One afternoon I thought it'd be nice to listen to some tunes from real hardware while roaming around the house, living room, kitchen etc. So I dragged some Amiga music disks onto a USB thumbdrive, stuck it into my Amiga 500s Gotek drive and played the first tune.

Then I realized that the tune would not auto-advance but play looped forever, and that this is the case with virtually any and every musicdisk I tried .. I get why one would want certain tracks, especially those that were originally intended to loop, i.e. game tracks or very short tracks, to loop. But in a music disk this is really annoying if you have to keep your finger on the keys (or mouse button) all the time in order to manually click through the tracks on offer.

PLEASE FIX THIS!! Add at least an option to switch between repeat and continous playback .... else I'll be forced to listen to your releases on Youtube and that makes me and my Amiga sad :(

Get a copy of ReSource, load the offending binaries, check the code, adapt the replay routines to support song end detection and be a star. Just complaining on $random website won't change anything.

Or just rip the mods and play them however you like. A lot of them are probably already ripped by others and can be downloaded.

Time travel could fix this, but it could also break the universe.

It was rather meant to be a friendly hint for the makers of future musicdisks, that it would be nice to have a toggle auto-advance feature inbetween songs, so that one does not have to rip the tunes out of a prod but actually use it to playback and enjoy the files. I'm sure it's an easy thing to do and many listeners would appreciate it. Of course one cannot change all the released musicdisks of the past, but new ones could benefit from such a feature :)



Like many other sceners out there, I have a very big collection of tracker modules on the PC that I gathered over the years. Firing them up in XMPlay etc. is very easy. Usually, subtunes within a .mod are recognized and played back accordingly, too :)

However in this case, I wanted to check out some musicdisks I recently discovered by going through the lists on Pouet and Demozoo, on real hardware (just because it is cool to run stuff natively), but was put off by the missing auto-advance feature. I realize it also has to do with the scroll-texts, which one would be unable to read fully if the music skipped on to the next title. Like I said, a toggle-switch would be nice to have and is not hard to implement if you're a programmer. Some musicdisks already have one and I feel it would benefit many listeners out there.

Hmm I guess not too many people are bothered about it, though. In that case, don't worry about it, I'll just continue ripping the tunes or listen to them on YT :)

I didn't mean to imply that you have to listen to the ripped mods on a PC. There are native mod players for Amiga too you know. ;)

This! I really don't get why you'd make a music disk today without at least adding the option of auto advancing.

Chiperia supports that from issue 6 onwards.

Most of previous issues have original modules included on the floppy, so that's also an option.
