or this one!

Glenzvector was very good, but vectorballs are also quite unique to the demoscene.

@ TheMechanist:

glenz cube circled by dot matrix font "International Demoscene est. 1986 (?)" ..

funny i was thinking about the est. just a minute ago, too. since the last lengthy spicy hot discussion about that, we can safely assume 1985, too, i suppose?
I was looking for a latin tagline also, but i sadly chose french in school, so... I couldnt come up with more than "Demo Omnia vincit" or sth like that. (demomaking beats everything)

@ BiasZ: currently, that general direction probably.

@ djh0ffman: that is the meteoriks award trophy? i am personally not so sure if for instance all the film people would associate with the oscar trophy - no comparison or even insult intended - especially not the independent film makers. honestly, it is the first time that i saw that trophy. but thank you for the hint!

@ maali: yeah that one was really strong for a long time.

Glenz is a quite unique to the demo scene, but it's a late addition (1991 or?). I think a scrolltext is more emblematic, or a lissajou of sprites (Sprites got a lot of attention on many machines, the aim being to draw more of them):

that is a valid point - but: lets look at the usecase here, for instance a basic thing like a sticker, there a scrolltext would be quite hard to visualize. also yes sprites and any advanced features that were used beyond their original purpose surely mark milestones. again but: the glenz vector, as of the current stage of "brainstorming" (i hate that term, actually, please excuse) the glenz vector can be easily displayed in a frozen stage and still it is pretty clear from the perceptual power that: the creator of this graphics has advanced knowledge of 3D-graphics and even managed to go beyond the first obstacle of simply displaying a 3-dimensional object. therefore _i personally_ favor it most, as of now, as a candidate for a proper symbol that shows: i am involved in something beyond the simple usage of a computer. i am not sure if it is time yet for animated symbols, but again for static displays such as stickers and t-shirts, it would be difficult to visualize. discussion very welcome, though!!

To be consistent, you should make two Glenz stickers, the top one being transparent and you must stick it on top the other one! ;-)

Intriguing idea :-) That way it could be an "old-school" base with an optional new-school add-on on top.

How about holographic? just a thought...

with one of these wiggle-holograms there could even be some frames of animation. i will definetely look into that for a "deluxe" option.

yeah, the scene points might at this point only be a "running-gag" but, - and i just wildly speculate here, just as an example - if really steps are taken to make the "demoscene" cultural heritage, and they succeed. (i don't want to speak of how realistic or good or bad that might be) i bet there will be some interesting effects. like if you can identify your "project", let's say "a gathering" that is clearly associated with the demoscene and then "prove" that it is of general public cultural interest you could apply for "funds". that would then actually mean that demoscene and certification are not very far from another anymore. since for instance some EU rules must be met to be granted the desired "funds".

at that point, also, some office people in certified processes with certified coffe mugs will perhaps ask a question like "well, is there an icon/symbol for that?".

this is just some very wild speculative fuzz, please don't get angry about it. but really, next to putting a sticker on your car or laptop (what if you have no group or dont have a fixed platform fetish) or putting a logo on your musical album or any product you make and just want to show your association with the scene, there are plenty usecases for it.

i don't say there MUST be some fancy pantsy symbol, i am just asking how would it look like. and "i am a demoscener" is somehow less cool than having an actual symbol for that (i call it symbol, it could be a logo or signet or whatever ofcourse.)

maybe after some initial thinktanking an come autumn 2019 "we" can come up with some examples that then can be downvoted, screamed at in disgust and rejected in anger before their inception, just like "we" use to show our love for things :-)

just some random thoughts on that.

Even the by design most disorganized group in this world have a "symbol" :-D (I wonder how that was created, actually.)
