CDCs for groups?
category: general [glöplog]
How about giving users an ability to mark love not only to demos but groups too?
Or thumbs ? :D
More seriously nice idea.
I always found hard for a newcomer/outside person to know a bit the interesting or popular groups.
They know Farbrausch and that's all.

Unlike demos, groups change over time; it is entirely possible to like the output of a group for a certain area, and then dislike their further output years later.
As for parties, we do have a site called "demoparty.net" which sounds more suitable for that purpose.

I second this motion. I only have eyes for EagleSoft http://csdb.dk/group/?id=696
In order to get some traction I suggest the original author submit an issue on Pouet's github repo also

It would be probably better if you could give thumbups/cdcs to users, and then see the combined result for groups, which would be derived from credits since we don't have group affiliation here on pouet (yet?). But that also comes with a few problems of its own, mainly due to all the missing credit attributions and possibly "misrepresentation" in the case of fake/funprods or cooperations.
Groups change overtime but some constants remain ; ) Otherwise they change names along the way. Such CDC could always be replaced like it is with prod CDCs.
Don't we have enough name-voting already?
Yeah i dont like handing out thumbs or cdcs directly to people (or a group of them) too much either. Of course many of you like and/or respect each other and want to express it but I dont think social factors should be measured in such digital and sterile ways. Also this would probably support the "circle-jerking" even more...

soooo much +1
Doing this in a Pouet-conformant way should be simple. Organize a "name-voting demo" compo category, where each entry is an executable that only prints the author's name and exits. (1) Entry on a demoparty? Check. (2) Executable? Check.
Klout scores for the demoscene... just what we need.
Seriously, if there's one thing that the scene is Actually Pretty Good at, it's giving social recognition to the people who create stuff and do the work, not rewarding them for their ability to bullshit and self-promote to win popularity contests. Let's keep it that way.

what kusma said
Pouet is about Productions.
If you want to express your love to a Group or individual Scener, go to Facebook and put some LIKE !

FB even has more options than just LIKE by now...one of them is the HEART ♥ , so even the same as the CDC-icon !
Hardy is right on the money when it comes to lovin', as usual!
But he forgot to tell what you should do if you want to express your dislike of another group, even though he is really damn good at slinging a bunch of insults in the comment section himself :P

havoc: I don´t know what you are talking about?
The only Group i don´t like is one that doesn´t really exist, it´s a fakeGroup...and i don´t remember having put any hate-comments there...i even upthumbed most of Baudsurfers prods!
This Thread is about CDCs not about AntiCDCs.

thats some inconsistent bullshit in this thread. prods are like songs and groups are like bands. there are outstanding songs and there are outstanding bands which consistently release high quality songs always containing an element that defines them. most mfx demos do have something in common dont they? most asd demos too and theyre consistently outstanding right? you make an avatar and put some cdcs on prods to show off what you (are) like but you dont want to name a group? instead of telling that you like this, this and this song by that band you can simply say that you like that band no?
cdcs for individuals would be idiotic, but cdcs for groups shall rather decrease name-voting - people would show off and unload their love on a cdc and hopefully decrease the urge to pollute on votes :)
i dont use facebook

Vote-pollution? I don´t see that...i rather have the feeling it´s always the same ~100 people that vote at all...the rest only votes once a year on the best prod they´ve seen the whole year.
I guess you meant comment-pollution.
If you don´t use FB, check if there´s a Website of your Group and leave a "♥" in their Guestbook.
Also i don´t see what would be wrong to simply put sth like "I really ♥ (all of you people in) Group XYZ !!!" next to a prod-comment! Nothing wrong with that and no need for some extra-groupCDC.

Ah, i get it now!
An Extra-Comment means you put a PIG, which gets counted in to the overall score of the prod...yes, right! I still think PIGs should be completely neutral, not counting into the score at all.

Destroyed many scores of my own prods by commenting on comments myself, putting pigs all over the comments this way. But i don´t care too much about scores anyway...the comments themselves are what counts!
What I wrote above was a contrargument to what others were saying about name voting. I don't fully understand their concerns myself.
Perhaps there would be a problem with CDCs showing up next to groups' name? Putting Razor 1911 on the top? Such concerns are understandable... Is there a way to see how many CDCs prods of a given group have in total?
What I'm really suggesting is to have a possibility to put in the profile a list of fav groups. If for some reasons setting them by hand would be undesirable, then maybe it could be automatic, based on number of comments or thumbs up of the user? Something like "followers" or "groupies".

That actually used to exist with Pouët 0.9 but never got ported to 2.0 for some reason.
oh yeah I remember that haha
