anyone had any luck running vesa demos in dosbox? univbe fails :)

I think that at present (release 0.63) dosbox has vesa support only for some 256 color modes - see the news.txt file. You are not the only one waiting for vesa support, by the way 8-))

i think a good testers are zden's demos which check for available graphical modes : )

erhm, so does my demos/intros and a lot of others - and all of them report that they have go for 8bit or 14bit faked mode.

afaik VDMSound has some very very basic VESA support, no clue how good it is. at least there's a checkbox for VESA when you make the vdmsound shortcut thingy.

this vdmsound, how does it work? i have only been able to produce blackscreens so far (does it even emulate GUS?)

I don't know dosbox but what I'm sure is that Ati Radeon 9600 Pro support natively all old vesa modes so get one and all your old demos will run. Stop loosing your time with configuration : use plain dos with a fat32 formated hard drive containing all demos, a real old SB PCI and a config.sys with all convenient drivers, and why not a PCI gfx card like a matrox millenium and everything will run. Trying to launch everything from windows XP is a loss of time, believe me, I've tried hard.

EP answer to dipswitch :

1/ for narrow band internet access : for 56Kb modems and less
2/ for DSL / Cable / Broadband access

Please note they are different versions regarding GFX : low-speed is lower quality, but faster to download for 56 Kb modems.
