it short in these low attention span times.
Could have had more categories that are not presented at the award show, but published in a good old Eurochart Disk format type of thingy...
...ye..ye..ye...me and all my "ideas" when its clearly too late now :P Good work either way putting this stuff together. Hope many will vote!

Shader coders attention!
We are still looking for shader showdown participants for Assembly! If you are interested, contact me at IRC or Discord or send mail to compo-contact (at) assembly.org!

The rules (concerning stages) of fast graphics compo are for some reason explained in the section "freestyle" (which is for freestyle graphics compo). Some participators of fast compo are likely to miss those and in any case it's confusing AF. Hope it gets fixed.

Just here to give some update. This same will come out in the mailing list eventually.

Submitting an entry to an Assembly Demoscene competition
--
To participate in many Assembly competitions (and also to vote) you will need a Votekey.
Most visitors can find their votekey printed on their Assembly ticket. It appears as a numeric string of 13 numbers, usually right next to the barcode, in a format like "1234567890123"
Oldskool ticket holders have special Votekeys, and can get them from Assembly Summer Info Desk.
Take this votekey and register in Assembly Partyman: https://scene.assembly.org
There is a delay between when the Votekey is created and when it is available in Assembly Partyman. If you have just recently purchased your ticket, you likely have encountered this delay. Please try a bit later.
Some competitions do not require a Votekey to submit an entry. These are currently:
Demo and Oldskool Demos
1k and 4k Intro
Real Wild
Shortfilm and In-Game Shortfall
Widescreen
Tracked Music
The system may show a banner saying you need a Votekey to enter these competitions, but that doesn't apply when submitting an entry to these compos in the above list.
Voting will ALWAYS require the Votekey!
Good luck with your submission and thanks for participating in the Assembly demoscene competitions!

Funny to see Saint nominated as a groundbreaking production 25 years after it was disqualified :)
What does "50% Stereo Separation" mean for XM? I'd like to have pannings the way they are in the XM. :) Like, kick drum in the center, panning P0 = left side, panning PF = right side, etc.
Am I the only one who cannot find a schedule/timetable?
^I don't know but here's the schedule (may need some zooming backwards)

Congratz, well deserved
Thanks for a kicking and rocking Assembly 2022 for everyone involved. It was so refreshing to meet up with scene friends on a proper Asm after three loooong years.
Also I was delighted to see the shader showdowns in action there, gathering a lot of interest from the visitors. Many people who came to play or do something else at Asm came to me mentioning that the shader showdown raised their interest towards demos, and most importantly to start finding out how to make demos. Great job!
And a special mention I would dedicate to the widescreen compo. In one sentence: it was a huge success already! It really gives people the reason to come to the actual party place to see demos, and also to upgrade their home hw for wider screen 8). Super nice to see it finally happened, expecting a truck load of entries for that format next year :). Also the performance or worry of it to get your prod run there in 5:1 is not a problem. The effective resolution of the screen is 3840x768 which is only about 42% more of pixels than in 1080p. So stop reading this and go prepare your wide screen demos for next year there now!

I really meant to say one sentence of the wide screen compo:
It was a huge success already! ... :D
Now go and make your entry ;).

Free idea for next year widescreen:
3 Amigas..
connected via something. like parallelport to sync..
12 Channels..
3x060
go ahdead ;)

Widescreen is old fashioned. Young people want vertical video, so do it in portrait orientation. Or maybe as a compromise, diagonal.
The widescreen resolution is actually 8000x1600, too bad there's no capture equipment to handle it. :) Some prods that actually support that resolution, were equipped with video saver functionality and supplied as video. 500MB/s or so bitrate rules. :)
