Revision 2020 cancelled - Revision Online announcement

category: parties [glöplog]
I would like to thank once again the awesome organizer team who pulled all this together and made it work! You are AWESOME!

Of course online party isn't the same thing than a party happening live IRL. I would have much preferred that but as the situation is what it is this was a great way to make the best out of it.

It was so good to chat with people in discord, voice chat and even video chat. It brought the sense of connection to this isolation. I still miss you and want to see you as soon as possible! <3

I was very skeptical about taking revision online, but it worked.
Thank you, everyone involved and everyone attending <3

as someone who stopped going to demoparties for mostly getting too drained, i didn't particularly 'miss' giving up on it, but, this halfway-inbetween thing felt weird and brought back memories. next time I'll just tune in halfway the demo compo on twitch again and bitch at everything that isn't fairlight, emotions, fuck that :P
best thing that happened to me this quarantine

Don't forget that will be a "Best of"-Livestream on Saturday, the 18th April, 20:00 CEST on Radio PARALAX Twitch-Stream. We will show some of the best demo productions in a summary on the original systems. :-)

You can find the livestream here: https://www.twitch.tv/radio_paralax
I would like to thank bod for the great support and the spontaneous realization of the shader contest, together with havoc.

Thanks also to flopine, iq and gargaj for the great show. It was an honor to make some music in the background for the three best shader coders in the world.

And another big thank you to everyone who supported me and gave me so much great feedback during and after the dj set. Thanks.

Dude, thank you so much for allowing us to crash your DJ set; as you can imagine the whole thing came together as a spur-of-the-moment improvised idea, so we were entirely rolling on your goodwill to let us code over your stuff :)

yeah that bullet dj set (and the shaders) were pretty awesome!

HardyReport on Revision Online 2020, happened somewhere on a sofa close to you:

WOW! I never imagined this to turn out that well! ;) Although i knew exactly who was behind it!
Given short amount of time to reinvent Revision and also my fears of Internet-Bandwidth turning it into a Nightmare i wasn´t looking forward to having a good time at all:
I planned to stay awake&code until deadlines, then finally sleep, wake up for competitions/voting, sleep some more, watch prizegiving, Done!
But, oh man, was i wrong! ;)

I stumbled upon a post from kb giving away a link to the demoscene-discord, while crinklering another version of my upcoming 8k was taking its time...
...so i went ahead and joined...and from there it got the Revision-experience i was used to...although the party should only start days later! ;) It felt like having arrived at the party-place way too early, but also many others popped up already...
...while others kept popping up all the time, greetings&virtualHugs all the time, the ♥ was in the fiber...
...once i got myself rid of talking to beloved people i met at the party-place, ehrm, the party-chat, i got back into coding, but everytime i had a crunching-phase i got back to chatting...too much fun to be missed...and i missed a lot while coding already! ;)

I submitted one of my entries at some point, eagerly waiting for a response of the Orgas saying: "It works!"...which never happened sadly, instead i got to hear my thingamabob won´t run on the compo-machine...so because it was a win10-problem, which i don´t possess/use, i simply "@gopher"d in the chat and so he fixed it for me...took him "only" 2 hours...some problem with DirectX itself! But not only he was so kind to fix it for me (hours-long), he also re-"submitted" again for me already and to top it off he didn´t make the deadline for his own compo because of this! I am hereby sorry for the scene, so we haven´t witnessed what it could have got! :/ I got an "its working...atleast on my win10-machine, aswell as gophers!" from the super-busy-Orga las and so i drank another 8 beers, feeling fine about having entries in the compos (my other prod got less time to finish now that i was drinking already, but..hey, it will all work out from here!)...resulting in me turning into the DDT of Online-Demoparties...being the most drunk and annoying person around! ;) Sorries to everyone involved! :/ ("Fucking bad-function fb(), sierpbroski" / "I am Coronholio, i need TP for my Bunghole, buttski")

When i woke up 7 hours before deadline for my second prod i didnt even fit my own door anymore to visit my toilet...my head was just supersized, you know! ;) But i managed to sit down immediately to finish the second prod...only to realize the fixes gophers made won´t compile on my win7-setup at all...so i went back to "@gopher"ing...so i thought atleast, but i stumbled upon a message from las (compo-orga) first: "altho your intro ran on gophers and my machine it still won´t run on the compo-machine!"... so i tried contacting gopher again, whom wasn´t available...it dawned on me: no intro from me! and no second release either! ;) I then quickly opened my first bottle of beer of the day to finally counter the hangover-effects i was going through and started Sofaworld again (i did so before, only to check it all out, leave some comments about how awesome this is, aswell as the same comments on discord, parking my Avatar at the campfire, where it belongs!)...which didnt start up at all this time...it didnt even let me give my credentials...redownloaded, nothing! I figured the user-limit was exceeded already!

