The emotional burden of making new techniques

category: general [glöplog]
What visy said. I try very hard to encourage newcomers, as my post history will show. In this particular case, I would find that much easier if you would provide some evidence that you're serious, wizzz.

If you really want people to code for you, you are going to have to provide some kind of value in exchange - that's how the world works. If you want help under an NDA, that value will probably have to be monetary :) .

Man, this does seem super fishy. I'm wondering if this is another reincarnation of the recently banned bitnaughty.

Compare the writing styles between "Wizz" and bitnaughty:

Wizz:
Quote:
I'm thinking... maybe part of the reason Its hard for me, is IM DOING EVERYTHING ALONE? Is that it? Maybe someone else knows? I had some bad experiences with the development community (not here... it was full of very stiff and incompetant programmers in business suits, and I hate business suits)... so after that I learnt I was better off to avoid everyone... and just do my coding alone. I really was.

But maybe it's gone too far? I had some (many?) things better coding alone... but maybe the graphics stuff ISN'T it. Maybe I SHOULD try to share a new technique with people?

bitnaughty:

It's only because it's you that I'll explain myself - I'm NOT used to doing that, and with anyone else I would have torn their head off,.... anyway..... I didn't go to the Milkytracker site, mainly cuz I use Linux, and half these things are made for Windoze, and in fact, I don't even have a hard drive, I'm running off of a USB, and it's goddamn slow. On the off chance that it has a Linux version, it's HUGELY unlikely it would work with my distro, what with this package managment and that library, and...ugh! I'm sure you know Linux. On the fantastically slim chance that it has a web version....well - would there be a way to save files? :) Actually I don't know enough about Javascript to know that - remember, I don't have a HD so localStorage or whatever is out. I will NOT save on the server side, and DEFINTELY not pay for that, in case it does that.
In fact - wouldn't YOU know something about all that? - didn't you once work on a JS .MOD player or something? :)

But besides all that.......I'm not sure I WANT to! :)...? Didn't you get that? :)

Btw, I have NO intention of asking questions to you by email, that's not at ALL what I wanted it for....all I wanted to know was - what's the size of the Javascript gaming scene like in your country? Or elsewhere that you travel? Like, are there many people doing it? That's all I wanted to know... :)
Whatever bro...I don't see the point of a discussion forum where people refuse to discuss anything...bye bye :) And btw, Ruairi is not "cool" or "sensible", he's inhuman. And all these guys of course, but - .....whatever. Out.

- Capitals for emphasis
- Self-doubting
- No evidence of any technical effort
- Emotional directionless musing
- Ellipses used in rambling text
- Requests for help
- Broad questions

My eyes narrowed at the mere viewing of his post. And as Crowded House once most famously sang "your instinct, can't be wrong".

I've made my own compiler, language, and some major new advances behind this kind of thing. And a lot more.

are HUUUUUGE red flags tbh

Hey guys,

I really like making sandwiches... my friends always say they taste DELICIOUS but I never knew how to make the best in bacon sandwiches. I don't know ANY farmers and they are always rude and not willing to sell bacon by the slice. DO I HAVE TO OWN MY OWN FARM?

I need help getting a small pig and then I have to look after it... so much responsibility! Do pigs need entertainment? Do livestock need injections? It seems SO EXPENSIVE!

Maybe I have to move to Denmark to get the bacon, can anyone take me there for free?

I also need an oven but there are SO MANY OPTIONS... I saw a friend use a grill once but it's too much mess to clean up - I don't think I'll ever be as good as Gordon Ramsay (he is a genius who uses no milk to make scrambled eggs) but I just need help with the bacon.

It's all so very personal and I need to make my mark on the world. Maybe it's me? I don't know! I just need help to show I can make the best bacon sandwiches.

Plz help. then finally I can show you my ketchup technique!

By all means - move to Denmark! If not for the bacon, then for a shorter travel to TRSAC! :D

Clearly either a troll or someone who doesn´t know as much as he tries to imply!

Porting an existing Shader (what he keeps calling "technique") to ShaderToy is a copy/paste-job with like 5-10 mins of fixing small differences. Every ShaderCoder knows that.
So saying he has no time to do it and needs someone else help him doing that is complete nonsense and the opposite of what i would await from someone having invented a new super-nice-technique-everyone-will-be-using.

Thanks cxw. I believe everything you say.

Honestly... I wanted to post some video/screenshots.

BUT... life isn't about "just doing things because other people tell you to". It's about relationships. If people are insulting me before I even got started... I'm not really going to be put in the mood for posting anything.

