Suggestion for a new democompo!
category: residue [glöplog]
All demos that take more than 10 megabytes have a new compo-category:
MassiveMegaDemo-compo (>10 MB)
Now we have to divide Demos into different categories.
Why restrict ourselves to demos have only unlimited space?
* Example of Intro compos: <64k
64k
32k
8k
4k...
* Demo compos:
Demo
Wtf?!
Are you mad? Just burn a DVD and play it back on the Bigscreen!

Recommend: nitpicker compo, with rules so strict, your mama would come and beat yo ass.
Next time as coder, Im a gonna only code a DVD playback routine, hire an animator who use (3dsmax, lightwave, maya or whatever) and make the whole demo in Adobe Premiere Pro or something like this.
You're not gonna code.
rudi if it looks and sounds any good ima gonna thumb it!
rudi: just use those 10MB and show everyone what great demo you can make in it.
groepaz: maybe, after i have slept i can start codin'. will only take a hundred years..
Hint: UE supports video playback.

Well, just organize it and make it happen if you want it to happen
I also propose a new kind of a demo compo - a PROGRAMMER's DEMO COMPO. The rules are these:
Code:
- demo needs to be made by PROGRAMMING, not by using any sissy tools
- NO third party LIBRARIES of any kind can be used, with the EXCEPTION of MUSIC PLAYERS (Midas, BASS, FMOD allowed) and IMAGE LOADERS
- There is no public voting, but instead a JURY made of PROGRAMMERS will determine the results
- The emphasis of scoring of the entries will be on FRAMERATE, WORLD RECORDS and FILE SIZE
- The source code for the demo will be inspected by the said jury
- A bonus of 50% more points will be if the demo is written in 100% ASSEMBLER
- A bonus of 25% more points will be awarded if the demo is written in ASSEMBLER mixed with ANSI-C
- A penalty of 50% will be imposed if the demo is written in C#
- A penalty of 75% will be imposed if the source code is written in any interpreted language
- Entries in the compo can be for AMIGA OCS/AGA, DOS, COMMODORE 64 and LINUX only
- Entries that use HARDWARE ACCELERATED RENDERING will receive a deduction of 25% points
- Exception to the previous is that the BLITTER and COPPER on the AMIGA will be allowed and lead to no point deductions
- Allowed genres of music are : TECHNO, DOSKPOP and anything that's made with PROTRACKER on AMIGA
- Each entry must contain at least two of the following: PLASMA, A Scroller, Rotating CUBES, Phong Shading, Fake Copperbars, Ugly RAYMARCHING and REALTIME RAYTRACING
- If it is later discovered that the entry has received feedback from a DESIGNER, an ARTIST or a MUSICIAN before release, it will be DISQUALIFIED from the competition
- The author of the winning entry will receive a Microsoft Fingerprint Reader and a set of Slackware CDs from 1996
- The runner-up will receive a broken GUS Ace
- The entries will be spread on ftp.cdrom.com after the competition is over
even better: all coders get a soldering iron with 50cm of tin wire and get directed towards a nearby dumpster to find spare electronic components. the one who recreates Second Reality most faithfully to the original from scrap metal, gets a 486 DX2.
Preacher: very good list! i hope demoparties and organizers could begin to start using it soon. Also i would like to add about the music-genre part: ScreamTracker and FastTracker II for PC allowed. (and maybe Impulse Tracker). Also some of the last few tags are a bit so so.. Maybe you could add hornet to that last list..
Exchange Phong Shading with for example any type of filler routine. Because not everyone who starts programming would go directly to phong-shading, rather flat lambert shading and so on.
Just if some code-organizer wants to look at the sourcecode, one idea would be to make it easy, to have the polyfiller routine in an own file (polyfiller.asm, polyfiller.c, polyfiller.cpp) or something like this.

“This or GTFO, you don’t deserve to go by demoscener titles.”
