No one can force you to think in a certain way and everyone's entitled to their opinions, no matter how dumb or controversial or whatever they are. I just know that few years ago no one got banned for his kind of oppinion and his kind of worldview and even if he used strong language and no one gave himself the sheriff-star on demochannels. I remember that everyone was an admin in the irc to have the same rights. :) People only got banned when they flooded the channel or people decided together if something was harassment or not and not just one person?!

But hey. Demoscene seems to change. So accept that there will be headwind because not everyone wants to be as you want to be. This is democracy imho.

To me this whole thread feels like the whole lockdown situation really put a toll on a lot of people and we all need to hug it out on a real life demoparty at some point. <3

The demoscene is rough. Many people are rough and use hard vocabulary. Shit the whole world is rough. YES, that can hurt feelings. It also often hurt my feelings and I also often felt misunderstood. Whether we want to live a bit of anarchy or follow strict rules that impose on us to think 3 times about our words before we say them.

I'm sure it does look like that. But perhaps consider the other possibility:

* sexism and injustice DO exist in exactly the places that people are saying
* people who aren't middle-aged white guys have better insight into where that's happening (and, shock, stating that fact is not discriminatory against middle-aged white guys)
* when people report on their actual lived experiences and you respond by disbelieving them and accusing them of over-reacting (it can't be as bad as you say because I don't experience the same thing, right?), then it's not exactly surprising that they get argumentative.

i want to stay out of this fruitless discussion, but just one point, daxx: yes, i know hardy as a "nice and rough" guy, too, but i was there when the drama unrolled and i couldn't believe my eyes either. he was not just saying "something unusual" but openly sexually harassing a fellow female demoscener in a way that would surely have brought him a couple of smacks on the head if this had been an offline emoparty (and i'm not talking about "only" discriminatory language, but a very explicit and violent one). it's all in the discord logs of the respective demoparty channel. this has nothing to do with censorship or "sjw", but about normal human decency. i am really not easy to shock, but i was shocked and saddened. the ban was completely justified.