I've been through this sort of thing before... "OK just do it, because a bunch of angry people on the internet are demanding stuff from me, I'll show them what I have to make them stop complaining."

Well... I proved them wrong, over and over again. In the end, it didn't matter. They just didn't want to know. I'm really burnt out on these kind of people.

Ideally, if everyone responded like you, or Ham, or at least there were like less than 50% of the people here being negative... I wold have posted videos/screenshots.

The people criticising me act like they are the only ones allowed to "be suspicious" or "look for red flags". It's not true. I can do it too. That's what I was doing. Testing the water.

Seems I was right. There is too much hostility here...

For example this:

Code:- Self-doubting (errr no? Doubting myself makes me bad? And I didn't doubt mself. I just said I'm not good at graphics yet.) - No evidence of any technical effort (because I was detecting hostility and I don't want to give anything to a hostile community. I have to protect myself too.) - Emotional directionless musing (nope. Actually it just means you don't care about or get the direction) - Ellipses used in rambling text (that's a cool thing. It's my style...) - Requests for help (ok so asking for help is bad) - Broad questions (whatever...)

Sorry. but I can't do anything in an environment like that. You have no idea the amount of damage peopl elike this have done to my life already. I guess It's back to doing everything alone... or at least not within a demanding and hostile community.

This is what I mean. It's just negativity. Self-righteousness... to attack someone who was only talking the truth about his own work.

Oh, for the record... I've never posted here before. It's my first thread. I'm not that other guy, but my points still stand... the negativity here is just too much.

You don't have to ban me... it's OK. I don't think I can stand this much negativity so you might as well have achieved the same goal already.

If by "Everyone" you mean "me"... sure.

I clearly said what I made was a personal style, that I loved. And somehow you turn it into "the greatest thing that would change the world", and then punish me for something I didn't even say.

I even specifically said "so that's 1 more style... so 101 styles instead of just 100". Does that sound so bad?

You are clearly ignoring everything I said, just in order to make me look bad. You are deliberately pretending to "make mistakes in understand what I say" in order just to attack me.

To be honest... by the point you've gone this far... It's over.

By the time I correct all the lies you've made... you create an infinite loop. You'll ignore everything I said again, and create MORE lies. Just trying to get more and more response out of me.

I'm sorry that the world has people in it like you.

Same procedure as every year.
Someone with a brandnew account pops in, asks for help for something that is only described very vaguely without ever showing it.
Then keeps putting a lot of time into rambling how bad he gets treatened here instead of investing 10 minutes to show what he´s got.
I don´t get it!

I guess all of those people are those that apoproach you in real life with "i had this supernice idea for an App!"
...5 minutes later, after simply browsing the AppStore for their idea, finding 20+ apps doing exactly what their supernice idea was, they see they could have atleast investigated 5 mins before wasting the time of others. ;)
It's a bit like Murphy's law, only for people who pretend to make new software.

Specifically on ZX Spectrum it seems that 95% of wannabe coders stop caring after learning how one reads the current state of the keyboard. Not because it is very hard, but because of the burden thing from the title, I believe...

I gave you the best approach/solution to your problem, taking only 15 minutes of your lifetime (which is a lot less than it took you to write all your wall-of-texts here!).

You ignored it and said you need someone else to do it, which is pure nonsense as i said then.

And now you are sorry the world has people like me!

I don´t get it as said! ;)
I am a nice person, helping out wherever possible! :p ;)

We are just sick of people popping in, stealing our time by trying to find someone doing their work they are not able to do because they have no idea how to! ;) We had that way too often by now...that´s why you get "hostility" instead of "help" by only talking and not showing/doing!
ah, a new wanking technique discovered. wow! please - don't show it!
My inner kitchen psychologist says that bitnaughty's problems have little to do with code. He seemingly believes to program some year-long grandiose piece of software is a benchmark for super-power-like manly intellectuality. Or something else he thinks he needs, but lacks. So he drums up this inner fantasy of being a miracle programmer, a misunderstood genius, that this community of middle aged guys with a weird hobby really needs to respect. But doesn't. And never will. And it drives him mad.

Fuck droppin' a jewel, I'm flippin' the sacred treasure. I'll bite your motherfucking style just to make it fresher!
There are people who can code.
There are people who can do music.
There are people who can create art.

Then again there are people who believe they can do absolutely anything...
...and simply enjoy talking about it.

There is no new technique. No evidence presented whatsoever. You should get us some cheese to go down with all this whine.

Dear Wizzz,

i don't understand your issue. Like, at all. To me it gets along like superficial stuff made up to sound intellectual. Can you maybe paraphrase your point?
