best gfxcard for demos (latest generation excluded)

strange people indeed, but what the heck - it got me a really good gfxcard for free, so i'm not complaining. :)
shifter: pay for an ati-card just because the dutch-guys keep telling me OR getting a good nvidia-card for nothing? you tell me which one you'd go for.. :)

I want my AMIGA back.
So my GF4 ti4600 (it's a second-hand buy but sure it was and is still considered as one of the state of the art gfx card) is no sufficient to run some demos...
It's stupid to make demos which can not be run by a huge majority of sceners...

i agree wholeheartedly, which is why the cool guys (kewlers anyone? :) keep making demos that rock on "normal" harrdware.
still; more and more pixelshader 2.0-demos keep coming, so after a year or so of whining, i decided to get a new gfx-card, and when i got it for free... well.. no worries then. :)
the moral of the story? get to know some gamers - they are handy. :)

Yeah, let`s not make a demo...because Oxbow and Gloom can`t watch it on their obsolete hardware.
pay attention dude, i no longer have that "obsolete" hardware, so knock yourself out. :)
Gloom: seeing I opted out of a free Geforce and bought an ATI instead, perhaps we're just not on the same level of thinking -free ain't always better ;)

I don't speak for me. I really don't care about being unable to watch these PS2.0 demos. Because if I have to care for that, then I will become like all these consume victims gamers. (who are really envious of my GFX card I bought for a so low price... :)
I think these PS2.0 demos are just beautiful but I think it's too early to consider that everybody can make them run in good conditions (strong PS2.0 card, huge processor, a good load of RAM)

i am thinking about starting to use multitexture in the near future...
Ok, I bought a Radeon9600pro with 256MB Ram and I am preety happy with it. It's enough faster than FX cards in PS2.0 effects. As for problems, I installed the latest drivers and with most of stuff there are no problems (I haven't tried all of the demos, but unfortunatelly I can't run Beyond :(
I am not sure. Someone should have both FX and Radeon, to test whether his demo code works in both. In case I will start coding an OpenGL demo, I am planning to buy a cheap FX too. I originally bought ATI for the same reason, to try something diferrent from terms of speed and compatibility..

I currently did some testing with my Scovery-D1215 with a Radeon 7000 PCI card.
This card has a pixelshaderpipeline but only one techdemo (radeons-ark 1.3) seems to support it and it looks BEAUTIFUL!.
Are there any Demoscene-Products known, that use the pixelshaderpipeline on that R7000?

Seems to me that using theses shaders require 100% direct coding because they are not directly supported through M$ D3D... that leads to my guess that there will be exactly zero demos/intros that will make use of that one single "pixelshader" pipeline on the R100 gpu.

of course it is relevant, now i wouldnt buy a radeon 7000 but rather a radeon 8500 pro as it can render floors properly!
I've always bought Nvidia, even after that debacle with ASD and how they changed their drivers that broke a few of that group's demos.
fun fact, nvidia drivers broke a few Excess and Fairlight demos... how's that for a debacle, eh? better buy cards from S3 or Matrox next time!
