The demoscene should merge with the game modding/rom hacking/lulz community to gain new blood.
Most oldschool effects are done to death. It is time to stop worshipping Second Reality and do something different/new.
An entry with old effects is still an entry. And half of Second Reality is the music. If you can make tunes like that, it doesn't matter what the effects are.

What we really need is more shader fractals with drone noise
Kb's SID version of the Second Reality soundtrack is better than the original, so much so that it feels like the REAL version of the songs, and the original is some kind of a "C64 remix". It's the melodies and chords, man!

When you meet new people and you're starting talk about demoscene as your hobby/best interest and you see their reaction...wtf. But I don't care.
the demoscene is probably something that made wider sense in a certain time, and probably doesn't anymore, really. outreach and trying to grow it again is probably pointless, and changing it to force growth would turn it into something it isnt meant to be.
it is what it is, and that's ok. accept it and enjoy it for what it is - a bunch of old farts doing what they've always done and still having fun doing it.

It's (almost) exactly what i mean also, regarding to unesco thing, which i have ambivalent feelings. Popular crap and so one and a great award itself.
