I can run most Amiga demos with no problems, but a few I've come across, namely this one:

refuse to start for me, and the problem seems to be down to the dbplayer.library.

I'm using basic ClassicWB by Bloodwych, and there seems to be a dbplayer.library already installed, but I wonder if the dbplayer.library in the demo file is conflicting with it?

When I run the demo (slideshow), it doesn't crash or anything, but it doesn't seem to run, neither. Where should dbplayer.library be?

What can I do to resolve this?

not an amiga expert but i would try booting with another workbench version

infofile mentions requiring ahi v4 aswell, which i'm not quite sure what it is but i'm assuming anything named basic and classic will not have it by default.

AHI is a standard interface for talking to 16-bit sound cards on the Amiga (or, if you don't have one, fallback to a driver for 14-bit audio using Paula).

I can run many demos that require AHI for 14-bit on Paula, and last I checked, I have the latest dbplayer.library, although I don't see where the AHI version is. I installed the latest AHI and it still didn't work.

Demo works fine for me. If you really think that dbplayer.library is the culprit, you could try "assign LIBS: dismount" before starting the demo, in that case it should definitely use the dbplayer.library in the "appendix-c" directory.

Didn't work, just asked me to "Insert Volume LIBS: in any drive", then did nothing after.

Does the slideshow take a long time to start? Does it need any particular config or CPU?

Then something is weird with your system partition as the LIBS: assign should be there when booting from HD.



It needs a bit of time to start, there'll be black screen for a while.

I seem to have fixed the problem:

It turns out I didn't have dbplayer.library in my ClassicWB install at all (I was sure I did) so I went ahead and copied the file from the Aminet archive into Libs:, but it still didn't work for the demo.

Then I saw I had SnoopDos in ClassicWB, so I tried running it to monitor the disk operations as I ran the demo, and there was no file called AHI.prefs neither. So all I had to do was run AHI from "Settings" and then save, and then it ran fine.

The best thing was, the other demo I mentioned having problems with, "Kiss My Jazz" also worked.

So all that had to be done was those things.

I just found out I don't even need to install dbplayer.library, as it already exists in the archives for those two demos. I only need to assign LIBS: to the folder where they reside.

Except that didn't quite work for Kiss My Jazz :/

I found I had to copy all the "third party" files in the archive's folder to the DH0: root, and everything seems to be fine now.
