Compo time!

Spent all day being sober, coding, and eventually blowing up the machine that was supposed to show the stuff. Still, some really good show still
<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
did someone say sober?

So the party is over; I hope everybody had a great time. :-) The YouTube channel is updated with all the stuff from Saturday; compos, lug00ber's DJ set, prizegiving. The upload is from a near-lossless recording of exactly what was streamed, mistakes and all. (Unfortunately, YT isn't always so generous with its bit rate, and I believe it sometimes gets a bit confused by our 50/60 Hz switches, so in many cases it might end up looking worse than the stream did—but at least it's not double-encoded.)

Some thanks are in order! First of all, thank you to everyone for coming; without you, there simply is no party. Thank you to everyone who chooses to enter the stuff you've been working so hard on at our party; thank you to everyone who's not even at the party, but chooses to do remote entry anyway. Thanks to people for actually respecting the curfew, and being super-nice when I have to go do the (normally thankless) job of asking people to turn down the music outside. Thanks to Cocoon for giving our stream encoder a run for its money (the disk recording spiked to 300 Mbit/sec during the entry!). And thanks to the people who entered stuff (C64 demo, 16:9 Amiga demo) that made our oldschool bigscreen efforts worthwhile—when you're putting in a lot of work, it's great to see it actually coming to use :-)

A special thanks to Ninjadev, who somehow found time to make an invite, bigscreen slide theme, winning newschool demo entry and a team for the basket compo (which unfortunately didn't happen this year).

I have photos from the party as usual, even though I was pretty busy with everything else. They will be coming online in the next few days.

Sesse: Hello! Is there some place I could download some of the original recording to archive them ? YT being YT means that some parts have audio cuts due to copyright claim (especially DJ sets)

I assume you're talking about the Logicoma set? There's a download link in the description.

Was a good time :) Btw: for me the stereo was too loud ay times: especially the ninjadev intro between compos and some of the retro demos went abit too loud IMHO (tinnitus much? it fucking sucks) I just had to go out then... Greetz to all old friends - was nice to see yall again .. Untill next time :)

Sesse: Oh I didn't see for the Logicoma set, my bad. I was actually interested in archiving the lug00ber set and the live coding compo too, but I don't want to bother you if it is too much of a hassle.

maeln: Try picking them out with youtube-dl? :-) None of them should have anything blocked by Content ID now, as far as I can see. If that's not feasible, let me know and I'll try to extract a bit more.

Also, photos are out.

In unrelated news, I love this hack too much not to share it anywhere: This year, we had the audience microphones hanging up in the air (pointing backwards towards the audience), and thus needed a way to get the signal down safely. (Last year, we used Ethernet, but it didn't work out too well for a variety of reasons.) We originally intended to use long XLR cables for this, but figured we could actually do it on the return fiber: The signal to the projector would travel out as copper SDI from the mixer PC, be converted to fiber, run up to the ceiling, be converted back to copper SDI there, sent through an analog SDI audio embedder to get the sound from the microphones (they were condenser microphones, so we sent them through an USB sound card with phantom power—only powered, not connected to an actual PC!), sent through an SDI-to-HDMI converter (with SDI loop-through) to tap a HDMI signal for the projector itself, looped back into the (bidirectional) fiber converter, and then sent back down to the stream PC through the same fiber, with both bigscreen signal and audience sound. A heck of a lot of devices to velcro, but zero dropouts and nearly no cabling being in the audience's way :-)
