The Meteoriks Awards 2017
category: general [glöplog]
The Meteoriks are back!
Just like in the previous years, the Meteoriks awards set out to honor the best productions of the year 2016, and again we're striving for a very open process from the beginning by letting everyone submit their ideas for award categories!
Only the award categories of New Talent and Public Choice will be fixed, all other categories will be picked by the jury from a pool of proposals. And that's two places where you come in!
PROPOSE CATEGORIES
Last year we had great proposals like "That's not possible on this platform!" that we would not have come up with by ourselves, so we rely on all of you to keep our categories fresh. You can submit further award categories via the Meteoriks website: https://www.meteoriks.org/categories
The deadline for proposing award categories is Thursday, January 19th.
JURY DUTY
"We" - right now that is just the Meteoriks organizing team. We cannot and should not decide on the categories, the award nominees and, ultimately, the winners of the Meteoriks Awards for 2017, and that's why we need you to sign up to be part of the jury! You know you want to!
Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:
Still interested? Great, go here: https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror - and do it before Monday, January 23rd as that's our deadline for juror applications!
And so it starts! Head on to https://www.meteoriks.org/ and start participating!
This is going to be fun!

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:
- Decide on a set of 10-ish categories out of the submissions amongst all jurors
- Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
- Identify up to five nominees
- Choose a winner
- One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

Whoops, yeah, thanks for reminding us! Updated =)
Just one question, because last time I was a little confused ...
Is the timeslot for the submissions of the demos AFTER the proposals of the categories?
Is the timeslot for the submissions of the demos AFTER the proposals of the categories?
And do you think the category »Best concept« is the same as »Best storytelling«?
submitted a couple of more interesting (in opinion atleast) categories. it gets really boring to dig up a short list of candidates after doing it for a couple of categories though.
gaspode: i would assume best storytelling is for demos with actual storylines. while concepts don't need to be based on telling an actual story.
@psenough: Yeah, you're right.
mever submit one thay are ignore submissiom =)

Sure, but it helps the jury understand by example what you think your category should be about.

Yes. After the proposal deadline is over all jurors will decide on the final list of categories and we'll form juries for each of the categories. Then we'll open up demo submissions to help jurors find prods matching their category.

That will ultimately be for the jurors to decide based on the category description, but your little discussion here helps clear up the difference, so thanks for asking!
My pet peeve that I stated earlier but what was brushed aside: if you name an event to honor someone's memory, would it kill you to write an eulogy on the site? Or some kind of info page telling who this person was and what he did?
I mean, if someone named an event after madonna or something, there sure would be a page describing everything she had done, without assuming that everybody knows who the heck she was.

This was deliberately done like it is now to honour the request of his family and friends. We can add some more info, sure.
»WHERE DID ALL THE COLORS GO?«
Great suggestion! :)
Potential winner: Still – Through the Cracks?!

what about a belly competition ? :D
Nice to see a category proposed for 'Best Demoscene Magazine'. I do hope the 25th anniversary release of the Atari diskmag, Maggie, can be included within this category, alongside other diskmag releases on other platforms during 2016 :)
how about: BEST UNDERVIEWED PRODS
Wouldn't that be somewhat similar to a "BEST OF THE WORST" category? ;-)

Have a look at the footer while you're at it too :)
Best demo you can buy. BITS wins again.

Now you're picking nits =P You mean will vs. has been, right? Will fix as soon as I figure out how to change the footer in the CMS ;)
We definitely need a "Best Remake/Demake"-Category this time...quite some of those were released!
Also "Ziphorse" may get an Award this way without us having to have a "Best use of Horses in a Prod"-Category! ;)
While i think "Chiphead" should win! ;)
