I live in Hong Kong for about half a year of each and every year until I permanently move there. So, feel free to drop me a line and if I am around I could make it to the Mainland if you're there, or better, you can come down to Hong Kong to have great time.

Long time no see!
However, I am preparing an exhibition in Beijing and decided to have a small demo screening at the closing reception.
(Similar stuff as in shown in Dresden, Weimar and Jena.)
If you are in town you are welcome!

If you are in Beijing ... tomorrow is the day.
Wow Breitbandkatze. Your Art? Too bad I don't live in China yet. I am planning to go around this time next year and work and live in Hefei / Anhui. Would be awesome to meet there or visit your next vernissage (?). :D

@ Elend: Indeed ... :-) ... however, next exhibition may take a while. Just drop a mail if you are in Beijing.
I can say there is NO active sceners in Chinese community. There was some sceners even a small group "sycini" exists around 2005~2008, and then it ceased.

For now, most Chinese people don't know what is demoscene and they are sadly no interest to it.

There are two majority reason to explain why there is no demoscene in China.

The first reason is stress of live, in China government provide almost no social welfare contrast to Europe countries, people has to make money to support their family, as well as saving for their retirement, most people have programming skill is much more prefer to have a part-time job or working overtime to make more money than become a hobbyist.

The second reason is the education, the education system in China is extremely pragmatism, there is no basic art and music education except schools in biggest cities (Beijing, Shanghai etc, but that kinds of art education still very limited) or the families can pay for private teacher (and in situation is still pragmatism, they want that student become professional painter or performer, computer arts is somehow worthless for them). And most high school student selected science(physical, chemistry etc.) don't have a chance to take arts courses since that courses is no help for higher education entrance exam (the "gaokao").

The only chance to build a demoscene community in China mainland is college/university students, they are less stressful than high school student and young professionals, the sycini was built by students, but when they graduate and start their job career, the stress of life stops them go further.

pengan: insightful comment btw, thanks a lot.
there is always hope. just look what Dead J did to electronic music scene in Beijing ;)
but by nature the demoscene is so inherently european, it didn't even really catch on in the US/Canada

Good news everyone, I got response from one of the earliest scener in China: powerwood, he did a short interview with me, also he provided some information to find other sencers, include the founder of sycini: sunnm and yxh.

Also I got connected with the wx, the author of "KXXT of wx" who also made the 3-D pancake printing machine in Tsinghua University.

I just got response from dwing last night, hopefully I can interview him later.

There some people working on electronic music in China, the Dead J, as well as Meng Qi, an analog synthesizer maker. But all of them are not recognized as a "demosencer" in China.

There are computer artisans, electronic musicals, electronic gadget makers, or even 8-bit computer hobbyists in China, but these community is fragmented and no "scene" to get them together.

nagz, psenough: I'm so glad to hear about there are some immigrant demosceners. Hopefully they can bring the "scene" into China (yes, someone live in Taiwan or Hong Kong also counts, actually in this and my last post, the term "China" is more about Chinese speaking world).

I'm living in Shanghai and made a demo with contribution by Evilryu who made a Mandelbulb AO/Normapmap for it. He is quite active on https://www.shadertoy.com/user/EvilRyu . He is the only Chinese I've met which knew about the demoscene. I believe he was introduced to it through IQ's shader coding tutorials.

Cool - as Havoc noted, all of their files are gone so if you could ask them if they still have their demos archived somewhere, it'd be appreciated :)

It is astonishing that in a Communist country, it is even possible to make a demo without being thrown to prison. My parents always told me: "In a Western country, everything that is not explicitely declared illegal is legal. In an Eastern country, everything that is not explicitely declared legal is illegal."

Adok you're mistaking China for North Korea ;)

let me elaborate a bit on that: apart from the great firewall (with a somewhat wonky set of rules) and state issued media censorship, the PRC is pretty much capitalist with 'red' undertones. To be fair, I've never been to China but I've been learning Mandarin for about 4 years so I got a plethora of stories about life there from my teachers, fellow classmates having scholarship there, online sources, chinese (ex-)colleagues and random strangers on WeChat living there.
