Feeling lost in the scene

category: general [glöplog]

I know that this is my second post asking for help, but I don't know if I should start with a demogroup, or alone. Sorry for all this, I just need someone to help me. (Again.)

you should definitely try to do something alone first, simply because no one will want to join your demogroup if you never did anything.

so just try to do a few demos, don't be over ambitious, aim for something achievable. they'll likely suck but you'll learn how to make better ones when other ideas come to mind.

most importantly i would suggest to attend a demoparty and meet other people, see if there are any projects where you can help someone.

And even if you do something on your own, do not hesitate to reach out to other people and ask for help if you need it.
There is one problem... I'm from New York. (One other thing, I'm not even over 18, so I really ain't that independent.)

Also, following tips people gave in your previous thread should help. Once you've done something, you will know whether or not you should continue just on your own.

As PS mentioned, having at least a vague idea of what you wanna do (and what you're capable of), may help attract some people who could help.

At this stage, "I don't know if I should start with a demogroup, or alone" should be the very last problem on your list.

Attending a demoparty is a good idea, maybe think about a trip to Europe next year? If you were to choose just one party in EU worth flying from the US, Revision is the very one. There are also some parties in the US.

But yes, generally just go with the flow. If you can find someone to work with, cool, if you can't, well, we've all been there (or are still there) and just did it anyway. http://wanted.scene.org/ is a good place to get help.

the first thing you have to do is buying a C64. the rest will come to you.

Btw, the prod you added on pouet is not available anymore (broken link).
Linking to a google drive is not a good idea :)
Also, when posting a prod, try your best to submit a screenshot.

This is the way of the scener since circa 2000 :)

most sceners started their career at young age .. most started alone or with some friends .. most just released crap the first time and often later too .. to become a scener is easy, if you want it .. just do it and don't think too much .. and I guess you'll find in NY a lot of people that want to code, just show them demos and maybe the join you ..

i guess asking for help might work better with an actual first release in your hands (or a WIP project) because there were many suggestions in the 1st thread you opened. make something so people can see that you are actually trying something instead of (only) asking for help.

and this:

don't waste your time and energy thinking about this and that without finding a solution. better invest it into e.g. code :)
