first pass of Primitive Portrait, before I properly sculpted the lighting on the face and added the ambient softbox lights:



debug colors version of the final piece, each of the three light sources (key shadow light + two softboxes) gets rendered in a separate color channel, so I could tweak their balance in the post-pass without waiting for the scene to re-render:
