Phosphor monitor photo request
category: general [glöplog]
Hi guys,
I'm trying to create a green phosphor monitor effect, but I don't find any high quality macro photo well focused / sharp. I'm interested in IBM PC alike monitors, green phosphor better - not sure if there is any difference between phosphor colors.
Thanks in advance!

there was an amber version too
I just messed around for a while with my IBM 5151 and my Canon EOS Rebel XS, and this is about the best I was able to get:

I think the limiting factor here is actually the focus of the electron beam rather than the focus of the camera. There just isn't a whole lot of detail to capture. Unlike with a colour screen, there's no phosphor dot pattern, just a homogeneous phosphor screen.

Thank you so much reenigne! Your photo and explanation are really useful!
Found this on my disk, if it's any useful: http://fg.wzff.de/x/DSC00278.JPG
Thanks fgenesis!
What about Hollywoods sum up of the desired visual?
Unsharpness, clumpy, accumulating lighting and some very soft foggy ambient illumination of the glass as well as some horizontal deforming and strict vertical luminance separation (aka CRT lines) seem to be mandatory.
Cool Retro Term is a terminal emulator that replicates the effect you're talking about. It's Open Source so you should definitely check it out. At the middle of this page you've got a view on the effects you can tweak to get what you want: bloom, burnin, static noise, jitter, etc.
Thanks guys! I have enough info by now... I would call this topic as closed!
This topic wants you to make a demo about it!
@romancortes: you want to do something like that? :D
