Scene Lounge at Assembly Winter February 20th-23rd 2020
category: parties [glöplog]
Scene Lounge has been present at previous Assembly Summer events and we decided to bring a piece of demoscene to Assembly Winter 2020 too!
We are not aiming to make Assembly Winter a demoparty - it's not that, it is a lan-party (and pretty awesome one at that!) - but we do want to introduce the demoscene to our winter visitors and possibly pique their interest to dive in a bit deeper! To achieve this, we are arranging some beginner-friendly compos and a miniworkshop related to shader effects. That being said, of course we also want all of you to participate and show these newcomers what's what! Aaand maybe even come by to meet them and share some of that scene-wisdom you've got!
Compos hosted at Scene Lounge during the Winter event are:
We will also have other program in addition to compos. There will be at least one demoshow and we are currently looking for more speaker(s) and possible performers. If you have an idea or if you'd like to come and do a demoshow/presentation/live performance/headstand contact rimina here or on irc (rimina @IRCnet) or Meea by email (miia.syrja(at)assembly.org).
Check out competition rules, program and more from the Scene Lounge pages!
Oh, and yes, there will be a stream from the event! So even if you can't make it to Helsinki in February, make sure to send in your One Scene remote entry, get comfy on your sofa and enjoy the show.
You are welcome to join the discussion on IRC at #scenelounge (IRCnet) or on Telegram!

Do you need to buy a ticket to remote-enter the one scene compo? :)

No you don't! More information about how to submit an entry (remote or not) will follow when we get some details figured out. :)
I added support for MP3 sound in addition to 4klang in Compofiller Studio. The prod will of course be way bigger than 4k, but you can do shader+music entries for demo compos like the Assembly One Scene compo. Here's a template project:
http://www.kameli.net/compofillerstudio/compofiller_studio_mp3player_template.zip
http://www.kameli.net/compofillerstudio/
The template uses mp3player.h by @lx/Alexandre Mutel: https://xoofx.com/blog/2010/05/21/playing-mp3-in-c-using-plain-windows/
I added some wrapper code (and fixed a bug) and precompiled the C code to .obj in Visual C++ Express 2010. The .obj is linked with the usual asm code. In the template project, the shader-minified and crinklerized release.exe is 2963 bytes, but music.mp3 is 5597463 bytes.
How to use:
- Make a copy of the mp3music.compofiller folder and rename it to whatever you like
- Replace music.mp3 with your own song
- Edit debug_mp3_wrapper.asm, set BPM and MP3_MAX_LENGTH_SECONDS according to your sound track
- Open the mp3music.compofiller file in Compofiller Studio
- Replace the shader, minify if you want, etc. and build your release.exe in Compofiller Studio.
- Win the compo

Only 11 days to go until Assembly Winter and first winter edition of Scene Lounge! I hope to see many of you at Messukeskus. I also hope many of you will participate to the compos! Keep in mind that One Scene competition is open for remote entries! ;)
This time we also launch a new type of competition: fast effect. In the fast effect compo you are given a theme you need to follow in your work. The theme is published at Thursday 20th of February 17:00 o'clock (Helsinki time). After that we have a mini workshop about the compo in Scene Lounge. You have until Saturday 22nd 12:00 o'clock (Helsinki time) to work on your production. Platform for the fast effect compo is Shadertoy. Check out more from the compo rules!
We got some updates for the compo PC specification so check it out!

Only few days to go till Assembly Winter and Scene Lounge!
We decided to go and make some crazy last minute changes and decided to accept remote entries to traced music compo as well as graphics compo! For one Scene compo remote entries are accepted as well. You can submit remote entries by email to compo-contact@assembly.org. Make sure to submit the entry before the compo deadline (the earlier the better)!

and probably your beginner-friendly, dead simple, shadertoy workshow also had something to do with it.
nothing spectacular for non-beginners, but exactly how it should be! easily the best talk/seminar of the party.
truck demoshow was also really nice, another highlights of the party.
"wtf is demoscene" had its potential, but it was somehow underwhelming. definitely needs a different format next time.
Here are the Tuplain entries in the same order as in the compo showing:
1. Panda IV
2. Uprocking USSR
3. Bunnic Park
4. Kids in NK
5. WindowsCat
6. Frogit ei jaksa
7. bzmbly?!
