Annual Demoscene Review
category: residue [glöplog]
Now that no diskmag for the PC platform is issuing any more, we have a gap. Future scene historians will find it difficult to get an overview of what happened in the PC scene in the years since 2014.
I am quite fond of the idea behind Sunray.
IMHO, it would be good to release something like this on an annual basis. It is not so important to have charts in it and reports of every party and reviews of every production, but there should be an introductory text that gives an overview of the major events and releases of the year, describes current trends, and then maybe a couple of production reviews and maybe also technical documents.

To what purpose?
Go and make a diskmag/demo/whatever about it.
I'll make sure to wear a ribbon for awareness.
never involved into demoscene, but for me is very interesting to take a look at.

but what color?
codercolors would be great
OMG! WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED THE LAST THREE YEARS?
I am talking of the basis of information for books such as this one.
"I guess you just had to be there."
Unnecessary. I feel scene org and shows like mdt9000 fill the void for such a thing.
i guess these future scene historians will do a better summary themselves after digging a bit into the data
My hinge is that Adok proposed that "the data" slowly disappears into the void of social media without curation.

ummm, what about all those prods / releases you've made. that's involvement, whether you like it or not.
Future scene historians will be busy with the gazillion of bbstros recently uploaded. That must suck.

Adok is still trolling and pissing everyone off.

Emod: :D
Sir: ^^

visy: but how do we KNOW g0blinish has made demos, if there haven't been any diskmags around to talk about them?!?1questionmark
Trolling? This is an absolutely serious thread. Also, I don't understand why this has been moved to Residue.
I can certainly see your point, Adok, and I'd love to see more review stuff, but...
I don't feel particularly compelled to put in the needed level of work to make something like it at this point in time, and it sounds like you don't, either.
If someone _does_ feel like putting the needed level of work into doing it, then hooray!
But I want a post by someone who's programming something, or compiling something, or writing something.
And I think that's the inherent problem. If you have a plan for getting it done (or money to pay someone to do it), I think the reception would be different.
(Disclaimer: I'm still a n00b (even if I've released more demos than Truck, now (yay!)). I wasn't even particularly aware of the different boards, much less what goes in Residue. And I certainly don't know what everyone else was thinking.)

LJ: Those are the articles i was talking about on 4sceners.de ! ;) Especially the one from 2016 KB posted has your name to be read quite often! ;) :D
kb_: Has this ever been translated to English? You know, I am fond of the German language, but there are many people interested in the scene whose knowledge of German is, unfortunately, very limited...
but true science is written in German or Latin!
Adok: shut up already, here you go...i guess you just need to wait for Analysis #2 to get released for the 2016-article!
The whole Prod/Site is exactly what you were asking for btw:
Analysis - Best of Demoscene 2015
