RIP TMR / Cosine

Yep, I know - I know. Pretty much all of my posts here have been along a similar line .....

But Jason himself was a very cool guy. I didn't personally know him that well, however, a number of my friends within the UK retrogaming scene did.

Before the last couple of years or so, he wrote (for a number of years) a column in the UK's leading retro gaming published magazine, Retro Gamer, where he would usually review the latest homebrew games and would also mention the demoscene as well, including demoparties. Retro Gamer itself was one of the very few mainstream magazines (at least within the UK) that mentioned the demoscene and this was a big hit for us, at least for those of us who bought and continue to buy the magazine on a monthly basis.

Your thoughts are more than welcome ...

I didn't personally know him but, after reading that article, I feel very saddened. In our current world, tragic things are happening to good people. My condolences to his family and friends.

TMR must have been one of the first sceners I encountered through the internet, back in the days of the infamous comp.sys.cbm / comp.sys.sinclair flamewars... He stood out as one of the rare thoughtful voices, generously sharing his expertise and [keen to bridge the divide between the platforms](https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=1676). Looking through his release history, it's easy to see just how much of a dedicated, long-time supporter of parties like Forever and Sundown he was. A really sad loss... RIP Jason.

Hi , I did post briefly on c64 site about doing a tribute demo of sorts.. just posted on atariage FB group, at a later time.

So figure he might be known to a few more of you here that aren't c64ers, since TMR did a fair few multi format things as well as the mag etc.

anyways, if you are up for contributing something (will be c64 format) , do let me know.. either here , but the c64 site... (i'm there far more often) . won't be for a while anyway.

RIP

as someone who actualy spent alot of time with Jason (in a little computer shop in canturbury [where he was original from], called Computerworld). i can only say wat a wonderful person he was. and that it had taken alot of things to bring him to the descision to give up

he was a type II diabetic, which was distressing enough for him. but also suffered from Asthma and depression. he endured alot of the latter. which he had suffered for many years

while i was incharge of slipstream he did nothing but offer great support, coding sevrel intros (on a8, and zx spectrum) and a demo on c64 called "Bus Noise"

he leaves alot of us truely broken, but we know his pain has ended, once and for all. and i look forwards to seeing him in the next life. we will hav much to talk about

RIP my old friend. now your spirit is set free

I first saw a picture of him on my FB feed related to C64... I was unsure then if that post was accurate and who he is? I get use to read nicknames, groupnames but I do not really reach out... TMR, sounded familiar. I went to watch on csdb some of his creations... impressive cummulative list!

Seeing his story.. what I found sad is the long-covid journey he went through with the up & down. I hope his story could help those which have or will have to suffer from long-term effect.

@F-Cycles TMR (Jason) was a coder and gfx artists (and even musician) on many 8 bit formats , whether it be games or demos and he also was a writer for "retro gamer" magazine, doing the home brew section of new games.

much of his source code for small demos is also on github to help new c64 coders.

it's not about some BS virus , it's about him as a person... he did a LOT across the retro scene regardless of format.
