What does Demosceners thinking about NFT?
category: general [glöplog]
I'm curious how Demosceners thinking about the recent NFT fever.
It seems there are a lot of demo'ish images, generative art video clips in the NFT market, and I've even found demos that are sold as NFT, for example:

How do you think about this? do you see this as a positive or negative thing to the scene? Will you sell your work as NFT?

NFTs are cryptocurrencies are just another sickening machinations of capitalism that contribute nothing to the world while wasting so many resources.
I think it's moronic.
Cryptocurrencies are the ultimate capitalistic commodity. Buy nothing, get nothing back.
NFT is more of that, but you actually buy the illusion that you own something.

@pengan to make the point about it being shit the same thing is being sold twice.
I would sell any of my demos/intros.
Possibly the dumbest fucking technological fad I've ever seen and I've seen plenty. Especially when implemented on a massively energy-wasting blockchain clusterfuck. I guess more environment friendly solutions exist and as for those, whatever, go nuts. But it's still paying premium for a URL with no actual ownership.
Another crypto-scam that is making people greedy, destroying the environment and bringing out the worst in people.
I mean I thought big tech was a disgrace to everything that was a technological revolution and innovation, but clearly we were capable of levels of stupid that I wasn't able to imagine - spreadsheets of grocery store receipts of google images put through photoshop filters stored on bittorrent causing a gold rush. Congrats, world.
I never found cryptocurrencies interesting, I only recently bought few dogecoin for the meme, but there are lot's of things I didn't like. My wallet in the phone did originally 4 weeks to sync, that's only when I realized and read about the huge blockchain and how much resources are wasted to keep this thing running. The next thing is, there is so much hype about how it is the future, it's going to be decentralized without government control blah blah, but... everyone's talk is "did you sold your dogecoin now it's 10x times more? Did you make some fast buck?". Everybody is glamorizing how they made (or could make if they didn't sell their bitcoin back in time) money out of nothing. This is what bothers me, it's money out of nothing, while nothing is produced. There is a glamorization, a grand positive sounding idea behind it, but everyone's going for the easy fast profit from it without producing anything. At least capitalism (whatever people thing it is) did produce something.
Now what is this NFT and why the hell would I want to sell my demos?

NFTs? Moronic, idiotic, dumb, stupid, stupid, stupid, disgusting. Like who the f*ck comes up with these ideas?
Cryptocurrencies or not, every time money comes into any discipline, everything gets fucked up. Most demosceners try to keep us away from politics, racism, sexism, religion, so please leave money out too.
NFTs are a reflection of just how completely fucked digital artists have been up to this point. if your available options to make a living out of your art are a) do work for hire as a designer or b) become one of the tiny minority (vastly smaller than e.g. painters or sculptors) who is able to exhibit in a physical gallery and actually sell your work, and for some reason instagram likes aren't paying the rent.. you can see how attractive it is to have a seemingly more viable route to selling your works. even if it is just to people who want to launder their darkweb drug money.
unfortunately, just like the gold rush, most of the ones who are making money out of it are the ones selling the spades.

That's the big irony of it - instead of "liberating" artists, NFTs combine the worst machinations of the art world with the worst of cryptocurrency.
It's all very 2020s. Personally I'd rather have the 90s or some future apocalypse. Just not this.
What preacher said
NFTs are dumb for reasons described by other people and it makes me sad to see artists i respect get into them (looking at you Oizo, though it's a super Oizo thing tbh)
This goes for all crypto currency btw, it's all a dumb tech lottery for greedy nerds.

NFT is bad because it makes unsellable things sellable. Allegedly. You even can sell this thread as NFT.
And what xernobyl said.

FFT > NFT
I have never buy or sell an NFT.
From my point of view is the same as buying an MP3, when the MP3 is avaible for free.
If you want to suport the artist, fine, buy the NFT.
I mean, why do you buy an mp3, when the MP3 is avaible for free?
Being the "owner" of digital art is something that I'm trying to realize... the reselling / speculation part, just don't make sense IMHO.
Again for me is like "I like your work, please sell me a digital copy."
It's not that diferent from buying an mp3.

Adding my carriage to the ‘NFTs are stupid beyond belief’ train. Cynical, destructive, desperate.

Yeah, except the small difference that in the process you waste energy and thus burn the f*cking planet. For no real reason at all.

True! Etherium NFT's are crap!
Just an example https://www.hicetnunc.xyz/ uses the Tezos coin with proof of stake.
Quote:
Compared to Ethereum, these numbers differ by a factor of over two million, between six and seven orders of magnitude.

It's just one option, there are more!
Also you don't have to "HOLD" the coins, waiting to increase in value, and join the bubble mania, once you have them, trade them for euros.
Coins are just a means to do a transaction, that's it.
