FYI maybe it goes without saying but consumer prices in HU are much lower than in west-EU so even if somebody feels squirmish about the flight ticket, the rest of the expenses (lodging, food & drinks, etc) kinda make up for it ;)

It's because of the 4 letter local mobility startup rule: if you want to get a > $1B valuation, you must have a 4 letter name. Uber? check. Lyft? check. Sidecar? fail. Same story for the electric scooter folks (Byrd Tier etc). Ofo went bust for a reason.

Flight booked, very glad and looking forward visiting the party (and Hungary) for the very first time.

...ah, as I am attending FUNCTION for the first time I got a question:
Not that I actually think I will win anything there, but you can never know, so... is prizegiving really, like stated on the website, around 1:30 am on early sunday morning already?

I mean.. that would be AMAZING as our flight back to Germany departs around 6-something AM. So if prize giving really happens that early in the morning (even with a possible delay of, let´s say, 1,5 hours...), I´ld be able to witness it before I pick up my wife at the hotel and go to airport by cab.

(not an orga, but) yep, it's done right after the compos end a bit after midnight. at least it's been like that forever.

A little info for you guys, when you are in Budapest and plan on going around the city instead of just being at the partyplace, get a weekly PKK (public transport) ticket - locally called 'hetijegy' - for about 15EUR. The 4-day variant is roughly the same price, so you're better off with the weekly one.
Exceptionally valid if you're with the crowd visiting Thu-Tue.

If you're not willing to sit on the same bus with the plebs, Bolt (ex-Taxify) is still your best bet. We have no Uber here any more :( They operate at standard taxi prices but more organized and less risk of bullshit.

Lodging is also a crucial question. Factory Hostel Budapest is in the same building as the partyplace. Not sure about the availablity, but you can fill a tailored-to-function aplication form here and pray.
Apart from that, AirBnB is your best bet, or whatever recommendation listed on Function's website.
(PRO TIP: try to find something on the rim of the overly touristy downtown if you want to enjoy the city as well. So something a bit off-center, but not very much. Oh and probably avoid Buda - west of Danube - because that's inherently much more expensive and the party is on Pest side - east - anyway)
