The demo compo of The Party took place exactly 30 years ago :)

And of course all the demos released there just turned 30: Odyssey, Hardwired, Global Trash 2, Voyage, etc.

(there's going to be a lot of "30 years" celebrations from now on)

Holy scheisse....thats crazy to think about..... I wasn't there but just about got interested in demos short time after.....probably because of seeing Hardwired and Odyssey some time later at a friends place.

Ho my god "The party" was the place to go for a scener. I went on bus from france to the prty 2000. I must say i felt completly lost. I managed to meet the wild houjobb crew at their hotel.
But the best memory was : The product for the 64K compo.

Ho and during the way back the 5th speed broke down.... it took us 20h to come back.
I kind of miss that type of event.

The VHS camcorder's parts are fun.

I were there 1998 or 1999 with several friends, it was awesome. People somehow managed to bring huge CRT's and tower cabinets.

Well.. according to the official website, it seems I came 5th in the Demo compo at the first "The Party" in 1991 :D First time I've heard that !

Yeah I remember this party fondly, it was amazing, didn’t sleep much, and the demo compos was seriously great. At some point I finally got to sleep under some chairs, just to be woken up by a full hall yelling at a horse on the big screen.
Either way, great demos, great groups, lots of alcohol and great party vibes :D

Oh I went to the one in ‘91 off that matters.
I also attended the one in 2002 which sadly had turned in to a CS lan party more than anything.

ah I went to the Party in 1993. I remember watching 9 Fingers on the bigscreen and noticed Guys from groups Like Future Crew. Hanging around with the Other members of Animators was fun

I hear there was a big controversy when Hardwired didn't make 1st place, but Odyssey did. I wondered why demos shouldn't try to tell stories, even in pidgin English, when most demos just showed off effects. Obviously, the voters agreed with this idea.

By coincidence the danish TV tonight, suddenly had around 10 minutes of footage about Hardwired + TheParty!

It's in danish. No english subtitles. It can probably only be played inside Denmark.

Works fine from Norway! Looks like it's the same type of documentary as "Det svenska spelundret".

And of course, don't forget the party report by Melon Dezign! If you're watching the Youtube link, you'll miss a few screens and will need to hit pause on the rest. I love the sarcastic thank you messages, though! Seems Crystal, Silents, and Anarchy discovered the joys of wrangling more than 1200 16-24 year olds in one place. :D

@DanLemon: Eh, I'd take the results on theparty.dk with a grain of salt.. especially since they don't include a score or any other information. A couple party reports both have Horizon in 4th place and Anarchy in 5th, but one says it was 3D Demo instead, while the other doesn't give the demo name.

So nice to see recordings from VHSes uploaded of these parties! I wish I could witness Hardwired being shown there (and the consequent drama following after it was classified 2nd)

Wasn't there in '91 unfortunately - 1992-99 for me :). 1991 seems strangely eli7e still. Managed 4th (1999) and 7th (1996) in 4 channel compo, I recently rediscovered.

Man, the Party was THE party to go to, unfortunately I only went to 1997 and 1998, but have great memories of those! Mostly the power failure in 1997 that knocked out the entirety of Aars and the fantastic demo we made with a brand new digital camera which we couldn't enter cause we missed the deadline.

Still remember the the stories about the famous Hypnosis bus trip from NL to TP '94, which was such a mess that they 'forgot' to pick up 2 people from Groningen who ended up taking a taxi (!) to Herning.

I think Hypnosis even disbanded after the Party, because of all the trauma.

Good memories going there since 1994, after reading about it since 1992 or so.

I managed to sleep over the Amiga intro compo in 1996 with my first intro and only ever TP-release being shown on the bigscreen ;-(

I loved that party back then, but wasn't able to visit it from the start.

My problem was, that my car (Citroen 2CV) wasn't able to start during the f*cking danish cold winter. Each year the same problems... ;-)
