Ok, fuck it, some more words. I had an incredible time this year, first time I didn't go *too* hard and actually was able to enjoy all days equally. Thank you all I had chats with (so many people!) such a good atmosphere and happy people makes me really warm and fuzzy. Especially after the Amiga compo, the love outside was incredible and it was a blast meeting all you!

Let's totally do it again next year <3

There's a few ways to fix this, apart from the obvious "put in more effort" there's a way to mostly fix the uneven frequency distribution in the hall (so we can even reduce the total volume a bit); I just have to beg D.Fox for a bit more budget :)
Like this? The Smaart from Rational Acoustics?

"Inverting" the volume for the music compos as in making the 2nd stage PA loud and the hall one quieter is an interesting idea.
+1 Sounds like a good idea!

numtek/others: Actually this exact thing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD3uDpYniXU

(but that would mean every speaker gets its own channel which increases the number of amps we need and thus the money we pay)

@oerg866: So did you find someone willing to take the leftover vegan patty? :)
added on the 2019-04-26 13:45:33 by fizzer fizzer
first time i wanted one of these veggie burgers, they were sold out and i went for one of these meatballs instead, which were DISGUSTING. Sure, it stuffs stomach and toilets, but nothing else. So delightful, when on the next day, i could bury my teeth in one of the veggies. YUMMY! ♥

@revision orgas: where can one see and download the photos from the photowall?

yes yes revision had been a blast again this year. even with the hall being already crammed on door opening. there just cannot be easter without revision anymore!

i totally chime in on the food thing. and i am not really motivated to head to town for food. yeah, call me lazy. but yes, i would totally appreciate some more different food things. sandwiches, noodles, mexican, you name it. some more variety would really do good.

as for myself i totally enjoy coding while playing pumping music, like shader showdown or concerts. but that's totally my choice. so i would miss the volume from the PA while the compos. but i would not mind having the second PA up to compensate for main hall volume. so yeah, give it a try. and in the end you cannot make it right for anybody anyhow.

the toilets were, for when i went for them, totally clean and fine for me. thanks for that service! but yes, please move the outside piss tower somewhat more distant. atleast i didn't get cheers from the campfire guys.. ^^

just the wonky wifi totally not did it for me this year. funny enough it worked way way better on my laptop than on my (android)phone. strange.

The second stage PA is more precise anyway bc it just doesn't need to fill as big a room.

@kb Keep in mind the specs of the building, though. As I wrote some pages before -- and from 1st hand experience as a "behind the screen sleeper" -- whatever is played on 2nd stage creates a significant bass reflex behind the bigscreen. It's like being trapped inside the bass chamber of a good old stereo speaker. So, folks sleeping behind the bigscreen might have to fight with exploding heads while the _screaming music_ compo goes on.
Just a caucious thought.

Awesome party ! I see that some people are inspired but I really can't find anything to complain about the organizers great work.
The only negative points I can find are my own fault. This is my second Revision. I have learnt from the first one and improved a little bit my experience but this year's trip was still not optimal. I hope and believe the third one will be perfect :)

I made a list of things I learnt and hopefully will put in practice next year, maybe it contains good ideas so here it is :

- Don't (party) go to bed too late before you drive there ! Have enough rest / sleep
- Make sure you arrive there before Saturday at noon max ! ( I will personally try to reach destination Friday because there are many thing I missed and it is a nice way to introduce yourself when you are alone and nobody knows you)
- If you want the t-shirt get it when you arrive ! Don't wait until the last day to get one (otherwise they won't have your size ^^)
- It could be useful to have a multi plug with you and why not an extension cord.
- Build some nice LED stuff , make some decoration so you can find back your "spot" easily.
- If you want to participate in any competition, finish your stuff before you leave home. don't expect to work much once installed at Revision.
- Stop with the easy fast food but instead take time to eat something good and different, try some other nice restaurants in Saarbrucken and also the vegan food stand! (next year no meatballs !)
- Make some friends, don't be shy!
- Just invest 10 or 20 extra euros and get yourself a better hotel room. So you won't feel like you are sleeping in a brothel with people fucking loudly all around your room (with paper walls) all night long.

Ok I will complain just a tiny bit ...You really should get rid of the meatball food truck ...Yeark ...It sure is cheap but I am sorry it's just not good. It gave me a bad opinion about the vegan food truck and kept me away from it :)

and I guess getting running water next to the infodesk might be difficult?

We had the running water at the infodesk :-) (our pipes are long and there is a valve behind the fridges) but I don't know how feasible it would be to offer this water to the visitors.

Other than that, in my opinion the music was a bit too loud at times but I also remember some compos where I was rather close to the screen and the volume didn't bother me that much.

I tried the pizza once - it wasn't that bad, but definitely not memorable. I never had a chance to get food from the vegan stand - the queue was always long. Maybe next time?