Next i found was a message saying "if you manage to fix your 4k you can still hand it into the 8k-compo!"...me, not able to fix anything at all, not even the project compiling anymore thanx to win10-dependancies on a win7-computer, went like: "ok, i take the intro back then, will release at a party hopefully not happening on my own sofa in the future then!", quickly successed by opening beer #2.
And from there it was like a real Revision to me: I once again didn´t meet the Deadline, been too hungover/wasted/already_almost_drunk_again to work anymore anyway, so i let myself go...
...and here´s the SORRY...i cant remember much, but what i remember was like the real party would have happened! ;) (I am doomed once i start watching the Twitch-VODs with Chat running, i guess! ;) )

I read a message in #revision by luck, it was my good friend Streetuff saying: "Everyone come to the Bonfire, Spider Jerusalem is playing his guitar and it´s awesome!" ...so i clicked and "teleported" in milliseconds to my own homeplace @ every Revision, my beloved campfire...WITH AUDIO! ;) And i got greeted with splendid music and ppl shouting how nice it is, followed by clapping when a song ended! I had resisted to plug in any headset, but at this point ppl had realised i had joined the channel and kept asking why i was muted and dont talk back and so on...so i plugged one in, hassled around with win7/audio-driver-shit and after some minutes i finally could answer! We all had a splendid time until the next compo started soonish...but we all promised to be back at the campfire once the compo is over...and what shall i say?...they all reappeared...not minutes after the compo, ("had to grab a new beer at the infodesk!" / "someone got me into a conversation!" / etc.) but instantly! ;)
The best voice-chat-moment we had that i can remember was when we watched the 256Bs...i was just done with saying "this is the first time we can discuss entries this clearly (voice-wise...no loud music needing anyone to shout!) while they are running...may have to do with most 256Bs still don´t have music!", when Hellmoods Bomb dropped and i remember myself shouting into the microphone: "I was just forked so hard...the whole scene was just forked...hellmood WON! hellmood IS the Scene!" ;) Everyone else was lauging hard, while still in awe about what we all just had witnessed!

Another good conversation was about that Intellivision-Entry (iirc), where the whole Bonfire turned into a coders talk...i learned the 37b of "RAM" this machine has aren´t really RAM but just unused Registers you can abuse to read (and maybe store) some data...been too drunk to remember correctly, but i will read that up for sure! At that point of time i was like: "This has to win then...given the obstacle this machine is...but no1 realizes except of the people at the bonfire right now, sadly!"

From there it went downhill for me i guess...i remember talking to many ppl, chatting stupid stuff on Twitch/Discord, waking up superdrunk only to open beer #27 immediately and so on! ;)

The good thing was: When i woke up on Monday morning i realized i had to stop boozing, so i did, and i watched the prizegiving and then Steam drove us all home in "Euro Truck Simulator" on the Cologne-Sauf-Bus via Twitch! Thanx, mate!

Special thanx go to gopher/las/spiderJ/streetuff/h20

Pros:
- pRevision on Discord: splendid stuff...we gotta keep that!
- Sofaworld: Joining in the first time was like: WOW...i am here! (not "there"..."here"!)
- Being able to ping and get a pong with almost any scener you want at any time (most times it was even guessing if the person would be on, or even more: wild guessing names)...oftentimes dragging them to the bonfire/tunnel (voice-chats) within a sec...making it possible to discuss sth very fast when sth came up! (some ppl joined in for 2-3 sentences, then disjoined to party on as before...or even work on!)
- It all went as the real party, including delays in prizegiving, etc. (just without the bad consequences!)

Cons:
- Too much Input all the time...the many different chats where the biggest problem...i found myself in discord constantly scrolling up/down on the channel-list between voice-chans and chat-chans and irc-chans, clicking...then reading as fast as possible, maybe answering, then repeating! All that while "sitting" at the bonfire (voice-chatting) and coding at the same time!
- No1 was able to beat me up, when i would have needed it the most! ;)
- I miss reality404s liver!
proof of my Bonfire-existence @Revision-Online-2020:
BB Image
Please someone upload it into the slengpung-sofaworld-rev2020-gallery...i cant remember my pw and sceneid not used?, email lost maybe! ;)

P.S.: Yes, i am bald now! ;) Finally got rid of the decade of the last millenium i was born in, the 70s, including its weirdo-hairdos! ;) (In my Instance of Sofaworld i was pretty close to what i look in reality...including the long ponytail and almost black hair, which is deep-blonde btw!)
for the record: faxe drove the truck back home :)

and i wondered why! ;) (that one time when we left the street, kissing the poles... ...should have known couldn´t have been you! ;) )
All 53 videos produced/recorded during Revision Online 2020 (events, compos, seminars) should now be on the Revision YouTube channel.

fernbus simulator > eurotruck simulator when it comes to being accurate about the autobahn experience... it's also so tremendously shit in every other aspect, mostly that the people who made the game probably don't know how to make a game, that it's worth buying for your next 5711 corona-party trip simulation :)
well, not to derail. but...

<derail>

the idea of still driving to revision together with the cologne crew and then driving back was a rather quick one. like two days before revision. so i was actually first looking into youtube videos and was quite disappointed that there are no autobahn-nerds that basically have every kilometer of german autobahn covered in a realtime youtube video. i mean...wtf...this should exists...right?

so then we looked at some simulations, and quickly came accross eurotruck simulator which was kind of affordable but then took some "modifications" to allwo to drive around freely (need to buy own truck, we didnt have money at the beginning...yadayada...cheatengine) and also some mapupdates. but i also was "disappointed" by the lack of the A1 through the Eifel to Saarbrücken (i mean, really guys, it's one of the most iconic highways in germany...and i am not even that much of a autobahn-enthusiast) or the complete lack of saarbrücken in general. or no city-roads for any major cities...

...i'll stop this rant now, but really, car people: step up your game! ;)

was shitloads of fun though and it might have been annoying to actually drive for three hourst...but who knows ;)

ETS2 with Promods installed is pretty alright and realistic, but still, for accurate Autobahn experience... fernbus simulator! :D
Better late than never: That DJ set from Bullet was absolutely superb!
