Assembly Summer 2020 will take place at August 6th to 9th in Messukeskus, Helsinki, Finland.

New in 2020:

• We had to make a hard decision to discontinue the 64k intro competition. But don't be sad, we have some new compos! We actually have more compos than in many years.
  
• We have decided to give also the coders a possibility to compete in a fast compo. This means Fast Effect competition introduced in the winter event is back!
  
• We are preparing a Pico-8 workshop and competition to treat you even more!
  
• This year you have the possibility to take all the joy out of our huge 40m×8m main screen and compete in a Wide Screen competition!
  
• Due to the wide screen set up in the main screen, the main screen is not pixel perfect. Thus we suggest to avoid scan line effects and other pixel based effects. The Scene Lounge compos are shown in a more simple setup and thus there shouldn't be the same problem.
  
• Oldskool compo is shown in Scene Lounge. We are planning a 50Hz setup there to treat you!
  
• Remote entries are allowed also for tracked music competition. Remote entries are allowed for real-time compos and Short Film compo as before.

A Pico8 compo, interesting!

I guess it's quite early to ask, but if/when Assembly will be cancelled due to the pandemic, are there any contingency plans to do the Revision thing and move the compos online?

We do have back up plans (note, plural) if things don't work as intended but it is too early to comment anything yet. :)

We have followed the corona (COVID-19) situation in Finland and even though it looks that we can have events in August, we don’t think all the restrictions will be removed by then. We are also committed to a safe event for our participants and staff as well. Therefore we have made a decision that we will reschedule Assembly Summer 2020 to be held on October.

The new dates are October 15th to 18th 2020. This is a school holiday week in southern Finland but it's also the same dates TRSAC is planned to happen. Thus we would like to hear your opinion on how to organize the event. We have been thinking about the possibility of having an online event on August at the original dates too.

The change of dates means also another thing: we have smaller space from Messukeskus to use. This means we need to cancel the wide screen competition intended for this year as the screen is just too big to physically fit in to the space. However, we do all that we can to have the competition on 2021.

To voice out your opinion on how we should organize the demoscene part of the event, please answer this questionair before SUN 10th of May. Your opinion matters. <3

I know :( And that's why the questionnaire is out. We didn't have much choices as the venue has quite a lot of bookings at fall.

As soon as we get the decision made. The survey is still open for today!

Sooo, are the Assembly demo competitions happening online in August or planned to happen physically in October or what is the current situation? I would personally prefer to know this as soon as possible to start gathering required forces for making a proper contribution to the demo-compos :).

Not bad at all in case the demo-compos are moved to October as having things shown on the big screen is really part of the real demo experience.

So what will happen? We are planning to have a small online event at August and the IRL event at October where most of the democompos will happen! We are currently discussing possibilities to co-operate with TRSAC so stay tuned for mor info! I'm sure we get something awesome out of this!

Here is hoping both the assembly and evoke compo teams will finally wake up and open their eyes to the insane amount of interest and entries at both Revision and Outline online this year for the sizecoding compos ;-)