But hey, what an amazing party it was! Yes, it was a LOT of hard work (I'm still amazed how the main orgas can manage event of this scale) but it was definitely worth it and I'm proud I had a chance to contribute a little bit (also, someone had to miss all the Amiga demos so someone else could get a beer during the compo, right? :-) )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it :-)

Thanks to everyone for making this happen (and also for voting so I finally had the privilege of getting on the stage and accepting a prize!)!

Regarding food...you realize esp Saturday that next to parking lot is a super market where you can grab some “intermediate” food and use the food trucks for “main” meal ;)

I always enjoy the Ozan BBQ and the Schnitzelsweck... ok called differently in Saarland ;) but in mean time I grab healthy Pringle’s etc from the supermarket.

Beer I buy from inside the hall... to support Orgas. I mean 2,- EUR for a Karlsberg is not that much compared to Stuttgart prices or Scandinavia I guess. :)

The thingie was delicious!
I've also brought people delicious stuff that's easy (relatively) to find in the US but not in Europe. :) Just ask. (It's fine as long as I don't get more than 2ish requests or so, depending on bottle size; I'd have to re-read the traveler's allowance/import rules.)
The curryworst stand successfully delivered the worst fast food of the year experience again by providing untasty mushy fries. The ones from the hipster food truck were pretty good though.

But did you know that at this time of the year you could just cross the river and get some "curry frikadelle", "wurstsalat" and other typical German delights from the 60s for a fair price during daylight in one of the park beer gardens/kiosk/food stands?

- Build some nice LED stuff , make some decoration so you can find back your "spot" easily.

The ones I made for Slipstream, Nectarine, and SceneSat were EL wire and at least in the case of SceneSat I could have picked a brighter color... I think I can do better with "NeoPixels" though. (WS2812B strips) Arduino compatible chips that can drive these things are cheap. :)
It will be short:

- Fantastic party
- Fantastic people
- Fantastic oldskool compo staff (the only one I had to deal with)
- Fantastic veggie food truck
- Fantastic compos
- Fantastic shaders
- Fantastic weather

The wifi worked perfectly for me, but I mainly used a wired connexion :)

The only negative thing is the sound volume in the main hall, it was too loud. I attended Breakpoint 2008 and Revision 2012 before and I don't remember being forced to use earplugs during every compo before, those years I was even impressed that the sound was perfect. What happened?
@fenarinarsa then you went to different breakpoints or had just a proper alcohol level that filtered all frequencies above "fuck its too loud" ^^

As it has already been iterated a couple of times in this thread, it was probably not the overall volume but rather some harsh exaggerated mid-range frequencies. Maybe they are more painful to some people and not to others...
I happen to notice that the "loudness/noise" just didn't annoy me in the past. This years revision was definitely not louder than past editions.

Face it, we are all getting older and the way of how you cope with a lot of noise around you changes. I prefer a little more productive silence when there are no compos running and I'm probably not the only one (the audio noise during the party wasn't a problem for me at all a decade ago). But that's personal preference.

Nevertheless, compos are meant to be kind of loud. ;)

Indeed, breakpoint was far more loud than revision, especially at the front as bp didn't use line arrays which distribute their power more more or less uniformly to the room compared to classic PA which emit its power just from the front.

I got the impression too that the volume of the main PA at revision was a little bit higher than at the previous years but it was still acceptable so at least I cannot complain about this.

Things are different for the 2nd stage PA which suffered a little bit from mendable EQing/signal management which we already discussed.

Nothing wrong with loud compos. No, it has got nothing to do with old age. Of course it was "the frequencies", it was them annoying techno garbage frequencies played numbingly loud and repeated for hours. I wouldn't mind a small one hour concert of stuff I like or even dislike, as long as it isn't played needlessly loud. It is impossible to do things right with regard to taste, so I suggest to put on the best music there is, silence, at least sometimes. This would invite more people to finish their productions at the party, and not at home or in hotel rooms.

You go try to convince them not to play Party x Leben on more time. ;)

--

I'll echo that it didn't seem to be any louder than past years to me.

As to everything else, the party was great and I'm sad that I don't know if I'll be able to make it next year. :(

I also wish I'd had a little more time to do a few more patches, but that means if you got one you're one of 20. :) That's all I made. I was also quite happy to see someone had sewn one from last year onto their hat while I was standing in line to get into the party.

I hope I didn't annoy anyone too much with the Nectarine sign; I did turn it off during most of the compos.

Sorry if you missed out on the US candy. I took the remaining box and a half of Zero bars to the info desk Sunday afternoon so I wouldn't have to take them back. Next time stop by my spot sooner! If you have suggestions, well, let me know before 2021. ;) (Especially the info desk, to which I gave two boxes of chocolate Hello Pandas.)

I don't expect a huge lot for the food, so that was at least as good as always. Pizza wasn't exceptional but I don't think it was terrible either. and as always: currywurst!! :D

I just need to remember to leave the hall before 4am every day. I had a hotel room but a little more sleep would likely have been nice. Oh well. Totally my fault.
