Dear organizers,

thank you this party and thank you for allowing remotes =) In 2018, please announce "pc speaker allowed" officially in the rules. It feels a bit odd, when the only entry with sound almost wins the compo, despite the current rules are forbidding sound, especially when i coded a similar demo a while ago in half the size (speaCore 128b).

...I would even think you should allow DosBox if somebody wants it (didn't you use it for Optimus's entry anyway as far as I understood the stream ?)...so there would be Midi sound also...because as far as I know that wouldn't work on the rufus thing. ...so 100% freedom for the 256 byte coders :-)

...and of course: Very nice party again from what I could see on the stream, some very cool entries and also thumbs up for the seminar from TomCat !

I tought the only rule is FreeDos and PC speaker is allowed. Otherwise I could change my entries and give TCTRONIC to Riverwash and SEASHELL to Function.

I think the original idea from Function organizers was to give full CPU power to the DOS entries and they want to run everything under FreeDOS and they were not able sound via the projector or via the stream.

But I've found the way how to adjust the mixer of the integrated HDA under DOS. So now PC speaker can sound on the stream in high quality without the loss of any CPU power.

The new layout of the location elevated the party from "fantastic" to "fucking awesome". (On second thought those two words may compare differently from person to person, but you get my point.)

from next year we plan to change the 256 byte rules to have 2 options : a. dosbox b. freedos or just dosbox or keep freedos.

Let me list the major problems with the DOSBox option:
1) Incomplete instruction set.
Limiting intros to only a subset of CPU effectively changes the platform from "DOS" to something like "3rd party software plug-in".

2) 10x-100x slowdown of complex code.
Simple code runs fast, but anything CPU-intensive is emulated at below 1 FPS even with highest DOSBox settings and dynamic recompilation.
Getting rid of complex intros due to slow emulation will result in drastic falling of overall quality level.
